00:00You know what I'm excited to see, and this team isn't a top 25 team preseason, and that's Georgetown.
00:06I don't think people give Ed Cooley the respect that I think he deserves as a national level coach.
00:14Now listen, I am not happy with how Ed Cooley left Providence to go to Georgetown, especially going in league.
00:22But you understand how good of a coach he was at Providence, and he's slowly starting to see things turn his way at Georgetown.
00:35And what I liked is I saw them play, and I don't know if people noticed, they played and beat Kentucky in the exhibition game by double digits.
00:45They were so impressive.
00:46And what can you say about K.J. Lewis, the transfer from Arizona, who was basically kind of got going later in the year,
00:59and they played really well, particularly in the Big 12 tournament, had 14 points in the opening of that game versus Morgan State.
01:07But when you look at Malik Mack, when you look at guards in the Ivy League last year,
01:13we always talked about Xavier and Lee, Xavier and Lee, Xavier and Lee from Princeton going to Florida.
01:18Well, not everybody talked about Malik Mack, who I thought was the second best point guard in the Ivy League,
01:25now going from Harvard to Georgetown.
01:28So when you look at Ed Cooley, can Ed Cooley make Georgetown a top five team in the Big East?
01:36Now you think about the fact that you have St. John's and UConn and Creighton,
01:41all the teams we talked about last episode, but can they be in that four to six spot with them and Marquette, right?
01:50Can they, Villanova, can they be in that four through six mix?
01:54If they're a four or five team in the Big East, Ed Cooley's taking that team to the NCAA tournament.
02:00Let's talk about two more prize freshmen that we've not talked about in the first two episodes of college basketball today.
02:08Let's start with Darren Peterson, the dynamic scoring guard for Kansas, who put up 21 points and, ready folks, 22 minutes.
02:207-11 from the floor, 3-7 from three, four rebounds, three assists.
02:24Folks, Darren Peterson played three minutes of the second half.
02:29Three.
02:30This kid is a bucket, and he is one of the best pure scorers at the guard position that I've seen as a freshman in a long time.
02:42This kid is going to be very special for a Kansas team that, in the Big 12, with Houston, with Arizona, with Iowa State,
02:54teams that are excellent defensively, you have to have yourself an offensive threat that could create baskets.
03:06Whether it's running your offense through him, or it's late shot clock.
03:13Hey, we're putting the ball in your hands and let you go and score.
03:19It's going to be interesting to watch Kansas, because I feel like this is a Kansas team, like, for the first time in a while, like, we're not really talking about Kansas.
03:32And that's an odd thing for who I think is one of the best coaches in the country, and Bill Self.
