00:00As far as the evidence, I'm just saying the evidence part of it, like what Gretchen
00:03has and Tamra has, I don't know. Those are two people that have a very toxic relationship that
00:09they've had for years and years.
00:13Emily Simpson. Hi. Danny and I are so excited to catch up with you. What an amazing episode
00:25of Wife Swap. It seemed like you had quite the time. Things got a little dirty. The pig
00:30was amazing. It seems like overall this was a great experience, right? You're glad you
00:34did it.
00:35Oh, absolutely. Going into it, it was hard going into it because of the timing. I finished
00:43Housewives and we were in Amsterdam on a girl's trip. Then I got home and I was only home a
00:48couple of days before we started Wife Swap. I would say I was regretting my life. I was
00:54regretting my life choices at that point. I was, I was just tired. So, but I, I am so
01:01glad that I did it and I'm, I'm glad the timing worked. I'd rather have just done it all at
01:06one time. I was already in filming mode, so might as well just keep going.
01:11Also, as people watching y'all currently on the Orange County trip, I feel after that you
01:16probably enjoyed going across the country to get away from all those ladies for a little
01:19bit. Oh yeah, absolutely. I had no problem leaving them behind.
01:26And I do love, cause I'm a Jersey boy. I love that they sent you to New Jersey.
01:29I though would not have thrived as well as you did with all of that farm life. I love that
01:35we got to see OG Emily Simpson back in the Ohio roots. How was kind of, did that shock you
01:41how much you had to get in the literal mud for this? Um, well, you know, honestly, I, I never
01:48thought, well, first when I heard Jersey, I would have never thought farm animals. Right.
01:52So I just thought, I just pictured a lot of, yeah, I don't know, leopard or something. I don't know. I
01:58didn't picture farm animals at all. So, you know, when we pull up outside this big, beautiful home and
02:03then I still didn't realize that there were animals because you can't see any of them there, you know,
02:07in the backyard. And I just remember walking into the house thinking, I hope that they have a dog
02:12cause I love dogs so much. And then when I saw that pig, I nearly passed out. I was like, you
02:16have got to be kidding me. And he's in the house. Like he was just wandering around the kitchen
02:20and then looking into the backyard and seeing the chickens and the horses and the goats and like all
02:25that. I loved it. It just, it made me feel like I was at home again. You know, that's how I grew up
02:29like that. We love that you loved it, but I need to know your thoughts on Callie walking into your
02:35house and low-key dragging it, saying it had no personality and reminded her of Pottery Barn.
02:39That was a bit savage.
02:41So you went housewives.
02:43Um, you know, I mean, I get it. I would agree with that. We've been remodeling my house for
02:48like the past three years. So it doesn't have any personality. I mean, I've basically just
02:52remodeled everything.
02:53First impressions, first impressions of homes are hard. I do love too that we also got to watch
02:58Callie link up with someone that we love and we know you love, Gina. And I feel like Gina kind of
03:04acted as like a good therapist for her. How was watching her scene and with what you learned
03:10from her in that scene reflect what you think about her, uh, life in her house with her marriage?
03:15I think sitting across from Gina is the best person to sit across from because she's so warm
03:19and she is so kind. And I, I think even if you don't know her, you, you start to feel immediately.
03:25So I think that was such a good link up between the two of them. And I know she felt comfortable
03:28with Gina and sharing with her. So, you know, that was great. And then being able to just,
03:33you know, take that and kind of apply it, you know, when she gets home is nice. Gina gave her
03:38good advice, you know, and telling her to, you know, why don't you start your own business and,
03:42you know, be your own person, you know, and Gina's the best person to say that. Look at what she's
03:46been able to accomplish.
03:48No. Yeah. Watch that. I was, I almost, I was like shouting through the TV. I was like, sir,
03:52get off the laptop and start helping out. But I'm glad I feel like you're kind of ignited or you,
03:57because for the first half of the episode, I kind of was like, oh, he's just lazy. And then
04:01when you, after you and him had his date, the date night, you kind of got more to the core of him
04:06being like, you don't feel appreciated. And you don't really know who you are in this house fully.
04:12How was kind of realizing that you weren't able to like open him up that way?
04:17You know, I actually, the date night for me, even though it was like so awkward,
04:20because clearly we're married to other people. So then to like walk into like this romantic
04:25dining room with like, yes, I was like, this is so weird. And then I could tell he was so nervous
04:34too. And then, you know, we had a glass of champagne and I feel like, you know, we kind of
04:38calmed down a little, but then, you know, it was nice because I feel like I really got to
04:44crack that tough, you know, kind of exterior of him that, that, you know, man that doesn't want to
04:50share emotions or feelings or anything, but I feel like he really opened up and I, I understood
04:55where he was coming from, you know, there, I didn't feel like he felt as if there was any
05:01appreciation for his contributions. And I know his contributions aren't putting the kids to bed or,
05:06or making lunches or things like that, but he contributes in other ways. I mean, he's the
05:11breadwinner and this life that she has that she wanted is because of him. And I think he works
05:17really hard to give her that life. And I just felt, I mean, I felt badly for him because I felt
05:23like there wasn't any appreciation for the hard work that he does do to provide such an amazing
05:27life for, you know, his wife and kids. It feels really full circle to be chatting with you, Emily,
05:33on the day of the Orange County finale, because we chatted with you earlier in the season and you
05:37said this finale was so shocking and confusing and like nothing we had ever seen before. And yeah,
05:43I mean, you're right. I would have never thought that it would have been about Gretchen and those
05:47old posts and the nature of those posts. And what I will say is when you and Gina originally learned
05:54of the posts as two people in the LGBTQIA plus community, I was very, I was, it was just really
06:01nice to see how upset you and Gina got. And it seems like you two are on the right side of history
06:06there. What was it like kind of going through that process and figuring out if Gretchen was truly behind
06:11them or not? You know, that was really difficult because I've known Gretchen for like 10 years
06:15and we, we have mutual friends and I had never heard no one. They're never in Orange County is
06:21small. You know that. I mean, everybody knows everybody run into each other at the same events
06:25and stuff. And there had never been any rumbling or, or, or gossip or anything about her. And so it was,
06:34it was hard for me. It made me sad because I thought this is someone that I've known for 10 years
06:38that I've been friends with that I've sat across from at dinners. And I, I don't want to think that
06:44of her cause I've never known her, but if this is true, then that is, it's so repulsive to me and so
06:51vile that like, that isn't someone that I would want to associate with or, or be friends with. And so
06:56it was such a difficult position for us to be in. It was just a lot. It was a lot to, to try to analyze
07:03and decipher and figure out. I see, this is why you're, you are legally brunette because you need
07:08all of the evidence, all of the situation going on. And it seems cause they also, we saw the, um,
07:14trailer for what's to come for part one of the reunion. It seems like Gretchen, it's almost seems
07:18like Gretchen and Tamara on trial against one another with Gretchen saying this was maybe a
07:22setup by Tamara. Yeah. And you know, she has some forensics done, you know, and I, I mean,
07:29someone comes to the reunion and they, they have, you know, a binder of information.
07:34I mean, I don't get to look at that. I'm not reading it. I can't see what it says. I mean,
07:38she has it in her hand and she's like, look at this, you know, and I get it. She's trying to do
07:42everything possible to clear her name and to, you know, figure out what's going on. It's just,
07:48it's, it's hard for me because it's like, I want a smoking gun. I want like clear and convincing
07:53evidence. I want something that's like so black and white that your only takeaway is yes,
07:59or no. And I, I still feel like it's, maybe it was this, maybe it was this. I don't know.
08:05Oh, that's so frustrating. So then how would you describe the current state of your friendship
08:09with Gretchen? If you kind of don't know who she really is?
08:13Well, you know, I feel like at the reunion, she spoke really well and I think she spoke to it very
08:17well. And, um, you know, I don't want to give too much away because I want everyone to be able to
08:21watch it. But I, I do feel as if the things that she said at the reunion are things that she probably
08:26should have said in Amsterdam at the dinner. And I think that's another reason why we were,
08:30why our takeaway was also difficult with her because, you know, I expected a different reaction
08:36that night at dinner. Like I would have been so irate that someone was putting that out there and
08:41making me into something I wasn't. And it was kind of her lack of emotion and lack of response that was
08:46like very confusing for us. So, you know, that, that was hard. That was a difficult takeaway,
08:52but I feel as if at the reunion, I think she spoke to it much better. And so there's more
08:58clarity there. As far as the evidence, I'm just saying the evidence part of it, like what Gretchen
09:03has and, and Tamara has, I don't know. Those are two people that have a very toxic relationship that
09:08they've had for years and years. And, you know, I, I don't know if, like I said, I don't know if
09:15there's like a smoking gun, which is what I would like. But, you know, at the end of the day,
09:20I've known Gretchen for years. I don't think that she's that type of person. I don't think
09:24she feels that in her heart. And, you know, if the, if, if those screenshots were manipulated in
09:30any way, that's just truly evil. Because the reunion, there is so much for Orange County fans
09:34to look forward to, for answers and clarity and a reunion in a lot of ways. Cause I feel like this
09:40is maybe the first time at a reunion, someone who wasn't on the show for since halfway through
09:45comes back to really reunite with all the ladies. I think I saw Katie saying on social
09:50media, she hopes to get to a good place with you all again, and that there could be a road
09:54for that. We see her really buddying up with Tamara now, which kind of surprised me because
10:00they didn't leave in perfect energy on the show. But I'm curious where you feel her place
10:06in the group could be if there is one moving forward.
10:08Um, I don't think that she left the reunion, like reuniting with any of us at all. I think
10:16she went in having the expectation that all of us are supposed to apologize to her, but
10:22I don't feel as if that was reciprocated in any way. Cause I do feel like there are a lot
10:27of things that she should also apologize for. She's made it a mission to defame all of us
10:33offline and to perpetuate false stories about us. I mean, there's a lot of things and there
10:38were a lot of things that we didn't bring up cause we just didn't want to bring them up, but
10:40we were aware and we know about it. And you know, it's, it's hard to forge a path forward
10:47with someone when they didn't take the time or effort to try to build any type of friendship
10:50from the get-go. So I don't know. And as far as her and Tamara, I mean, if that's not the
10:56fakest friendship I've ever seen, I can't even call that a friendship. What is that? I mean,
11:00Tamara's the one who brought up all of the things that, that Katie was doing offline. Like she's the
11:05one that brought up the blogger in the beginning. She's the one that brought up the Kiki Monique
11:09thing. She's the one that brought up that she recorded Shannon at the promo shots. I mean,
11:14Tamara's the one that put everything out there. So if Katie wants to be pissed at anyone, I mean,
11:20Tamara should be number one on her list, not the rest of us. So, I mean, that doesn't even make any
11:26sense. I mean, that's not even logical. So I don't even know what that is.
11:29Emily, it's almost like you have a law degree or something. Like the way, the way you explain
11:36stuff, it just, you, you have such a way with words. Obviously you're sitting right there in
11:40front of the legally brunette sign, which you, uh, the podcast that you co-host with your beautiful
11:44husband, Shane, what do you love most about doing that show with him?
11:48You know, I'll tell you, um, for me, I take, that's such a passion project for me because I love
11:54law school. Like that was one of my favorite times. I'm such a nerd. I love reading. I love
12:00being analytical. I love cases. I love true crime. And so it's a way for me to take all the things
12:06that I love that I'm really passionate about and put it into a podcast that is entertaining. So I
12:11do so much research for it and it just makes me feel like I'm in law school again. You know,
12:16I'm like, what case are we going to research this week? And it's nice. It's like being able to use
12:20those skills that I haven't used for a while. So I really, really enjoy it. And I think people
12:25really enjoy it. I get such great feedback on the podcast. And I think it's because it's not only
12:31just true crime and a story, but we also try to go into legal analysis and dig deeper and talk about
12:36things. And also you get like the fun banter between two people that have been married for 17
12:40years. So I think it has more of a, like a warm feeling where you're just like sitting around a
12:45table talking to Shane and me at dinner about some interesting case that's, you know, that everybody
12:49wants to talk about. I love that. And I love that we get to see you guys, your dynamic, not just on
12:54Orange County, but legally brunette and now on white swap. And you did end the episode saying that maybe
12:59in a year you would be down to white swap again. I would, I would absolutely. I feel like, you know,
13:06it was such an amazing experience and I, I only took good away from it. You know, I learned a lot
13:12about myself. I learned a lot about how much Shane does that I was telling you before, like to me,
13:17that's just normal. So I don't even, I know that there's a lack of recognition and how much he
13:22does. You know, Eric really opened up my eyes to the fact that Shane does so much because he does
13:27so little, but I also felt like Eric was endearing and that he wants to change. I think he, I felt
13:32like he wants to be a better husband and he wants to be a better dad. I just feel like he just didn't
13:36know how to do it. You know, what do you think if Heather Dubrow was plopped in that pig farm with the
13:43horses and everything happened to do manure, how do you think she would have failed? I tell you what,
13:47I would pay money to see that. And her Chanel boots. That would be amazing. That'd be amazing.
13:55Now, obviously Emily, after your episode of Wife Swap, we got the grand finale with Dr. Wendy
13:59Osefo and Eddie Osefo. In your legal opinion, do you have any thoughts and feelings about what
14:06they're going through? Um, you know, I know Wendy and I, I think she's lovely. I think she's
14:12such, she was always been so kind to me anytime I've met her. Um, I did kind of dig into their
14:17case and read about it. It doesn't look great. Um, I'll just say that I do hope that she has some
14:25kind of solid defense. I know that there was, I know that I read some things about, they were saying
14:30that maybe the search was illegal. I don't know. We'll see what happens with that. I mean,
14:35I definitely follow it because it's legal, but I would say it doesn't look great. Seems like
14:40they have a lot of evidence against them. It doesn't look amazing. But Emily, this episode
14:45was so much fun. I need you to do another episode of Wife Swap because watching you and your family
14:51just kind of getting that more quality time and everything was such a treat. And we can't
14:55wait to see you at BravoCon too. Yeah, we're so pumped. You know what else I was thinking?
14:58And maybe you guys can plant this in somebody's ear, but I feel like we need some kind of
15:02reunion. Oh yeah. That would be sick. I would love that. And I mean, two of the families are
15:07in Jersey. So I'm team, everyone just come to Jersey. I would love that. Cause I feel like,
15:12you know, the last time I saw Callie was at my house and you know, it was emotional. And then
15:17she's taking that information and going and she's going to go meet with Eric. And it's like,
15:21I just want to follow up. I want to know where the, you know, I mean, I do talk to Callie,
15:25we text and stuff, but I, I feel like the viewers would want to know like what happened since then,
15:30you know, a little catch up. Yeah. Cause I love, I know. I love that. They ended it with like,
15:34I think she DMG that they did like a lunch at the practice and everything. That's so sweet.
15:39Okay. We'll put it out there. It will manifest it. All right. Thank you so much. Okay. Thanks guys.
15:47Great seeing you.
