00:00John great to speak to you here at Lennox down on the training ground it's
00:11been quite an innate days time to kind of reflect how's it how's it been for
00:16you since Martin came in you've been a pivotal part of his backroom team how's
00:19it been yeah it's been busy yeah the first part of that week was really
00:26difficult I think I've spoke to the group and probably all the staff look it's
00:31really difficult on a personal level we lose some really good staff and then
00:36really quickly have to prepare for a game on the Wednesday within that obviously
00:41getting clarity on on what Martin wants the team to look like trying to build a
00:47staff yeah it was really busy at the start and it didn't really stop until
00:52probably yesterday yesterday could sort of take a bit of time to reflect on the
00:56week in general probably the game against Rangers and now it starts again yeah
01:03yeah it never stops at a football club we've heard Callum McGregor talk about
01:07how difficult it's been behind the scenes as you mentioned it yourself at your
01:11first news conference how much credit would you give Callum and the other
01:14senior players for the way they've pulled everyone together to not only make sure
01:18the structure doesn't fall apart but to be able to put in improved performances so
01:22soon after the changeover yeah the the senior players have they've been pivotal
01:27really have if you sort of separate sort of on the pitch performances too in terms
01:34of culturally the senior players off the pitch have been amazing for the manager
01:40myself the staff really good so Callum Kieran James Alistair Johnson Cameron Vickers made a big
01:49big effort to come to the the game on Sunday he's only a few days post surgery
01:54guys like Casper as well Casper Casper on the pitch has been it's just made massive
01:58massive impact yeah the senior ones have really sort of driven inside the dressing
02:03room that must have been difficult for them that week and they've just thrown
02:07themselves into the two games and yeah it's funny you mention those names
02:10certainly the Rangers game the most recent game every single player that you've
02:14mentioned there is having played their role behind the scenes also had an
02:18outstanding game on the pitch yeah it's probably a in time in terms of the two
02:23injured lads Cameron and Alistair like they they really came to me Alistair and
02:28Cameron wanted to come you want to come really quickly then if you then if you
02:33actually talk about on on pitch James Forreston the two games it's produced just
02:39brilliant one we won moments Kieran coming back into the Rangers game and again an
02:44assist and just some brilliant moments Calum Casper have been sort of or every
02:48every second yeah Casper a brilliant save against Falkirk at 1-0 and then had
02:55another couple of massive moments and then look Calum in terms of tactically
03:00there's not too many more intelligent players I've worked with he's been really
03:06good really understands what we're looking for this we have made slight
03:10changes in terms of anything tactical I mean really slight probably the biggest
03:15one is the mentality to try and hurt teams in behind run more from midfield and
03:20the wide players but again these are things that sometimes you just have to
03:24remind them of I've watched this team for four or five years and when they're at
03:28their best they're a hell of a team yeah when Martin came in he was the first one to
03:33say listen he he'll take time to get to know these boys even though he didn't have
03:37much time but I'm thinking particularly of you know youngster Calum Osmond still
03:41just a teenager but breaks into the team and instantly contributes is that a
03:45benefit of I'm thinking of yourself in your main role as player pathway manager
03:49Steve McManus in the coaching setup you're two guys who have watched him for
03:53a number of weeks and months now yeah I think look all look even some of the the
03:58physical staff like the the way that he's trained over the last three or four
04:01months how hard he's trained I think he spoke about it post in post-match yeah
04:06he's definitely he was ready for this opportunity I think when we're
04:10discussing the bench and between him and Shin and Shin's definitely got
04:14attributes as well that can help this team but Steven's worked with Calum
04:19we've all seen him now train and he's now getting to a point where you can't
04:23really hold him back and and then it's how the boy takes the actual
04:27opportunity I knew I knew with Martin coming to Tuesday night when I met him
04:33for dinner to go through the squad and the and the players I knew he would love
04:36Calum he's a exact type striker that that the manager would like and yeah you
04:43can sense that sort of bond between the manager and Calum already that he feels
04:47his trust you made an impact at Celtic as a teenager when you broke through I
04:51think your debut was against Rangers if I'm right in saying I have a while ago yeah yeah
04:55I mean sometimes as a young player at this club it can just produce pivotal
05:00moments Calum certainly got that at Hamden at the weekend is that even though he
05:06now has to keep his his his feet on the ground is that the kind of game that can
05:10really completely change a player's career it can yeah look I think the impact he
05:13had against Falkirk was like really positive I think to actually then go and
05:17produce a massive moment like that in a semi-final against your biggest rivals is
05:22yeah it's um yeah not many people are able to do that best part of that goal was
05:28actually took a really bad touch about 10 seconds before he scores and he had the
05:32aggression to go and win it back and it was probably that throughout the team that
05:36I really enjoyed that we were going to make mistakes we try passes we're going to
05:40lose but the aggression to win it back sort of and sort of that one moment of
05:46Calum to do that was one of my favorite from the game on Sunday to to make a
05:51mistake and just show aggression to win it back and then KT's cross it's crossing
05:55was brilliant in the game and Calum's movement but it's um yeah I think the the
05:59big one is like you can't ever not let these guys enjoy that moment Calum and the
06:02rest of the team but this club it doesn't stop the next game is now Thursday it's a
06:07massive game and and it'll be a massive game on Sunday as well for you yourself in
06:12this short period where yourself and and Martin are are here and of course you've
06:17got your your main role at the club I'm thinking you know you've been a manager
06:20before you've been an assistant under Roberto Martin in some huge international
06:24games the last couple of experiences you've had though and and the dugout
06:29itself have they been a different different type of anxious nerves excitement has
06:33it has it been even up a notch from those experiences um yeah there's some big
06:39games uh in terms of Belgium in terms of like worldwide so in the Euros I don't
06:46get too I don't get too nervous like even the Rangers game there on Sunday I was
06:50fine I think it felt different Falkirk I think just because of the 48 hours
06:57leading into it it did feel different and it was it was a club I supported and came
07:04through it so it was a different feeling I think when I when I got that call
07:09really late Monday and then to learn obviously with Martin coming in as the
07:13manager it was just so unique just a to go from obviously a feeling of not quite
07:21sure what's happening to then working under Martin basically trying to give him
07:28everything he needs to be the guy that he is yeah it's a massive honor like this
07:33is a guy that literally took me from cleaning boots picking up kit to within 48 hours making
07:42my debut and changing the course of my career so um yeah it was a special sort of special
07:48night Wednesday to to be stood next to him so uh yeah I'll forever be grateful for for
07:54what Martin's done for me and anything I can do to help him I'll I'll try my best yeah yeah I'm sure it's been a
07:59a busy week for you have you had much sleep uh not the first couple of days after that fine
08:05like it's uh I'm up leading into that Falkirk game just the chaos such a mix of feelings
08:10you're dealing with um like I was I was really close with the last staff um on a personal level
08:17Brendan gave me my first coaching job John has been my best friend since age of 14 so that you're
08:24dealing with things like that and then you're then going straight into a game so I didn't sleep too much
08:29the first couple of days um and then after that fine um we've got really good players like really
08:35good um if as long as they get clarity from me I really trust the talent these guys have so um
08:43just need to try and keep going now yeah absolutely and you know what it's like with the expectation of
08:48football supporters now that we've beaten Falkirk and beaten Rangers in a cup semi-final they now think
08:53that perhaps everything's rosier now everything's completely turned around and we've got a game
08:58against Mitchell and that supporters are thinking oh we'll go ahead and win that one how tough will
09:01this game be because they're sitting top of the league yeah no uh yeah really tough yeah I think
09:06they've got nine and nine I think uh I think the manager's already seen them he saw them live
09:10against Forrest and I was really impressed that they're a super strong team uh yeah we'll prepare
09:17the team same as what we did the same mentality for Falkirk and Rangers and um yeah we will try our best
09:23to win the game if we show the same attitude and mentality to really like fight run harder than
09:29opposition you give ourselves uh we will give ourselves a chance in any game and respect the
09:36opponent but yeah we'll try our best to win it final question is a simple one are you enjoying it
09:40um I don't know if I've had time to enjoy it there's been moments like Falkirk uh
09:45yeah when you're standing there uh with Martin the rest of the staff
09:49in such a chaotic moment it's been it has been enjoyable look we've we've got Stephen being
09:56brought up from the B team Mark Mark Fotheringham's come at the drop of a hat got called at half
10:0211 at night on a Monday and was here at six o'clock the next morning Gav the staff I've enjoyed
10:08working with the staff we have got an unbelievable football structure here that has made myself and
10:14Martin and Mark's job a lot easier so uh yeah enjoy I enjoy the winning yeah yeah we all enjoyed
10:22the winning good luck on Thursday yeah cheers thank you
