00:00I've seen Rings of Power, obviously.
00:02It's not necessarily something that I watch generally.
00:05We did lend our support.
00:06Myself, Elijah, Sean, and Billy lent our support
00:09to kind of say to people,
00:12listen, if it's not your type of show
00:14and you want to protect the, you know,
00:18Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings franchise,
00:22that's fine.
00:23You can do that.
00:24You don't have to watch it
00:25and you can support the Peter Jackson trilogy
00:27as much as you want.
00:28And what we were trying to get behind was
00:30that is not a permission for you to now spew hate
00:34towards these new actors or these new filmmakers.
00:38There is room in Middle Earth for everyone.
00:41And if someone wants to come at it from a different angle
00:43and they want to do an animated version
00:45or they want to do a German version
00:47or they want to do Lord of the Rings in space
00:49or any of these things, just let people do it.
00:52And if you don't like it, that's fine.
00:54You don't like it.
00:55That is not permission for you to shout and scream
00:58and rant and rave and all that kind of stuff.
00:59What I will say about the Peter Jackson trilogy,
01:04which I say very often to people,
01:08is it's the only project that I've done
01:10in my entire career,
01:13which I've been lucky enough to do some other
01:15relatively well-known pieces of work,
01:18where it gets stronger and stronger
01:20the further that I get away from it.
01:21Everything else fades, which is really interesting.
01:24And big projects have faded over the years.
01:27You know, Star Wars fades.
01:28X-Men fades.
01:30Lost fades.
01:31You can feel it fading.
01:32And maybe they bring it back in some other way
01:34and it adds a little bit of a moment.
01:35But it's gradually fading over time.
01:39Pete Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy
01:40went from being, when it came out in the cinema,
01:43went from being a great film that people seem to like
01:46to a relatively quick kind of modern classic,
01:50to a classic, to an out-and-out Stonewall
01:53classic piece of benchmark cinema.
01:56And being involved in something like that
01:59kind of keeps you in this very exalted,
02:03very fortunate position of knowing
02:07that you're lucky enough to be part of
02:10the history of that medium.
02:13At some point when you're telling the story of cinema,
02:15at some point you have to put a pin
02:17in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy
02:20and say, and then this happened, you know?
02:22And to be involved in something like that
02:23is just an actor's dream come true.
02:25I mean, would you ever return as Mary
02:27in some kind of capacity?
02:29Has there ever been any talks at all?
02:32There's always been talks,
02:33because obviously, you know,
02:34I'm still super tight with Pete Jackson
02:36and his team.
02:38And I think I will probably go to New Zealand
02:41next year when they are filming
02:44The Hunt for Garland,
02:45which obviously my great friend Andy Serkis
02:47is going to star in and direct in.
02:49There's going to be, I think,
02:50some other people from Lord of the Rings
02:52going down there too.
02:54I would like to just be on set
02:55just to lend support to Andy
02:58and say hello to people.
03:00I think that that particular story
03:03takes place at a time where,
03:06if we're just talking about my character,
03:08Mary isn't necessarily involved
03:10in anything super important.
03:12I think he's probably still enjoying pints of beer
03:17in the local pub
03:19and being a young man growing up in the Shire,
03:22you know.
03:23So we have talked about stuff.
03:26And I think, you know, who knows?
03:28I think, to be honest,
03:30I think everyone in the Lord of the Rings gang,
03:33the Pete Jackson Lord of the Rings gang,
03:34is putting a lot of faith behind
03:36this Gollum film
03:39in the hopes that it shows
03:40that there's an appetite
03:41for people to want more Lord of the Rings stuff.
03:43And if that happens
03:44and the film is successful
03:45and people seem to have voted
03:47with their feet to say,
03:49we would like to consistently
03:50go back to Middle Earth,
03:52I wouldn't be surprised
03:53if there's some Hobbit stories to tell.
03:56It's cozy, right?
03:57Why wouldn't you want some cozy stories?
03:59And I know you can't say much,
04:01but of course, being on set,
04:03that could be kind of, you know,
04:05maybe you could be on screen for it.
04:09Honestly, at this point,
04:11that set visit,
04:12hand on my heart,
04:13would be an opportunity
04:15to go and see some crew members
04:17that are obviously working
04:18on the Rings trilogy,
04:20see Andy,
04:22be around,
04:23maybe be there over a couple of weekends
04:25where we have some dinners.
04:26And, you know,
04:27because you're going to have cast members
04:28and crew members
04:29that are going to start
04:31to get exhausted from the schedule
04:33and maybe might benefit
04:35from a little bit of moral support
04:38and people being there.
04:39So it's honestly, for me,
04:41an opportunity to go down to New Zealand,
04:43hopefully when the weather's still good,
04:44see some friends,
04:46have some fun.
04:47And listen, you know,
04:48if Andy says to me,
04:50you know,
04:51put on a floppy hat
04:52and a cape
04:54and go stand 300 feet over there
04:56and we'll just see
04:57a blurry figure in the distance,
04:59you know, like,
04:59I think famously Prince
05:00played the body in Fargo.
05:02Did you know that piece of movie history?
05:04So, you know,
05:05if Andy's like,
05:06look, you can go do something
05:07in the background,
05:08then of course, maybe.
05:09But at this point,
05:10it's just an opportunity
05:11to go see friends.
