00:00So, Ros, we are seeing a tit-for-tat, depending on where you look, it's either China's trying to escalate or de-escalate.
00:07And this FT interview really did have a lot of poking on the part of Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.
00:13In your opinion, does this get ratcheted back?
00:18Well, it's interesting because we are seeing a lot of posturing going on.
00:21So, China and the US trying to get potentially in the strongest position going into this possible conversation between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump later this month in Asia.
00:32But it's quite risky business that they're doing because they are coming at each other in a variety of ways, not just rare earths, critical minerals, the tech space, but also, as we've seen now, shipping just reflecting the extent of the tensions across the trade and economic relationship between these countries.
00:49And some of it may just be largely posturing, it may be trying to get in that position ahead of the meeting.
00:56But again, you know, up until that meeting, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump both need to decide for themselves, does this meeting still make sense?
01:04Am I going to go into that meeting and come out of it with what I need?
01:08Or is there risk here in even having that conversation?
01:11And so it's really about not getting to the point where this relationship gets so tense they decide not to meet at all.
01:18I mean, you heard the comments from Scott Besant to the Financial Times saying that China is apparently hurting the global economy.
01:25So the message is that China is causing itself reputational damage, not just with the US and others.
01:31But in the same token, he's saying the lines of communication between the US and China are still open.
01:37He, in fact, plans to meet with the Chinese vice president, Per Lefeng, one more time, possibly this month, before Xi and Trump sit down.
01:45So on the one hand, there's the tough talk that's going on and these actions that are happening.
01:49On the other, there's a sense that conversations are still going on, at least behind the scenes.
01:54In fact, it seems他是 going on.
01:59To see if he's rows, going on and it may not have to come down to any other thing.
02:02Right?
02:03From the audience's comments, he's asked why he made a statement, he said that China will take it out and it may be a very long part, to speak in front of the world.
02:11On the other hand, we have begun as theIDs as possible.
