00:00It's another brilliant day and what's becoming an increasingly exciting season for South Shields.

00:04They're into the FA Cup first round proper for the third time in the last six seasons.

00:10A surprisingly routine win against Portland United who came here looking to cause an upset.

00:15But in reality, they were blown away inside the opening 20 minutes.

00:19South Shields got the start, they must have dreamed off Paul Blackett with an overhead kick,

00:24an acrobatic finish to give them the lead on seven minutes.

00:27Former Sutherland youngster Caden Kelly added to the lead just after the quarter hour mark.

00:31And then Blackett doubled his tally for the day with a good finish just before the midway point of the first half.

00:37Blackett may feel he should have actually had a hat-trick in the first half.

00:40Played it on goal by Will Jenkins but was denied by the visitor's goalkeeper.

00:45A fourth goal did arrive just after half time.

00:47It was Kedwin Scott this time adding his name to the score sheet after Blackett actually turned provider

00:52with a brilliant cross from the left-hand side of the far post that Scott really couldn't miss.

00:57And that meant the second half really was just a kind of procession after that.

01:01And the visitors did have one chance with about a quarter of an hour remaining.

01:05It produced a great save from Jasper Shake who somehow, a combination of attacker and one of his own defenders,

01:12rebounded the ball goalwards.

01:14But Shake has got her hand up and tipped it over the bar.

01:16Absolutely stunning save.

01:18And speaking after the game, Ian Watson spoke of his pride over the attitude, the desire of his players.

01:25And he's right to do so.

01:26They simply blew away Spaulding today.

01:28As I said, it's now 13 or 14 games unbeaten in all competitions for the Mariners.

01:33Good crowd here, about 1,600, just under.

01:36And they've got the value for money because their side just played with confidence.

01:41They played with style, with intensity, and everything that Ian Watson and Carl Magna would want from their players.

01:48Because, you know, nobody will want to play them in the first round proper.

01:52Obviously, you think the big names going into that draw, the likes of, who's in there, Cardiff City, Luton Town, Bradford City,

02:01some big, big clubs, you know, former Premier League clubs, I should say.

02:05The thought of them coming here to the First Cloud Arena for what would surely be a TV game and a sellout crowd

02:10would be something incredibly special and another big moment in the rise of South Shields Football Club.

02:15They'll return to league action, National League North action, next week when Hereford, the visit, is here.

02:22They'll hope to continue and extend their lead at the top of the National League North.

02:27But again, it's just been another big, big day and another exciting moment for Ian Watson for South Shields.
