00:00No, it's not going to be a quick fix, sadly. I don't have a magic wand to fix what we inherited after 14 years of austerity and public services, failure to build any prison places, and this is what happens, this is the result.
00:11But what we can do is put in place immediate measures, which we are doing, and then longer term, we're building more prisons, the biggest prison building program since the Victorian era, investing in our probation and our staff, looking at what more we can do on sentencing, so that we never ever get into this position again, because quite frankly, I'm furious.
00:27I know your viewers are furious. Any release in error is unacceptable, and they deserve better. We deserve a criminal justice system that's fit for purpose.
