00:00Patients at a clinic in Sudan's North Darfur on Monday described a desperate escape from famine-stricken Al-Fashir, which was captured by the Rapid Support Forces last week.
00:09The city was the final stronghold of the Sudanese army in the western Darfur region before it fell to the paramilitary group after an 18-month siege.
00:18Witnesses reported mass killings following the RSF's advance, and many of the city's residents remain unaccounted for.
00:25Abdallah Hassaballah is among the thousands who arrived in the town of Tawila after fleeing the RSF takeover in Al-Fashir.
00:33Once you leave the gates, the bodies start. The bodies continue all the way to Garry.
00:42Some were killed by thirst, some by exhaustion, some by their injuries, the bleeding.
00:48Some were injured by the rockets in Al-Fashir. They hurt more than gunshots, the shrapnel.
00:59They get into your body. They cause your legs to swell, stop your blood flowing.
01:05It exhausts you. It impacts you within two or three hours.
01:09International aid agency Doctors Without Borders runs the clinic, which is treating the wounded and malnourished.
01:23Muna Hanibali is a medical team leader there.
01:27The main cases we receive are trauma cases, primarily gunshot wounds, unstable fractures, infected wounds,
01:34and surgical complications that occurred in Al-Fashir.
01:42But given the lack of equipment and medicines, such as antibiotics,
01:46most of these injuries become infected and require a second operation.
01:50Al-Fashir's capture marked a turning point in a two-and-a-half-year-old war between the RSF and the army.
01:58The siege had cut off food supplies, forcing many locals to eat animal feed
02:02as they sought shelter from drones and shelling.
02:05Hanibali again.
02:08One of our main fears concerns all the civilians still trapped in Al-Fashir.
02:12Right now, the situation of those who are arriving is very worrying.
02:21Malnutrition, lack of medical care, and a lack of all basic necessities, starting with water and food.
02:32In addition to those who reached Tawila, the International Organization for Migration believes
02:38more than 60,000 others have escaped Al-Fashir, though their whereabouts remain unclear.
02:43Estimates say as many as 200,000 people may still be trapped in the city.
