00:00I bring in the challengers. Seth books the matches. Seth is the one who decides who is champion here.
00:08For now, this is the champ, Colin Coward, who's held the title for a good couple, two, three weeks now with this take on Kevin Durant.
00:15At this point, Kevin Durant's not a culture guy. He's not a two-way player, actually. He's not a grind for 82 game guy.
00:22He is a mercenary. In fact, his Twitter handle is Easy Money Sniper, and that's only because I get paid to shoot a lot was too long.
00:33That's what he is. And in the final, I mean, he had more fouls than buckets made in the second half in OT. He just didn't do much.
00:42Okay, so that was the day after the season opener.
00:45Yeah, the big thing I really disliked about that was him saying that Easy Money Sniper was some kind of a statement about his mercenary qualities or whatever, as opposed to just simply, hey, he's a really good shooter, and it's Easy Money for him.
01:00It's Easy Money.
01:00And also, I'm also, I was kind of surprised by his saying he's not a...
01:07It passed me the last couple weeks, but Kevin Durant puts in the effort defensively.
01:11And no, and he's been, like, his defensive rating has stayed pretty consistent over the last few seasons.
01:17It's not, so he's saying he's not a two-way player anymore.
01:20Coward is very much just trying to paint a picture.
01:23It's a narrative.
01:23He's trying, yeah, he's trying to create a narrative about Kevin Durant that simply isn't there.
01:27All right, so that's what made him the champ.
01:29So he's the champ right now, Colin Coward.
01:31Can he get taken down?
01:33Now, is this a take-a-mania candidate, or is this really just me wanting to play this bit of audio again?
01:38We'll see.
01:38I've thought about this.
01:39I don't know how much of this is a bad take.
01:41There are some bad take elements, but I don't know if it quite fits the genre.
01:44Yeah, we'll find out.
01:46The only way to find out is to play it.
01:47This was Bill O'Brien at his Monday press conference earlier this week, going off on a reporter named Mike Galtieri,
01:54who asked him, what would you tell the fans?
01:59What's your message to the fans of Boston College?
02:01One and eight right now, by the way, Boston College.
02:03Coach, I'm wondering, do you have a message to the fans?
02:06Obviously losing to Notre Dame Catholic school rival, one and eight now in the season of B.C.
02:11I've heard from a lot of fans.
02:12I'm just really down.
02:13Yeah, I'm really glad.
02:14You know, I'm glad you're down.
02:16I'm not down.
02:17Nobody's down.
02:18We're fighting.
02:19We're competing.
02:20You know, it's the second year of this program, Mike.
02:22You always come in here with these down questions.
02:24Like, you show up, like, once a month or something like that.
02:27You come in here with these down questions.
02:28I'm not down.
02:29I don't know what year you graduated from B.C., but this is a program that we're building.
02:33Nobody here is down.
02:34We're positive.
02:35We're going to show up and play our asses off against SMU.
02:38You can go out there in your dark, clouded world or whatever it is and do what you want to do.
02:43We're not down.
02:44The sun is up, and we're fighting.
02:48What's up, Trevor?
02:48What's up, Trevor is underrated.
02:53I mean, it's technically a bad take in this, that he is angry and shouting about how happy
02:57and sunny it is in his world.
02:59That's why I put it in.
02:59Yeah, I know.
03:00But it's not a bad take.
03:04And frankly, that Galtieri guy sounds kind of annoying.
03:07Okay.
03:08What's the message to the fans is always an annoying question.
03:11That's a trick.
03:11I mean, it never gets asked when the team's going well.
03:14Yeah.
03:14It's always, it's always asked when the team's doing poor.
03:18D'Amico's been asked about it a couple times this year.
03:20It always feels, it always feels like you're trying to get out of asking a question yourself,
03:26like by doing it in the third person.
03:28Yeah.
03:28Like, oh, hey, look, I'm not, I'm not living in a cloudy world, but some of these fans are.
03:33What would you say to them?
03:34I, um, I, I've been following a little bit of the BC stuff just because I'm, A, I'm interested
03:39in O'Brien and B, I'm not a huge BC fan.
03:41So I like to follow the teams that I don't like sometimes, especially when they're doing
03:45poorly.
03:46And I guess the big thing with BC and why the message to the fans question was viewed in
03:52the BC constituency as a fair question is their attendance has been very good this year.
03:56Oh, they've sold out a couple.
03:58I mean, obviously they sold out the Notre Dame game.
04:00That would happen if both teams were 0 and 8.
04:03Yeah.
04:03Um, but they've sold out a couple of games.
04:05Interesting.
04:06They've had, they've had big crowds for a couple of other games.
04:08Um, the fans have been supporting the product apparently in Boston.
04:12If anything, then I would say that the, most of the fans there are probably like, and it
04:18is a year or two.
04:18They're probably that they probably hear that of, out of O'Brien and they love it the same
04:24way.
04:24Um, you know, when O'Brien, O'Brien, O'Brien in the tunnel there, it kind of changed.
04:31I think people were kind of critical of it because the Texans lost that game.
04:34But then after they won the next week, everybody kind of changed and they're like, yeah, O'Brien's
04:38a fighter when he's, he's one of theirs too.
04:40He ain't going to take no crap from nobody.
04:42He's, you know, he's, he's old Billy, Billy from Dorchester or whatever.
04:45So, uh, but no, this is not a win.
04:47Can he do it?
04:48Call her.
04:49All right.
04:50Oh, and I can't get out.
04:51We've got a couple more here.
04:52Um, Mad Dog Russo.
04:54We played this one earlier this week.
04:56Angry, angry, angry about Joe Davis, the play-by-play guy for Fox in the world series, who also
05:03happens to be the Dodgers local play-by-play guy.
05:07Just two days after the end of the world series, Joe Davis was hosting the Dodgers parade.
05:14He was the MC of their parade.
05:16Mad Dog did not like this.
05:17When you're a national broadcaster and you're the voice of the sport on a big stage, when
05:22you did a million playoff games, and then they, uh, in one of the crippling losses that
05:26a franchise is going to have in the history of the sport, that's as bad a loss as you're
05:31ever going to have.
05:31And I got Joe, basically, the body's not even cold yet.
05:34And I got Joe at Dodger Stadium doing the freaking Dodger parade.
05:38Oh, my God.
05:40That's bad.
05:40I'm sorry.
05:41I don't care what you say.
05:42You could say I'm a, uh, you know, uh, screaming and yelling about nothing.
05:46That, that would piss me off if I'm a, if I'm a Blue Jay fan.
05:50I got Joe Davis shaking everybody's hand.
05:52Give me a freaking, yo mama, shaking freaking, uh, Ohtani's hand.
05:57And he's freaking wacky.
05:58He's getting rings.
05:59He's the announcer for the World Series.
06:02You think Kirk Gowdy was getting any of this nonsense?
06:07You think Gattie put the Cardinals?
06:09Oh, my God.
06:11And he's got the trophy right there.
06:13God, if you're a Blue Jay fan, you're vomiting right now.
06:16That is bad.
06:16I don't care what you say.
06:18That is, you could say I'm being hard.
06:20That's ridiculous, Chris.
06:21What's the big deal?
06:22He does that, games.
06:23Nonsense.
06:25I love that he finally landed on a Japanese name.
06:28He could pronounce it.
06:30Yamama, Myeba, Honda, Ohtani.
06:34Ohtani.
06:34Ohtani.
06:35Yeah.
06:36Yeah, it's a rough one for Matt.
06:38Him and Francesa both had moments last week where they were trying to, who were they?
06:41Oh, it was Jackson Smith and Jigba.
06:43I actually pulled that.
06:45Ben, did I pull that audio of the two of them trying to pronounce Jackson Smith and Jigba?
06:48You could see them both.
06:49And with Francesa, you can almost see on his face, like, oh, crap, this seems like one
06:53of those canceled type things.
06:54I thought I pulled that from last week.
06:57It was hilarious.
06:58My favorite, my favorite, before we get your decision on this, my favorite Mad Dog maneuver
07:03is bringing up, bringing up personalities or entities from like 60 years ago.
07:08Curly Culp?
07:10Remember?
07:10Does he even know who Curly Culp is?
07:12Remember when he was all mad about Taylor Swift all of a sudden being a Chiefs fan?
07:15Does he even know who Len Dawson is?
07:17And Curly Culp.
07:18And Curly Culp, yeah, it was Curly Culp, too.
07:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:22So, okay, so what's your decision, Judge Payne?
07:25I was like, it's a, it's, I have to partially agree with him because it is annoying, especially
07:30with Joe Davis there or whatever his name is.
07:34Or is it Davis Motto?
07:36It is annoying.
07:40There's like, this isn't like an official who is a fan of the team or anything.
07:44You know, being an umpire at the game.
07:48I don't, I don't give a damn about, even though I hate the Dodgers, I also don't think they
07:54should operate in such a way as like, oh no, this will be painful for Blue Jays fans to
07:58hear Joe Davis do the introductory parade.
08:01So no, he does not win.
08:02He does not win.
08:03Cowherd's still the champ.
08:04All right, we got two more.
08:05We got two more.
08:07This is Harold Reynolds yesterday.
08:08They were, he and I think it was, might have been Matt Viscursion.
08:12I can't remember.
08:13Somebody on MLB Network, but Harold Reynolds was one of them.
08:15And they were going through where they thought the big free agents were going to go.
08:19And this was Harold Reynolds.
08:21I just think, this is an opinion, but I just think this is a total read the room thing that
08:26he just whiffs on.
08:27Yeah.
08:27We'll see if it's good enough to be Cowherd in the eyes of Seth, but here you go.
08:30It's quick.
08:30Where for Kyle Tucker in 2026, Harold, and it's a different conversation than it would
08:35have been, say, in July or June.
08:38I believe the price tag has dropped significantly.
08:42Okay.
08:43I think he goes back to Houston.
08:45Ooh.
08:47I just think they know him.
08:49And they need left-handed hitting.
08:50And they died without him.
08:52That's a good one.
08:53I think he goes back home.
08:54I think he's off base on so much stuff.
08:56There was 19 seconds of audio.
08:58He whiffed on like seven things.
09:00You know, and this is the trouble, though.
09:01It's a bad take, but it's not a good enough bad take.
09:06A good bad take is a really bad take.
09:09We need an entertaining champion.
09:10A really energetic delivery.
09:12Yes.
09:12An entertaining delivery.
09:13Yeah.
09:13That's what it has to be.
09:14It has to be entertaining.
09:16And that's just not enough.
09:17I can't see myself wanting to listen to that one over and over and over again.
09:21Yeah.
09:21The, okay, the price tag having calmed down, it would have to come down so much.
09:25Dude, a number of years would have to come down.
09:30Like, everything I've seen from experts since the end of the season, they all think Tucker
09:34is getting a 10-year deal from someone.
09:36A valid point about the left-handed hitters, but especially it was when Jordan was out.
09:41But remember, it was, I mean, we never saw a left-handed pitcher.
09:44I didn't know if they even existed.
09:46But that's not a contract that you signed.
09:48Oh, no, no, no.
09:48That's not why you spend $300 million to get a left-handed hitter.
09:51And that wasn't Harold saying that.
09:54Yeah, that was the other guy.
09:54So, no, he does not win.
09:55Does not win.
09:56He did it!
09:56Call her!
09:58Oh, and a kick out!
09:59That might have gone into the bucket of he wasn't 100% prepared for that second.
10:04Right, right.
10:04Which, I've been there, done that.
10:06I'm not, you're kind of just throwing it out there.
10:08Oh, crap.
10:09I don't have an answer for this one.
10:10Okay.
10:11This one is almost a full week old.
10:13This one happened, like, an hour after we went off the air last Friday.
10:18This is Stephen A. Smith.
10:19This is after the Miami Dolphins fired general manager Chris Greer.
10:23So, it seemed like everybody was on the hot seat from Mike McDaniel to Tua to Greer.
10:29Yeah.
10:29Right?
10:30Yeah.
10:30And so, the Dolphins, a few days before the trade deadline, make the move to fire Chris Greer,
10:36who'd been the GM for 10 years and been in the organization for 25 years.
10:40Yeah.
10:41Here was Stephen A. Smith's take.
10:42This is BS.
10:44That's the first fire?
10:46Really?
10:47That's what we're doing?
10:49Well, what we've seen?
10:50What we just finished talking about.
10:51You know, there are things that need to be modified, et cetera, et cetera.
10:53But the personnel that they have on their squad, although we're not happy with it,
11:00we didn't walk into this season thinking they were going to be trash.
11:03We looked at their roster and we said they got some potential.
11:07We'll see what happens.
11:08Well, it was about Mike McDaniel.
11:10And the brother get fired first.
11:12All I know is this.
11:13I better hear Mike McDaniel's name today.
11:15Oh, my God.
11:16I better hear Mike McDaniel's name today.
11:18It better not be just Chris Greer.
11:21Okay.
11:22So, Mike McDaniel, who is black.
11:25There's that.
11:27And it's Stephen A.'s constant race baiting.
11:30Do you think he knows Mike McDaniel?
11:32His father is African-American?
11:33No, he doesn't know.
11:34But also just like, this is what I do.
11:37Because I try to check my blind spots and my, you know, whatever biases I have and everything.
11:41But I would say similar to the David Cully situation here where Stephen A. Smith did similar things.
11:46You go and you look at, I'll say like, okay, our black listeners and black fans of the Texans,
11:51black fans of the Dolphins, like almost unanimously saying like, no, this ain't it, man.
11:57No, like, he's been in the organization for 25 years.
12:00He's been the GM for the last decade or 10 years.
12:0310 years, yeah.
12:04And they haven't won a playoff game in that last 25 years.
12:06No.
12:06Like, of all the hills to try to, you know, like, let's be a little, like, can we use some discretion when we try to make this a race-based thing?
12:14Yes.
12:15It's just annoying.
12:16It really, because it diminishes, it diminishes anything that Stephen A. says about legitimate issues when it comes to that.
12:21For sure.
12:22And Mike McDaniel is black.
12:24Yes.
12:28Yep.
12:28It's a really bad take.
12:30But I just don't feel like, I don't feel like having this conversation every week.
12:33I don't blame you.
12:34I don't blame you.
12:35I felt like it was take a mania movie.
12:37That is a perfectly good reason to keep the strap on Colin Cowherd.
12:42All right?
12:43So Colin Cowherd remains the champ.
12:47I was going to think we have time in this segment.
12:49Ben, how long is the, uh, I want to see what you thought of my takes.
12:52Well, the biggest, well, let's play that in the next segment.
12:55Five minutes?
12:56Yeah.
12:56We'll do it in the, you want to do it in the next segment?
12:57No, no, we'll do it next segment.
12:58The, um, the biggest thing about the David Cully one was that, uh, you know, like Stephen
13:03A took up, uh, viciously defended David Cully.
13:07But then I searched and scoured and looked for times that Stephen A Smith recommended
13:11that David Cully get another NFL coaching job.
13:13What'd you learn?
13:13I didn't find anything yet.
13:15Maybe somebody else can find it.
13:16Um, but Stephen A Smith, who was, uh, aghast that the Texans would fire David Cully and
13:20yet did not have him on his, uh, you know, he did, did not say the giants need to fire
13:25David or they need to hire David Cully today.
13:28Did not campaign fire Dave all hire David Cully.
13:31It's been, it's been five years, not a single mention.
13:34No, no, just sitting on a big pile of cash, man.
13:37Yeah.
