Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's 3-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League at St James' Park. Goals from Anthony Gordon and a brace from Harvey Barnes sealed a comfortable win for Eddie Howe's side against Jose Mourinho's side.

00:00So Newcastle United secured their first Champions League home win in over two

00:04years with a comfortable 3-0 win over Jose Mourinho's Benfica here at St.

00:09James's Park. Now coming to the match we all know how important it was to get not

00:13only get a win but to get a win in front of their own crowd and really stamp a

00:16marker on this Champions League League phase you know they've got eight games

00:19in total they've already had three including tonight so to have come away

00:22with the first three games with six points is a fantastic return and to be

00:25fair Newcastle I thought they weathered the storm really well Benfica dug in

00:29made it difficult for them for a bit but as soon as Anthony Gordon put them

00:32ahead they never really looked back I thought that the first half was quite

00:36even Newcastle maybe just shaded it and I think they deserve that goal and Jacob

00:40Murphy again with a fantastic assist it was I think everyone wanted to see

00:45Murphy play I think he earned that chance with some of his recent

00:48performances and it was a brilliant cross one Bruno Guimara fed him in brilliant

00:52cross Anthony Gordon and Gordon at the back post does what all good wingers

00:56should do and he's there to just tuck the ball home and Newcastle then went

00:59into halftime one goal ahead a little bit nervous I think there was a couple

01:02moments of down burn left back don't you look about you got in behind him and

01:07Nick Pope I mean a couple of big saves but it wasn't too much and attacking from

01:12Benfica wasn't prolonged and sustained attack it was more counter-attacks and big

01:15breaks but once you guys have got out there in the halftime the reset and

01:21Eddie how just kept it the same really didn't really need to change too much and but

01:26when he did change something in the second half that he was rewarded with two goals now the second

01:31goal is a simply brilliant goal from Harvey Barnes to be fair he gets the ball and from

01:38a magnificent throw from Nick Pope it was absolutely fantastic Pope collects the ball

01:42it takes the time to set up launch of it it's being recorded 65 yards sorry don't know the

01:47exact yard John edge but he was in his own box obviously and the ball doesn't bounce until it goes

01:51past halfway Barnes has still has a lot of do but runs 20 yards of the ball and fires it into the

01:55bottom corner it was absolutely brilliant from Harvey Barnes and that goal really settled the

01:59nerves if the first one sort of helped that one was a seller that one's the whole of St James Park

02:04started to really believe that actually this could be the game where they they get that win and that

02:08they've done enough because we all know Jose Mourinho's side are going to be difficult to beat

02:11then they're always going to have a chance you would think to come back into the game but that goal

02:14from Barnes really and I would say it killed it off and if that one didn't kill it off then the third one

02:19certainly did it was great little player from Gordon Valdemar a lovely little flicks you can

02:23tell their linkups getting you know building week by week game by game fed Gordon Fred Barnes and

02:28Barnes just poked it under the keeper 3-0 and I think I tweeted out games that much because

02:33I could even mean force that Bob and I had a header saved Joe Willock went close to the head I damn

02:37been had a volley from the edge of the area that went and it was saved saved well by the Benfica keeper

02:42so it was really good performance from your castle once something they needed you know lots of good

02:46individual performances they weren't just reliant on a bit and Nick Walter had a magic

02:49Valdemar had a good game but it was Anthony Gordon stepped up uh today Jacob Murphy another

02:54says Harvey Barnes in the second half was brilliant as well so they had lots of good individual players

02:58and individual performances across the team and it was good to see them get some goals because

03:02they've been really goal shy of late not in this competition of course they've scored eight

03:05goals in three games but it was good to see them get goals and we could have really scored more you

03:09know they had lots of chances and if you guys keep back kept them in it and yeah it's always good

03:13positive signs towards Fulham um on Saturday now that is another huge game in the Premier League and of course

03:18they'll um they'll be determined to get three points there in front of again 53,000 people

03:23are seeing James Park but right now you guys can go home and reflect on a good good night's work

03:28and they've got the three points and that's all that mattered in a comfortable win as well that

03:32were just cherry on top of the ice and on the cake
