00:00The NCAA tournament, does it produce the best team in the country
00:04or the hottest team in the country?
00:12Wow.
00:14I think it's the best team in the country.
00:17I think you can get on a run, but because the chalk is now always rising,
00:25I think when you get into those situations and you say,
00:29well, is Michigan better than Arizona?
00:31Well, we're going to find out.
00:33We will definitely find out.
00:35And if we don't, that means that they weren't the best,
00:40that their Achilles heel, whether it's ball handling
00:44or their three-point shooting or whatever.
00:48But I do believe – now, that doesn't mean that there's one good team
00:55in the country.
00:56That means that there can be a series of good teams.
01:00I have now taken Dan to this opinion of the tournament.
01:05128 golfers get invited – 128 golfers get invited to the Masters,
01:11and they play the Masters.
01:13They play Thursday and Friday.
01:16And then 64 golfers are left on Saturday.
01:19They compete.
01:22They compete for the Masters.
01:24So now, all that got to the round of 32 are not created equal.
01:31But when you get to 16 and you can say, well,
01:35what was their track record for this year?
01:38Those teams are all capable of being named the national champ.
01:43Not all 16.
01:44Pick a number.
01:45Can seven of them win a national championship and say we've had a national
01:50championship year the whole year?
01:52I believe that, yes.
01:55Coach, what's the tougher weekend?
01:57The first weekend in the tournament or the second weekend?
02:02To me, the first weekend is tougher.
02:06Because we've talked about this.
02:08You're playing two games against teams unknown.
02:12You have the whirlwind.
02:13Think about this.
02:14We have some teams selected on Sunday.
02:17They travel on Tuesday to play Thursday.
02:21They're away the whole time.
02:23Once you get into the second weekend, you can catch your breath.
02:27Everybody will be back on their campus sometime Saturday, sometime Sunday.
02:33You'll have a bit of a breather to get local media done, to get caught up
02:40academically, to get their family situated, and then you're on.
02:45And that funneling of attention.
02:51I do believe there are causes for players to become basketball drunk Thursday,
02:59Friday.
03:00You're sitting around a hotel, and all you're doing is watching ball.
03:03And then you go out on the floor, and you're a little bit groggy.
03:06Yeah, because all you've done is just you've laid in that hotel bed and watched
03:11game after game after game, and you get caught up in the emotion.
03:15Like, everybody in the country was like, that kid from Vanderbilt, the ball was in.
03:20How did that ball pop out?
03:22And now you have to go play your own game later that day?
03:25You really have to be careful.
03:27When you get down into the Sweet 16, and you know that there's four games on one night,
03:35there's going to be four games, I think you can get your breath a little bit easier
03:39in the second weekend.
03:40And, Dan, if you're playing the second weekend, you've got a damn good team.
03:44So there's less to be anxious about.
