00:00:00Oh, what a goal!
00:00:02Oh, look at that!
00:00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:06Rooney up!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30MUSIC
00:00:50Seven games, plenty of goals, and a couple of horror shows.
00:00:53Alan Shearer and Ashley Williams join us.
00:00:56It's a day late, but is that a trick or a treat?
00:00:58I'll let you at home decide.
00:01:00It was six defeats in seven in all competitions for Champions Liverpool.
00:01:05Aston Villa had just won their last four in the league.
00:01:08Your commentator at Anfield, Steve Wilson.
00:01:11Only once in the last 70 years have Liverpool suffered such a dismal run of results.
00:01:17Informed Villa might be feeling that this represents an opportunity to beat them
00:01:22for the first time since that 7-2 game of 2020.
00:01:27Ignore the Carabao Cup, after all Arna Slott did.
00:01:30There are two changes to the Liverpool XI beaten by Brentford last weekend.
00:01:34Kerkhez and Wirtz replaced by Robertson and fit again Dravenberg.
00:01:39Villa, who've won their last four, the longest current winning streak in the Premier League,
00:01:44make one change.
00:01:45Evan Guesson for the injured Emiliano Buendiae.
00:01:52Can Liverpool get a league victory on the board after a dismal period?
00:01:58Watkins.
00:01:59Watkins.
00:02:00Rodgers trying to give Watkins options.
00:02:02Here he is, Morgan Rodgers.
00:02:05Lots of white shirts.
00:02:06Forward needs hit the post.
00:02:08Well, Morgan Rodgers scored a fine goal at Tottenham Hotspur the other week.
00:02:14There's a little deflection on that and it carried it beyond Marmodashvili.
00:02:19In 2024, the calendar year, excluding penalty shootouts, he lost one game.
00:02:24In 2025, excluding shootouts.
00:02:27So far, he's lost 14.
00:02:32Gakpo into Dominic Sobosly.
00:02:35It wasn't far away.
00:02:37Decent hit but always heading wide, as you can see from that angle.
00:02:42And Martinez never looked worried.
00:02:50Salah's got the better of Lucardine here.
00:02:52And he's inside of Onana.
00:02:54And he's looking for Gakpo.
00:02:56And his header nearly found Ekichike.
00:02:59Pretty certain Cody Gakpo was trying to get that on target.
00:03:03But it actually very nearly landed on the head of Hugo Ekichike.
00:03:08Gakpo first, Sobosly.
00:03:11Robertson deflected and tightly for Villa.
00:03:19Rodgers.
00:03:20Put the camera into Cash, Villa have broken quickly and in numbers.
00:03:29Cash!
00:03:30Oh!
00:03:31Goodness me!
00:03:32He is so close.
00:03:34This is a brilliant effort.
00:03:36And make no mistake about it.
00:03:38He meant it all right.
00:03:39Georgie Marmadashvili's got a finger on this.
00:03:42It took a deflection too.
00:03:43And that's twice now Villa have hit the woodwork.
00:03:46Rodgers.
00:03:47There's a gap.
00:03:48And he's going through it.
00:03:49And he's hit it well.
00:03:50And Marmadashvili pushed it out.
00:03:51Good run by Rodgers.
00:03:52Good hit too though.
00:03:53Marmadashvili would expect to save those all day long really.
00:04:06Sobosly basically surrendered the Carabao Cup in midweek.
00:04:10Which some might understand, some didn't.
00:04:14Sobosly.
00:04:15How Torres.
00:04:17Line has been nicked by Sobosly.
00:04:20Dominic Sobosly it's tamely into Emiliano Martinez.
00:04:24He had Eketike to his left.
00:04:27Salah to his right.
00:04:28And Villa are very lucky to get away with this.
00:04:31They're actually unbeaten in six now, Villa.
00:04:36They haven't lost a league game since August.
00:04:38Ryan Gravenberg.
00:04:41Salah.
00:04:42Looking for Gravenberg.
00:04:44It's come to McAllister.
00:04:45Great block by Konsa.
00:04:47Really good defending that.
00:04:49Luka Dean's lost his bearings here a little bit.
00:04:54Sobosly.
00:04:55Eketike!
00:05:01Liverpool lead.
00:05:05If he's onside, there'll be a check.
00:05:07Oh, he's offside.
00:05:08That's not going to count.
00:05:09Quite surprising that the flag didn't go up in all honesty.
00:05:10Because he's that far offside.
00:05:11His face suggested that the celebrations were going to be cut short.
00:05:27And that is the case.
00:05:29Oh!
00:05:30What's he done, Emilio Martinez?
00:05:31Mohamed Salah rolls in his 250th Liverpool goal.
00:05:32And it was wrapped up with a silk bow and presented to him.
00:05:36Liverpool in front.
00:05:37And at a time when they desperately needed a bit of luck or an absolute gift, they got
00:05:43the latter.
00:05:44Give Salah a bit of credit.
00:05:45He still actually finished it quite nicely.
00:05:46Putting it to the left of Pau Torres.
00:05:47Villa have hit the woodwork twice.
00:05:48Villa have hit the woodwork twice.
00:05:49But gifted Liverpool the lead.
00:05:50And it was wrapped up with a silk bow and presented to him.
00:05:54Liverpool in front.
00:05:55And at a time when they desperately needed a bit of luck or an absolute gift, they got
00:06:03the latter.
00:06:04The third one.
00:06:05The third one.
00:06:06The third one.
00:06:07Give Salah a bit of credit.
00:06:08He still actually finished it quite nicely.
00:06:11Putting it to the left of Pau Torres.
00:06:13Villa have hit the woodwork twice.
00:06:15But gifted Liverpool the lead.
00:06:18Such is Liverpool's propensity to concede goals that it's very unlikely that they will
00:06:26feel comfortable at 1-0.
00:06:27They might not feel comfortable at 2-0.
00:06:29Van Dijk directing it to Gapto.
00:06:33McAlliston to Gravenberg.
00:06:36Here's an opportunity.
00:06:37Gravenberg.
00:06:382-0.
00:06:39Well, they've missed him, Ryan Gravenberg, with that ankle injury.
00:06:44But he's back in the side.
00:06:46And back in the goals.
00:06:47And Liverpool have a cushion now.
00:06:50And it's a big deflection of the sliding Pau Torres, which actually diverted it away
00:06:57from Martinez.
00:06:58A little bit unfortunate Villa here.
00:07:00But it's Liverpool 2-0.
00:07:03It feels like the next goal in this game could be very important.
00:07:08If Liverpool were to score it, then you'd think job done.
00:07:11If Villa get it, then a very different story.
00:07:14Oh, deflected into the path of Dominic Sabaslay.
00:07:17This could finish it here.
00:07:19Mohamed Salah.
00:07:20Oh, it's blocked.
00:07:22Rebounding to Sabaslay.
00:07:24He's in an offside position.
00:07:26It's a real opportunity that for Liverpool.
00:07:29Again from Villa error.
00:07:31Pass from Sabaslay.
00:07:33Had it been onto Salah's right boot, just might have made it more favourable for him.
00:07:38Emery Borde.
00:07:39Never.
00:07:40Proves every minute.
00:07:41Ryan Gravenberg.
00:07:42Good block by Esri Concer.
00:07:43Straight into the path of advancing Villa.
00:07:44Barclay into Daniel Marlin as the subs combine.
00:07:45And Marlin puts that just wide.
00:07:46Started by Concer, continued by Barclay.
00:07:47And dipping wide from Marlin.
00:07:48Well, that's nicely worked to Cash.
00:07:49Watkins in the middle.
00:07:50Rogers in the middle.
00:07:51Blocked by Van Dijk.
00:07:52Villa corner.
00:07:53Blocked by Van Dijk.
00:07:54There's a glimmer of that.
00:07:55And with 20 minutes to go.
00:07:56And with 20 minutes to go.
00:07:57That's the goal of advancing Villa.
00:07:58Barclay into Daniel Marlin as the subs combine.
00:07:59And Marlin puts that just wide.
00:08:01Started by Concer, continued by Barclay.
00:08:04And dipping wide from Marlin.
00:08:06Well, that's nicely worked to Cash.
00:08:12Watkins in the middle.
00:08:13Rogers in the middle.
00:08:15Blocked by Van Dijk.
00:08:16Villa corner.
00:08:17There's a glimmer of that.
00:08:19And with 20 minutes to go.
00:08:22And with 20 minutes to go.
00:08:23If Villa can get one.
00:08:24They will firmly believe that they have time to get another one.
00:08:27In a crowded goal mouth tonight.
00:08:33Now.
00:08:34Alexis McAllister.
00:08:39Onana shoving McAllister here around the neck.
00:08:45Which is ill-advised.
00:08:48It's a yellow card for Amadou Onana.
00:08:51And he's nudged McAllister over again.
00:08:58And the referee has said leave it out.
00:09:03Finally in comes the corner kick into the crowd.
00:09:15The referee has blown his whistle.
00:09:16And given the free kick to Liverpool.
00:09:18And McAllister and Onana three times involved in the tussle.
00:09:31A decision celebrated by Liverpool's World Cup winner.
00:09:37One of two Villa fans now beginning to drift away.
00:09:44The M6 isn't that far away.
00:09:46But can take a long time to get there from here.
00:09:48After a match.
00:09:49And Unite Emery is a bit annoyed with Dominic Solverslai.
00:10:01He thinks they are not getting on with it.
00:10:04And Solverslai has indeed been shown a yellow card.
00:10:07And so too has Unite Emery.
00:10:10The margins are small.
00:10:11Every single game.
00:10:12So again today after five minutes they hit the post.
00:10:17Maybe we didn't concede a set-piece.
00:10:19Which is helpful as well.
00:10:20And maybe we were now a little bit lucky.
00:10:22Good first goal.
00:10:23Although they made a mistake of course.
00:10:25But it wasn't the first time that we were able to be dangerous after a high press.
00:10:30And second goal deflection is a bit of luck.
00:10:33Which we haven't had a lot of the last few weeks.
00:10:36The second half we started not with the first half we did.
00:10:41And then we were trying to change something.
00:10:44They scored the second goal.
00:10:45And after it was more difficult.
00:10:46But how we compete.
00:10:48How we played overall.
00:10:52Building the team like we are.
00:10:55We had to accept this defeat.
00:10:57And try to keep going.
00:11:00And looking forward for the next matches.
00:11:03So Liverpool back to winning ways Ashley.
00:11:05But even Arna Slott had talked of late about the blueprint to beat his team.
00:11:10But Villa went away from that today.
00:11:12Yeah like recent weeks Liverpool have showed a vulnerability in dealing with long balls.
00:11:16Straight down the middle.
00:11:17And as you said Arna Slott has mentioned that in recent weeks.
00:11:21But we know Unai Emery is very tactically sound.
00:11:25But I was confused about the way he set his team up today.
00:11:28With the tactics that they were playing.
00:11:30Especially from the goalkeeper.
00:11:32They had numerous chances to play the ball.
00:11:34Into the position we were just talking about.
00:11:36Where Liverpool have struggled.
00:11:37But they seemed obsessed with playing the short pass.
00:11:40And Liverpool were very front footed today.
00:11:42And this is early on in the game.
00:11:45They get away with that one.
00:11:46Here's another chance to play the ball.
00:11:48But long because it's Oli Watkins who's good at holding the ball up.
00:11:51That's not long enough.
00:11:52Robertson wins it.
00:11:54Ends up with a chance again.
00:11:55They get away with it again.
00:11:57And it was every single time with Martinez.
00:12:00Paul Torres can play the same ball from this position.
00:12:03He turns that down.
00:12:05They want to build up through midfield.
00:12:07But it's slow.
00:12:08It's sluggish.
00:12:09It's not sharp enough.
00:12:10He doesn't get turned.
00:12:11Now they've got themselves into trouble again.
00:12:13That should have been a goal.
00:12:14So they've had lots and lots of warnings.
00:12:17Torres is on the ball again.
00:12:18With no pressure.
00:12:19If you've got Oli Watkins up front.
00:12:21Hit him.
00:12:22Or put it in behind him.
00:12:23Make the defenders run back to their own goal.
00:12:25And deal with it.
00:12:26This is what I mean about the sloppy play.
00:12:28So not only have they not gone long.
00:12:30They're passing it.
00:12:31And it's so inaccurate.
00:12:32And sloppy.
00:12:33And Mo Salah will never score an easier goal than that.
00:12:36In his career.
00:12:37So it was just confusing really.
00:12:39This is.
00:12:40We've got this.
00:12:41The graph up here.
00:12:42The stats.
00:12:43And they've played the fewest long balls against Liverpool.
00:12:45This season.
00:12:46And when it's so obvious that they've been vulnerable to that.
00:12:50It was confusing that Unai Emery.
00:12:52All the Aston Villa players decided to play short out from the back.
00:12:55I should say as well.
00:12:56That was Mo Salah's 250th goal.
00:12:57Plus and third on the all-time list for Liverpool.
00:12:59Generally.
00:13:00Ashley said they're front footed.
00:13:01They were more physical.
00:13:02More combative.
00:13:03And more energy.
00:13:04Definitely.
00:13:05Liverpool.
00:13:06It wasn't perfect.
00:13:07Better.
00:13:08And they just had to win the game tonight.
00:13:10But I thought the Gravenberg back in midfield gave them a bit more energy.
00:13:14A bit more stability.
00:13:15And certainly a bit more organisation.
00:13:17And there's no doubt they deserve to win the game.
00:13:20I thought they played well.
00:13:22They pressed there.
00:13:23They win the ball back there.
00:13:24And you can see that they're all in really good positions.
00:13:27Ready to hit Aston Villa again.
00:13:29And that's what they did.
00:13:30They said they're on a slot.
00:13:31They got the little bit of luck.
00:13:32Perhaps they haven't had it with a little deflection.
00:13:33But you can see from that angle there.
00:13:34The way they set up.
00:13:35They know exactly what they want Aston Villa to do.
00:13:36And they're forcing them to do that.
00:13:37And we're really happy that they did that.
00:13:38Because as I said.
00:13:39They were ready for them.
00:13:40And they were organised.
00:13:41And they were organised.
00:13:42And they were organised.
00:13:43And they were organised.
00:13:44And they were organised.
00:13:45And they were organised.
00:13:46And they were organised.
00:13:47And they were organised.
00:13:48And they were organised.
00:13:49This wasn't happening last week.
00:13:52You've seen the performance.
00:13:54And again.
00:13:55Because of what the team that they put out with midweek.
00:13:57They somehow just had to win the game today.
00:13:59They've got to get their belief back.
00:14:00A little bit of confidence back.
00:14:02And that will do them the world of good.
00:14:04It was the right result.
00:14:05It's what they needed.
00:14:06And as I said.
00:14:07There's the stats there.
00:14:08Have a look at the stats.
00:14:09The duels won.
00:14:10The tackles.
00:14:11One of those things.
00:14:12Where they were criticised for.
00:14:13Last weekend.
00:14:14For not doing.
00:14:15This weekend.
00:14:16This game.
00:14:17It was back to something.
00:14:18That we've been used to.
00:14:19With this Liverpool team.
00:14:20So hopefully.
00:14:21For them.
00:14:22From now on.
00:14:23That will be the start of their form.
00:14:24Back again.
00:14:25Thank you very much.
00:14:26Leaders.
00:14:27Arsenal didn't concede a goal.
00:14:28In October.
00:14:29Winning six matches.
00:14:30In all competitions.
00:14:31Back to back victories.
00:14:32For Burnley.
00:14:33Had moved them clear.
00:14:34Of the bottom three.
00:14:35Stephen Wyeth.
00:14:36Was at Turf Moor.
00:14:37A shared satisfaction.
00:14:38At even healthier positions.
00:14:40They may have aspired to.
00:14:41Burnley.
00:14:42Are six points.
00:14:43Better off.
00:14:44Than at this stage.
00:14:45Of their last visit.
00:14:46To the top flight.
00:14:47But changed the side.
00:14:48That won them.
00:14:49Those successive games.
00:14:50Josh Laurent.
00:14:51Replaces.
00:14:52Scott Parker.
00:14:53Opps to beef things up.
00:14:54Defensively.
00:14:55After ten changes.
00:14:56In the League Cup.
00:14:57In midweek.
00:14:58Arsenal revert.
00:14:59To the team.
00:15:00That made it four.
00:15:01Premier League wins.
00:15:02In a row.
00:15:03That means.
00:15:04William Saliba's overcome.
00:15:05An ankle injury.
00:15:06Leandro Trossard.
00:15:07Makes his 100th.
00:15:08League appearance.
00:15:09For the Gunners.
00:15:10Of both sets of players.
00:15:12Wearing black armbands.
00:15:13This afternoon.
00:15:14In memory.
00:15:15Of a pair of former Gunners.
00:15:17Willie Young.
00:15:18And Colin Addison.
00:15:19Young.
00:15:20Formed a formidable.
00:15:22Defensive partnership.
00:15:23Alongside that man.
00:15:24David O'Leary.
00:15:25Only Premier League champions.
00:15:26Liverpool.
00:15:27Have come to turf more.
00:15:28And left.
00:15:29With a league victory.
00:15:30In the last.
00:15:3118 months.
00:15:32And current.
00:15:33Premier League leaders.
00:15:34Looking to do something.
00:15:35About that.
00:15:36Today.
00:15:37Zubamendi.
00:15:38Coming for Jocheres.
00:15:39Ball instead.
00:15:40Finds Trossard.
00:15:41And it was Kalefury.
00:15:42Who'd made the run.
00:15:43And there was a deflection.
00:15:44On the pass.
00:15:45And there was a deflection.
00:15:46On the pass.
00:15:47And there was a deflection.
00:15:48On the pass.
00:15:49Dabravka realised that.
00:15:50Too late.
00:15:51And couldn't prevent it.
00:15:52Going behind.
00:15:53For a corner.
00:15:54Is an avoidable.
00:15:55Corner kick.
00:15:56Conceded.
00:15:57Just a hesitation.
00:15:58From Dabravka.
00:15:59Which meant he didn't.
00:16:00Manage to get.
00:16:01Across.
00:16:02To the ball.
00:16:03Quickly enough.
00:16:04So the Premier League's.
00:16:05Corner kick.
00:16:06Experts.
00:16:07Have their first.
00:16:08Of the afternoon.
00:16:09From Declan Rice.
00:16:10Deep with it.
00:16:11And.
00:16:12The Premier League's.
00:16:13Corner kick experts.
00:16:14Have their first.
00:16:15Of the afternoon.
00:16:16From Declan Rice.
00:16:17Deep with it.
00:16:18Confusion.
00:16:19And.
00:16:20Arsenal.
00:16:21Capitalise.
00:16:22Victor.
00:16:23Jocheres.
00:16:24Heads them in front.
00:16:25And.
00:16:28After five.
00:16:29Premier League games.
00:16:30Without a goal.
00:16:31Victor.
00:16:32Jocheres.
00:16:33Back on the score sheet.
00:16:34For the Premier League leaders.
00:16:36Rice.
00:16:37Swung it in.
00:16:39It was the depth.
00:16:40That had everybody.
00:16:41Peeling towards the back post.
00:16:43But all that resulted in.
00:16:44Is freeing up.
00:16:45Just enough space.
00:16:46For Jocheres.
00:16:47To pounce.
00:16:48To pounce.
00:16:49On the loose ball.
00:16:50Arsenal.
00:16:51Leader Burnley.
00:16:52By a goal.
00:16:53To nil.
00:16:58Jocheres.
00:16:59Helping it on towards Saka.
00:17:00As Dev didn't clear.
00:17:01Saka is in.
00:17:02Dubravka.
00:17:03Has come up with.
00:17:04What might just prove to be a really important save.
00:17:07But Kayo Saka scored twice here.
00:17:11For Arsenal two seasons ago.
00:17:13In a 5-0 win.
00:17:15That was a really good opportunity to make it 2-0 today.
00:17:19To Nzebi.
00:17:20Florentino.
00:17:21Saka.
00:17:22Very nearly.
00:17:23There before.
00:17:24Esteve.
00:17:25Rice.
00:17:26Across to make sure the ball didn't reach Fleming.
00:17:27And now here's Eza.
00:17:28Jocheres.
00:17:29Arsenal in business here.
00:17:30Saka.
00:17:31Sees his effort saved by Dubravka.
00:17:32And now Trussard.
00:17:33Can't find a way through either.
00:17:36Thanks to two Burnley players on the line.
00:17:40Saka.
00:17:41Onside.
00:17:42Plenty to aim at.
00:17:43And it was the long outstretched arm of Dubravka.
00:17:45That turned it aside.
00:17:46And then Trussard.
00:17:47And Hartman.
00:17:48And Tuanzevi.
00:17:49On the line.
00:17:50And now.
00:17:51Onside.
00:17:52Plenty to aim at.
00:17:53And it was the long outstretched arm of Dubravka that turned it aside.
00:17:56And then Trussard.
00:17:58And Hartman.
00:17:59And Tuanzevi.
00:18:00On the line.
00:18:01On the line.
00:18:07Walker with a big booming switch of play from one wing back to the other.
00:18:11Hartman.
00:18:13Launched by Timbuk.
00:18:17Burnley with a long throw opportunity that Karl Walker has gone across to take.
00:18:23Launched by Walker.
00:18:26Headed away with great determination by Gabriel.
00:18:31Walker's long throw is a weapon that Burnley will look to utilize.
00:18:36Gabriel with a towering leap above Fleming.
00:18:39And now Arsenal can break quickly, led by Jocheres.
00:18:42Ezzet through the middle, pass goes beyond that to Trossard.
00:18:49And now Arsenal shirts are arriving in numbers, Trossard for Rice!
00:18:53Rapid fire Arsenal from one end of the field to the other to put themselves 2-0 in front.
00:19:04And how's that for a goal from open play?
00:19:09A devastating counter-attack.
00:19:13Jocheres, with wonderful vision, he knew that Ezzet wasn't the best pass available.
00:19:19That Trossard beyond him was where it needed to go.
00:19:23That gave Arsenal the time they needed to get more bodies into the Burnley penalty area.
00:19:28And the one that arrived in the perfect area, Declan Rice.
00:19:33And the team that sits at the top of the table now have a margin that better reflects their first half-dominant.
00:19:42Arsenal have won their last three games in the Premier League without conceding a goal.
00:19:49Fleming feels as though he's been on the rough end of one or two decisions, and he gets one here.
00:19:54To Nsebi towards Esteve. Chance here for Burnley.
00:20:05About as good a chance as they've had.
00:20:09Florentino launched himself towards the ball, but it was just fractionally behind him,
00:20:15and that made it a harder chance than it might otherwise have been.
00:20:19Arsenal are going to start November as they navigated their way through October.
00:20:24The victory.
00:20:31Oh, Norgard has pinched the ball back, and Dubravka
00:20:37flying to make a save to prevent Christian Norgard getting a first Arsenal goal.
00:20:46Well, they've had to ride out some Burnley enthusiasm in the second half of Arsenal,
00:20:51but they are finishing the game deep in their opponent's territory.
00:20:58Making sure they have done enough.
00:21:01Can Arsenal give the travelling support something else to cheer in the game's dying embers?
00:21:05In from Rice.
00:21:09That's again Burnley uncertain.
00:21:12But they've passed on the loose ball.
00:21:16And they're looking to create something for themselves.
00:21:20Brun Larsson.
00:21:21Look who it is back winning the header.
00:21:23The player who took the corner, Declan Rice.
00:21:26Hannibal.
00:21:29Plains of handball, and it is indeed a late Burnley free kick.
00:21:35Yellow card is out as well for Gabrielle.
00:21:37Actually, not handball.
00:21:39Free kick for the challenge on Hannibal by Gabrielle.
00:21:43Marcus Edwards for Burnley hits the post.
00:21:53The final act of the game, the frame of the goal protecting Arsenal's clean sheets.
00:21:59And Arsenal start November as they serenely progressed through October with a win and no goal conceded.
00:22:07The first half we were exceptional, scored two goals, probably should have scored another two or three.
00:22:12We gave nothing away.
00:22:13And that was a platform to win it because in the second half it's true that we weren't that precise,
00:22:18especially with the ball.
00:22:20We had to make a few changes and we didn't have that much control of the game.
00:22:25But defensively, again, we were exceptional to maintain the clean sheet.
00:22:28We will take massive positives from that second half performance like we have throughout this season.
00:22:32When we've played against top, top teams, there's been elements that we need to improve on.
00:22:37And certain elements which are really encouraging.
00:22:39And that was his second half here today.
00:22:41And Declan Rice, he was everywhere today.
00:22:43It was as a game of a real leader, it seemed.
00:22:46Absolutely.
00:22:46I think he stepped up and won it in the most.
00:22:49He won, I don't know, how many balls, how many tackles.
00:22:51He carried the ball.
00:22:52He scored the goal.
00:22:53So, yeah, that's his evolution as a player.
00:22:56Longest winning run since 2018 with ten victories, seven clean sheets.
00:23:01So, you know, we heap the praise on Arsenal week after week in terms of their attack.
00:23:05And we talk about their set pieces.
00:23:06But you're going to look at their attack today through a different prism.
00:23:09Yeah, we've analysed Declan Rice this season, who's outstanding again today.
00:23:13We've looked at Jocheres.
00:23:15Obviously, defensively, we've looked at them and they're rock solid.
00:23:18But perhaps what we might not have seen so much are how such an important role is played
00:23:23by the two full-backs, Timber and Calafiore.
00:23:26I mean, their stats really are off the charts.
00:23:29And it would be easy to say, well, OK, because they dominated for large periods today, particularly
00:23:35in the first half.
00:23:36This is not today.
00:23:37This is all season.
00:23:38Look at the stats for total shots.
00:23:41Calafiore's second, expected goals, touches in the opposition box.
00:23:45They're so high up there, particularly compared to their forward players.
00:23:50And today was another great example of what a great strength it is to have them both.
00:23:56I mean, look at Calafiore here.
00:23:58He's in a centre-forward position.
00:23:59He's further forward than anyone else.
00:24:02And all right, he doesn't get the ball to begin with.
00:24:05But look what happens with that run.
00:24:07That then gets the corner, which Arsenal once again score from.
00:24:11Great delivery.
00:24:12The knockback is superb.
00:24:13And Jocheres is in there to tap it away.
00:24:16Same thing again.
00:24:17He gets into a really good forward position.
00:24:21That run is the run of a centre-forward.
00:24:23And again, they get another set-piece, which we know how dangerous they are.
00:24:28This he works really well.
00:24:29Not really involved until he gets into the box.
00:24:31But just watch his final position and where he actually ends up.
00:24:35Again, he's in that centre-forward position.
00:24:38Very difficult to pick up.
00:24:40Eventually, the ball gets to him there.
00:24:41He could get his shot away a little bit earlier, but he does eventually.
00:24:44And again, they get another set-piece.
00:24:46But it's all because of him and his willingness to get forward.
00:24:49Second half, all right, we looked at Calafiore in the first half.
00:24:52Uri and Timber did exactly the same on the other side in the second half.
00:24:57They are such a threat and so difficult to pick up.
00:25:00Now, watch his run into the centre-forward position.
00:25:03The ball goes in.
00:25:03It's a great ball.
00:25:04And he's really, really unlucky.
00:25:06He's not on the end of it.
00:25:07But his intention is to get in there.
00:25:09He's got a great relationship with Saka down that right-hand side.
00:25:12They understand each other.
00:25:13They know when and where to pass it.
00:25:14But again, he's in that position, getting forward.
00:25:17And there's Calafiore coming onto the edge of the box.
00:25:19So, something that we maybe not have picked out before,
00:25:23but it's something very different.
00:25:24And those two players give great options for Arsenal in those forward positions
00:25:28and have done all season.
00:25:30Alan mentioned Declan Rice.
00:25:31His manager today mentioned him as well.
00:25:33Gave him special praise.
00:25:35And you're also going to heap some attention onto him,
00:25:38because today was another complete performance.
00:25:39He was excellent today.
00:25:41I thought he covered every blade of grass.
00:25:43Look at these stats from the game today.
00:25:45He ranks first in touches, passes played into the box, total crosses.
00:25:51I like this one, because he's such a good ball carrier.
00:25:54The total distance of ball carrying.
00:25:56As a centre-back myself, he would be perfect if he's in front of you,
00:26:00because he does all of the work that you don't really see.
00:26:03He picks up second balls.
00:26:04His set-piece delivery is so important to what Arsenal do.
00:26:08They score so many goals from that.
00:26:10He also chips in with goals like he did today.
00:26:12He's, I wouldn't, I'd say, it's not an understatement to say at the minute
00:26:15he's the complete midfielder.
00:26:17He can attack and defend.
00:26:18I think he's so integral to what Arsenal are trying to do.
00:26:21He embodies everything that the managers built the team around.
00:26:24Outstanding.
00:26:25OK.
00:26:26It is a year today since Ruben Amaran took charge at Manchester United.
00:26:30Nottingham Forest have had more managers than points
00:26:33since an opening day win against Brentford.
00:26:35Guy Mowbrie was at the City round.
00:26:39The Forest team is the same one that played at Bournemouth
00:26:42and found itself two down by half-time last Sunday.
00:26:45Igor Jesus, one of three players, then replaced at the interval.
00:26:49But he starts again today looking to add to his total of five goals this season
00:26:53with a first in the Premier League.
00:26:55Brian Umbermo has got five for United,
00:26:57but four of those have come in the league,
00:26:59including two against Brighton last week.
00:27:02The visitors team is also unchanged.
00:27:06Before kick-off at the City ground, tributes paid to Colin Addison and Willie Young,
00:27:11former Forest players who sadly passed away yesterday.
00:27:15Addison scored five goals for Forest against United,
00:27:18making him the joint top scorer for the club in clashes between these two.
00:27:22United three Premier League wins in a row.
00:27:27Last one four in a row in February of 2024.
00:27:31And Doy has a go and stings the hands of Lannans.
00:27:36He had to watch that, it was swerving all over the shop.
00:27:39Forest are not playing like a team that's lost five of its last six games and been defeated in every one of its last four in the Premier League without scoring.
00:27:48Nice seems to have brought a modicum of confidence back.
00:27:53Bruno Fernandes, nice bit of control.
00:27:56Here's Umbermo, he leaves it for Ahmad though.
00:27:59And Ahmad's going to take on the shot, powered by Sels.
00:28:02Deflection off Nico Williams, might just have taken a bit of pace off.
00:28:08Hard to tell whether that made it more easy or more difficult for Matt Sels.
00:28:14Ruben Amerim had a smile on his face this week when he said it's been a big journey,
00:28:19one of the biggest honours of his life to be the Manchester United manager and he wants to stay for many years.
00:28:24Well, the huge tanker seems to be on the turn in the right direction.
00:28:32Back with Umbermo.
00:28:32He just gets himself a bit of room away from Williams.
00:28:39And an important header from Savona with Szczesko ready to test Sels if he could.
00:28:46And has now gone out, well, the Forest fans at the Trent End had a really good look at that,
00:28:51they're right on top of it, they of course didn't think it did.
00:28:54It was the hole of the ball, the full skin, over the line.
00:28:58Don't think that was entirely proved.
00:29:05Let's not forget that Forest conceded direct from a corner at Bournemouth last Sunday,
00:29:11when it shouldn't have been one.
00:29:13Oh, it's happened again!
00:29:15It's happened again to Nottingham Forest,
00:29:18and Casimiro scored again for Manchester United.
00:29:25Crossed the ball out of play, well, there is part of the circumference hanging over the line and
00:29:32generally that's deemed to be not fully out, but not this time.
00:29:35Kielhausen right on the other side, he thought he'd seen it cross the line in its entirety,
00:29:42gave the corner, and from the corner Manchester United score.
00:29:46Two weeks running, Forest have the same complaint.
00:29:48Anderson.
00:29:59Endoy.
00:30:04Yates, time to set himself before chipping in, gives one, tender goes in!
00:30:09Oh, that was pinpoint stuff!
00:30:16It's taken Forest less than three second-half minutes to level it up.
00:30:25Their first Premier League home goal since the opening weekend of the season.
00:30:31Lovely cross from Yates, and Hudson had always stayed in front of Ahmad.
00:30:34He wasn't strong enough to cope with him. It's still a heck of a header to beat the fully
00:30:41outstretched Senna Lamans and find the bottom corner.
00:30:45Once more, the message from Sean Dyche is switch on.
00:30:49A different guy to switch on this time.
00:30:54Gibbs-White, he's leading the charge.
00:30:56Gibbs-White looks for Endoy at the back.
00:31:07Endoy has Savona there to help him.
00:31:10Yates has time again.
00:31:12Didn't want to turn and deliver this time.
00:31:15Endoy does, and it loops up towards Igor Jesus,
00:31:18and it breaks here for the chance that he's taken...
00:31:23by Nicolo Savona.
00:31:31What a turnaround in no time at all.
00:31:35Igor Jesus caused a problem with his jump.
00:31:37All the United defenders got in one another's way.
00:31:40It was all about where the ball would break to.
00:31:42Nicolo Savona in behind them all to poke the ball home.
00:31:49And from 1-0 down, three minutes later, Forrester 2-1 up.
00:31:55Ruben Ameren wanting an improvement in Manchester United's away form.
00:31:59He's been saying we need to improve the way we control the environment.
00:32:02Well, this environment's got away from them here.
00:32:05Bruno Fernandes to shoot! Off the post is Casemiro!
00:32:09And he's just wide of the other post.
00:32:17It's a terrific try from Manchester United's captain.
00:32:21Clearly feels that he deserved the goal for it.
00:32:24It's hard to argue.
00:32:27Had a long way to travel and bobble its way towards Matt Sell's goal.
00:32:31Here come Forrest with Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:32:38And it whistles wide.
00:32:41They were clearing their throats behind that goal.
00:32:44Started on target and just curled away.
00:32:49Ruben Ameren.
00:32:50I don't think I've seen him look particularly angry before.
00:32:53He keeps a lid on his emotions by and large for good and bad, but...
00:32:58He looked to be close to cracking there.
00:33:02And Doi goes behind off Dorgu.
00:33:07I wouldn't say it's all Forrest since they turned it around to go in front, but...
00:33:12It's predominantly Forrest.
00:33:13It's Yanks who climbed.
00:33:24Handball shouts as Morello tangled with Ahmad.
00:33:26AAR had a little look at that.
00:33:30That was what they were shouting handball about.
00:33:32The ball clearly rolling down the shoulder on towards the hand of Ahmad.
00:33:36Nothing doing there.
00:33:39Manchester United's winning run.
00:33:40And here's an end unless they can score a couple of times.
00:33:45They've got a corner.
00:33:47That might aid their cause.
00:33:48Aboumou to take the corner.
00:33:53Sells to try and fight through the crowd.
00:33:55He couldn't.
00:33:56Dorku had a swipe and missed.
00:33:58Ahmad has a swipe and scores.
00:34:01Spectacularly.
00:34:072-2 at the city ground.
00:34:10Ahmad's first goal of the season is a beauty.
00:34:12Casimiro back across the penalty area.
00:34:16Dorku didn't make any connection with the ball.
00:34:20When it came out to Ahmad, he had a one-shot deal.
00:34:24That's a stunner.
00:34:25And it stunned Forrest.
00:34:27Nottingham Forrest 2, Manchester United 2.
00:34:34Bruno Fernandes to Dorku.
00:34:35Casimiro.
00:34:40Big deflection on that.
00:34:41Sells wrong-footed.
00:34:43But enough bounce on the ball to take it over.
00:34:46It came off Murillo, who didn't know whether to go head, knee or leg.
00:34:50Could have gone anywhere from there.
00:34:56Sean Dyche furious.
00:34:57They're trying to get instructions to his players.
00:34:59It's a short corner.
00:35:01And it's Ahmad with a deep one for De Ligt.
00:35:03Sells has to fly.
00:35:05There's Ahmad.
00:35:06Off the line.
00:35:08Nico Williams has somehow cleared that.
00:35:12Might have been Murillo.
00:35:15The two made sure they dropped back and prevented a Manchester United winner.
00:35:19Yeah, it's Murillo.
00:35:21A block that's as good as any save you'll see from a keeper.
00:35:24I think from the minute one, you can see how aggressive the game was.
00:35:27I think chances from both sides, making a lot of chances and obviously
00:35:31creating them and scoring them as well, to be fair.
00:35:33So I think obviously both teams done really well.
00:35:35But especially for us, we had an amazing game.
00:35:37We lost control of the game for five minutes.
00:35:39Two opportunities and they score.
00:35:41That can happen.
00:35:43I feel that in the recent past, if we had this situation,
00:35:49we would struggle so much more than today.
00:35:51We managed to control the emotions and we played well.
00:35:55But we dropped a little bit the energy.
00:35:59Happy to score my first goal.
00:36:00But honestly, the thing was to win as a team today, to go home with three points.
00:36:07I just find it bizarre.
00:36:09You know, the assistant referee, 78 yards or whatever it is.
00:36:12I'm sure you've got a bit of technology that can tell me exactly.
00:36:15You've got to guess on that.
00:36:16And if you're going to guess, surely you've got to give it to the defending team, I think.
00:36:21I know the Premier League want more goals and everyone wants more goals.
00:36:23But, you know, we're fighting to get out there.
00:36:26We're fighting for everything we can get.
00:36:28I just think two in two weeks is too much.
00:36:30You know, I mean, they talk about VR.
00:36:32We'll see him walking up to the monitor.
00:36:33He'll waste the time.
00:36:34We'll see him, you know, looking at this.
00:36:35Look at that.
00:36:36Waste of time.
00:36:36That'll take four seconds.
00:36:38We'll get on to that in a moment.
00:36:40But first of all, Amadiello.
00:36:41We heard him there and clearly has great talent.
00:36:44And we saw that today going forward.
00:36:46Does he create a conundrum for United?
00:36:47Yeah, I think conundrum's the correct word.
00:36:49Because he's in the team because of his attacking qualities.
00:36:53But he can't play in the 2-10 positions.
00:36:55Because you've got Mbwemo and Cunha that are playing really well.
00:36:58So where does he play?
00:36:59He plays right wing back.
00:37:01So what happens is he finds himself in defensive positions at times,
00:37:04which isn't his strength.
00:37:06If you look at this graphic, this is Hudson-Odoi's touches of the ball.
00:37:10So Callum Hudson-Odoi is an attacking player
00:37:13and he's very good in these positions.
00:37:15This is where he wants to get the ball.
00:37:17Amad, that's his average position today.
00:37:20So he's also an attacking player and he wants the ball going forward.
00:37:23But sometimes he finds himself here.
00:37:25Now, this is not what Manchester United want from Amad.
00:37:28If you look at Lenny Yarrow, he's got eyes on Nico Williams.
00:37:32He makes an inside run.
00:37:33I think they've tried to isolate Amad against Hudson-Odoi.
00:37:37Casemiro can deal with Nico Williams.
00:37:39And what I would like is Lenny Yarrow to come across and be telling Amad,
00:37:43I'm with you, send him inside.
00:37:45But Hudson-Odoi gets to the byline with ease, puts a crossing, they nearly score.
00:37:51This time, again, he's in this sort of full-back position because he has to do his work.
00:37:56He's an honest lad and he's trying to get back in and do a job for the team.
00:37:59But it's not his quality.
00:38:00His quality is going forward.
00:38:02So as we've highlighted him here, as we freeze it,
00:38:05you've got the three centre-backs.
00:38:07If Luke Shaw moves back a little bit, De Ligt is marking Milenkovic.
00:38:11And then Lenny Yarrow can move back and do Morgan Gibbs-White,
00:38:15which would allow Amad to be outside to do Hudson-Odoi.
00:38:19But as we roll it on, now we have Amad in a centre-backs position,
00:38:23trying to head a ball out, which is not his strength.
00:38:26And then they concede from that.
00:38:27On the flip side, this is why he's in the team.
00:38:30Because his quality, and when he's going forward, he's devastating.
00:38:35Gets it out of his feet, great shot, equal save.
00:38:39Again, going forward, brilliant.
00:38:41Takes a touch, acres of space.
00:38:43This is a beautiful ball, bounces about two yards out.
00:38:47Unlucky, Casemiro's unlucky not to score.
00:38:51This is his goal.
00:38:54Wham! What a strike that is.
00:38:56The technique, if you look at the technique, it's perfect.
00:38:59What a goal that is.
00:39:01This isn't the player that you want defending.
00:39:03Here, he puts the ball in at the back stick,
00:39:07it comes back out, he follows it in.
00:39:09Could have won it at the death, if not for a great block
00:39:11from two of the Forest players.
00:39:14But he's in the team because of his attacking play,
00:39:18and he's such an honest lad that he ends up doing lots of defensive work,
00:39:21and then he ends up...
00:39:23It looks bad on him, but realistically,
00:39:26Ruben Ameren's got to sort this problem out,
00:39:28where we get Lenny Yarrow across a bit quicker,
00:39:30so he can play higher up the pitch.
00:39:31Now, we're going to get onto the corner,
00:39:33but there is something else that Forest fans are not happy about tonight,
00:39:36and it involves Ahmed, so we're going to have a look at this now.
00:39:39Yeah.
00:39:39The possible handball.
00:39:41Yeah, I can see why Forest fans would be upset,
00:39:43because it clearly makes contact with his arm.
00:39:48It could be given, I don't think that he's...
00:39:51You can see where the referee is, he's got a clear view of it,
00:39:54he's right on top of it, and he instantly waves his hand and says no,
00:39:58so we have to go with what the ref says on that one, I think.
00:40:01But I can see why they feel agreed.
00:40:03Yeah, I see.
00:40:03Manchester United dominated possession today,
00:40:06but that hasn't been the trend for them of late,
00:40:08when they've been picking up good results.
00:40:10No, a large part of what they've been doing and been successful
00:40:13over the last few weeks is that when they've been kicking along,
00:40:16they've been more direct, they've been picking up more second balls,
00:40:19but on the other side, they've not had so much possession,
00:40:22but they've been winning games, and you can see this stat there.
00:40:25I mean, against Brighton, it was 43%.
00:40:27Against Liverpool, it was 36%.
00:40:29But today, they had 59% possession and didn't do too much with that ball,
00:40:35so that's the improvement that they've got to make
00:40:37in terms of getting results and playing better
00:40:39when they've got the ball.
00:40:41So for the second week running, Forrest feel they've been hard done by
00:40:45with a decision here where, of course, there was a corner,
00:40:48and they feel it shouldn't have been,
00:40:50and the ball wasn't clearly out of play.
00:40:54Well, Shaun Dyche's got a point.
00:40:55I mean, I'm not sure how the assistant over at the far side
00:40:58can actually see that far and be absolutely certain that that ball is out,
00:41:02because it isn't.
00:41:02It was nearly 70 yards away, so you can't be certain,
00:41:05because, well, it isn't, the ball isn't out.
00:41:06But I agree with Shaun and understand his frustration and his anger,
00:41:11but I wouldn't say that we'd like to get VAR in that involved,
00:41:14because the game's stopping and starting as it is.
00:41:17I know he says it'll only take four or five seconds,
00:41:19but, no, I wouldn't encourage that,
00:41:22but I would encourage the officials to do their job properly
00:41:26and get it right.
00:41:27Not guess, because he's guessed there and he's got it wrong.
00:41:29Yeah, and it's not out, is it?
00:41:31The disappointing thing for Shaun Dyche, from my point of view,
00:41:33anyways, once that's given, you can see the Forest players' reaction
00:41:37when the goal goes in.
00:41:38They don't defend it very well and then they all chase down the referee,
00:41:41so the disappointing thing is, yes, you're disappointed that it hasn't gone out
00:41:44and it hasn't gone out, it shouldn't be a corner,
00:41:45but once a corner's given, defend it better.
00:41:47OK, bottom of the table, Wolves were hunting a first win of the season at Fulham,
00:41:52who'd lost their last four. Chris Wise was at Craven Cottage.
00:41:56Not a club in crisis, but a crisis of results.
00:42:00That's Vitor Pereira's assessment of Wolves' current predicaments.
00:42:03The message is that the club are continuing to back their head coach,
00:42:07but if Wolves lose today, it's going to be less of a gap to safety and more of a chasm.
00:42:13Marco Silva's team are one of those in Wolves' eyeline, they're 17th,
00:42:17but with a squad that has a much more senior feel to it today.
00:42:20Four changes from the defeat at Newcastle, including the return of Joachim Anderson
00:42:25and a first-league start for Kevin.
00:42:27Vitor Pereira has reinstated Emmanuel Agbedou and Totti Gomez to his side
00:42:32to try to end this horrible Wolves run.
00:42:34Vitor Pereira says he believes this group of players will change this situation for Wolves,
00:42:46and they really do need change.
00:42:49But they're in trouble, because this is Jimenez feeding it through,
00:42:52and Fulham have the goal from Sessegnon.
00:42:56Wolves unlocks inside nine minutes, and it is all too easy.
00:43:04And Ryan Sessegnon, who is a relatively regular contributor to Fulham goals,
00:43:09even from that left-back position.
00:43:13Bursts through, look at the room he's got.
00:43:15Time to set himself.
00:43:17Maybe not the cleanest finish, but enough power to get it underneath Sam Johnston.
00:43:22And with the Wolves in trouble in West London already.
00:43:28Marco Silva talking this week about Fulham starting fast,
00:43:31engaging with the home supporters with their play today.
00:43:36So he'll be very content with what his team have served up so far.
00:43:41Tete.
00:43:43The movement from Josh King.
00:43:45Agbedou, has he caught him? He has.
00:43:47Now what is the decision going to be?
00:43:49Agbedou's in trouble. He's in big trouble.
00:43:53The Wolves centre-half is sent off.
00:43:55Is King in on goal? I think you have to say he probably is.
00:44:02No contact on the ball, some contact on Fulham's teenager.
00:44:06The question is whether Josh King has used his arm to bring that ball down.
00:44:16So that's what VAR Andrew Madley is looking at.
00:44:23And they are happy that that is not the use of the arm from Josh King.
00:44:27So Agbedou will walk.
00:44:30The game is not going Vitor Pereira's way right now.
00:44:35Glum faces in that Wolves away end.
00:44:39Well, technically, it's 13 games without Wolves winning the Premier League.
00:44:43They didn't get victories in any of their final four matches of last season either.
00:44:49Wobi.
00:44:51He left a bid on him there.
00:44:52Berger's giving it to Tete.
00:44:54Tete's urged to shoot, and he did.
00:44:58That's Sam Johnston flying.
00:45:00To go all the way back to December 2023 for the last Kenny Tete Premier League goal.
00:45:06That was against Liverpool.
00:45:08That one was going in.
00:45:10They've got a few points they want to get across the Wolves fans.
00:45:13Now Raul Jimenez again.
00:45:26And with a bit more room this time.
00:45:27Jimenez, Sander Berger.
00:45:31And beautifully dispatched by Harry Wilson.
00:45:38What a classy finish that is.
00:45:40Raul Jimenez just like he was in the first half central to this one too.
00:45:49The more you watch that, you realise that it is a truly excellent finish from Harry Wilson.
00:45:54And the more chance if we want Fosun out, ringing out in the away end.
00:46:06And Fulham moving at speed up to the edge of Wolves' penalty area with Wilson.
00:46:10That was nearly another for him.
00:46:14Keeping Sam Johnston honest in the second half.
00:46:16Fulham very much enjoys a spectacular goal.
00:46:20Harry Wilson, we've seen that already.
00:46:21In many, many ways Wolves do not have much of a pace for the defence today.
00:46:28That was short from Emile Smith-Rowe.
00:46:30So Kearney was on the stretch.
00:46:31He got enough of the ball.
00:46:33Smith-Rowe out towards Iwobi.
00:46:38Chu has put himself in a defensive position.
00:46:41Iwobi with support from Sessignon.
00:46:43It's 3-0.
00:46:46What a woeful afternoon this is for Wolves.
00:46:50Hits on the counter attack by Fulham.
00:46:54And on an afternoon where they've conceded three, they've had a man sent off.
00:46:59And one of their own has put one into his own net.
00:47:02Sessignon's appetite to get forward that caused the issue.
00:47:13Now there are Wolves fans chanting to Vito Pereira that you are getting sacked in the morning.
00:47:18Smith-Rowe has largely been used off the bench, Smith-Rowe, this season for Fulham.
00:47:27Iwobi reaching the ball ahead of Mosquera.
00:47:30Smith-Rowe.
00:47:31Oh, up the post from Chikwese and Kearney.
00:47:36It's a corner, it should have been a full Fulham goal.
00:47:39I don't really know how Chikwese's missed.
00:47:42Chikwese from six yards out has clobbered the crossbar rather than the back of Sam Johnston's net.
00:47:49And there's the full-time whistle.
00:47:51And the boos are loud from the Wolves supporters.
00:47:57There it is, you're getting sacked in the morning.
00:48:00Fulham three, Wolves nil.
00:48:05Ryan, congratulations, you have your goal and Fulham at long last have their win.
00:48:10Yeah, finally, we've been pretty disappointed with the way the results have been going the last
00:48:14three, four games. And we knew today was a big, big game. We had to make a statement today. I'm
00:48:19happy that we got three goals and a clean sheet.
00:48:22A very important one for us back home. You want to make this place our fortress really,
00:48:27and we won again. And it's very important to the clean sheet. It's normal. The team,
00:48:32the players, of course, it was very important for us to win. Second half was better and because
00:48:37that we controlled much better the game and we didn't give any chance for them like we should.
00:48:42And we scored two goals and we had some more good chances.
00:48:44What's your assessment of today's performance?
00:48:48Maybe the worst performance from my team. Maybe the worst. Technically, tactically,
00:48:56physically. Eleven against eleven was a mistake and we considered a goal. But after with Red
00:49:06care, it was very difficult. We should be embarrassed and, you know, they might not want to hear it but
00:49:13we obviously apologise to the fans. We're trying our best but, you know, we have to keep going and
00:49:19we've got good players and we need to turn it around quickly. The fans were very angry at full time.
00:49:26How does that make you feel, Vito, when you're hearing them saying you're going to get sacked tomorrow?
00:49:30I'm not worried about myself. I'm worried about my team. What we showed today, we need to talk about it
00:49:39because I cannot accept this, what we did today.
00:49:44Well, Vito Pereira scathing about his side but it is a big win for Marco Silva and Fulham. They're first
00:49:51in five and you want to focus on Alex Iwobi's performance in that today.
00:49:55Yeah, really impressive today. He played in a deeper role than normal, right next to Sander Berg
00:50:00and I think it worked brilliantly. You can see him here in the build-up play. He's a lot deeper
00:50:05than he usually is but because he's so good and he's in such good form, today he was starting off
00:50:11attacks for Fulham which was interesting because normally we see him higher up the pitch. Here he's
00:50:15taking Crecci out to the left back position almost which he doesn't actually touch the ball here but it
00:50:22just opens up that lane for Fulham to get in and they get their goal. But that kind of movement,
00:50:30we see here again just taking Crecci to the side, not being in the middle of the pitch and as we
00:50:37as we see here they've dragged the whole of the Wolves team over and that's all because of Iwobi's
00:50:43movement and then that allows Fulham to get out the other side. At half time then he moves to the
00:50:48the usual left wing position where we see him and I just think he's so impressive because he's so fit,
00:50:54so energetic, so fast, he can carry the ball, he can run without the ball, a little bit of patience,
00:51:00plays the right pass, ends up in the back of the net again. So for me I just think his evolution
00:51:07as a player, Alex Iwobi has been so interesting, impressive to see him, how he's matured into that.
00:51:13He can now play in that deeper midfield position and do it so well. Let's get into Wolves then
00:51:18because Sam Johnson said embarrassed there and no team has made more mistakes leading to goals than
00:51:24Wolves this season. They've lost, not going to win in their first 10 for the second season running.
00:51:29Well the manager said it, didn't he, in his words after the game, everything about their game today
00:51:35was shambolic, it really was. They were all over the place and the worrying part is they've been beaten
00:51:42by the three promoted teams. Fulham was 17th today but it's not just about being beaten, it's the way
00:51:48they're being beaten and how easy it is for other teams to score against them and yeah they're in an
00:51:54awful position and you really have to fear for them. Two games on Sunday's Match of the Day.
00:51:59The one off, that's an absolutely stunning goal. The chance to score the winner, the pressure pays.
00:52:12There he is, Erling Haaland, Kruppi with the goal. Second in the Premier League table.
00:52:22Five Live Premier League Sunday will be across the action from midday, listen on BBC Sounds.
00:52:27Eastleigh take on Walsall in the FA Cup first round Sunday, BBC Two and iPlayer at two o'clock.
00:52:33Watch all the goals from the Champions League on Wednesday from ten o'clock on the BBC Sport
00:52:37website and 10.40 on BBC One and if you missed the start of the show it's available now on iPlayer
00:52:43along with highlights of every match. A London derby next. No away team had won more games at the
00:52:50Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Chelsea. Commentary comes from Jonathan Pearce.
00:52:53Contrasting fortunes in the midweek League Cup ties and in the Premier League of late. Spurs make two
00:53:01changes to the side that won in the league at Everton. Bergwahl gets his first league start since
00:53:05September and Saar also returns. Johnson and Simmonds go to the bench as they look for only a
00:53:10second league victory over Chelsea in 14 meetings. The Blues give Wesley Fofana only a 30th league game
00:53:16in three injury hit years at the club with Achenpong rotating the bench as they make two changes from
00:53:22league defeat at home to Sunderland with Malo Gusto replacing Mark Yu. Rhys James has pushed into
00:53:26midfield with the Charles Pedro who missed the league cup win at Wolves in the week leads the attack.
00:53:31Liam de Lap of course is suspended.
00:53:34He lost just two of his eight Premier League games as a manager against Chelsea, Thomas Frank.
00:53:40All three of his victories have come at Stamford Bridge though he's not won a home league game
00:53:45against the Blues.
00:53:46Charles Pedro just rolled his foot on the ball, no free kick.
00:53:54And he's scalloped back, won it back and was fouled.
00:53:59Just got caught by Pabasar.
00:54:02It is a London derby where tackles are meant. Bergwahl got one right on the side of his head there.
00:54:11Just checking here there's no concussion, referee's doing the right thing.
00:54:14He looks very groggy doesn't it?
00:54:17The referee's explaining to him he has to do what the medical staff say.
00:54:22All the best laid plans, etc, etc.
00:54:26And Xavi Simons will get a quick recall.
00:54:29And the start of the afternoon on the bench.
00:54:38Well that's bounced kindly here, but Charles Pedro a big chance.
00:54:41Vicaria rescues Tottenham-Oxport.
00:54:49First big chance of the game.
00:54:52He's lacking confidence in on goal, Pedro.
00:54:57He's done so.
00:54:57And that's got the crowd going at last.
00:55:03Saar.
00:55:05He's kudos.
00:55:07Oh, it's all the shot.
00:55:09Suddenly the game has come to life.
00:55:13Wasn't a good clearance by Porro.
00:55:16Fell kindly for Charles Pedro.
00:55:17Jimmy Greaves scored 398 goals for Chelsea in Tottenham.
00:55:25That was not a Jimmy Greaves finish.
00:55:29Garnaccio lots of space.
00:55:31Porro's gone in too tight into the middle.
00:55:33He was helped out there by Kudis, though.
00:55:35He defended astutely for Tottenham.
00:55:38The trouble is they have no out-ball through the middle up front.
00:55:44Pernamuani wants to go out wider to the right.
00:55:51They've made another mistake here.
00:55:53Tottenham-Cosedo's through.
00:55:54Must be this time, Charles Pedro.
00:55:55And is.
00:55:57And Chelsea are ahead, and deservedly so, I think.
00:56:03Tottenham, too many mistakes at the back so far.
00:56:06He missed the first opportunity to punish them.
00:56:09But not the second.
00:56:11Spence wanted to do too much on it.
00:56:13Got caught in possession by Quesada.
00:56:16In van der Venn.
00:56:17And Simmonds had a chance to get away.
00:56:19Wretched ball back by Simmonds.
00:56:21Quesada was in there to backle to win.
00:56:23And Charles Pedro scored.
00:56:25One mistake here by Tottenham.
00:56:28Another mistake there by Spurs.
00:56:30Another mistake there by Spurs.
00:56:35And rattled home for his sixth for Chelsea, including the Club World Cup.
00:56:44In light for Enzo Mareska.
00:56:50James to Neto.
00:56:51Is onside, Tottenham a hesitant sluggish.
00:56:56In it comes, great effort, brilliant save.
00:57:00What a superb save to the night.
00:57:02Charles Pedro a second.
00:57:04Crisp cross.
00:57:05Net first time, lovely effort, super save.
00:57:08Charles Pedro unlucky.
00:57:14This is Chaliver.
00:57:17There was a dangerous ball played in there.
00:57:19When James was caught.
00:57:21And Ben Tanker here getting involved with an angry Fofana.
00:57:29Oh, it's not a good challenge by Ben Tanker.
00:57:33Yellow card.
00:57:34James thinks it should have been red.
00:57:38It was a reckless challenge, was it?
00:57:43Deemed to not have excessive force, though.
00:57:47And it bounced away here of Golo Mouane, it does.
00:57:58A little set-up to Papsar, one more to Kudus.
00:58:02Tried to plant it.
00:58:04Sanchez had to stretch.
00:58:06He went for placement.
00:58:08That's a decent save by Sanchez.
00:58:11Spurs' best move of the game.
00:58:16Pedro Neto.
00:58:22James, delicate chip, enter Fernandes.
00:58:27And it flies over, it's an opportunity here for Chelsea to get a two-goal buffer.
00:58:36Poor touch by Johnson.
00:58:40Staggering to think that Tottenham on this display came into this game third in the table.
00:58:45They have been well short.
00:58:46Jamie Gittins.
00:58:47Enzo Fernandes could have hit the strike.
00:58:50Here's Neto.
00:58:52Harry but back into a dangerous position by the goalkeeper.
00:58:54He's the cleverest of saves.
00:58:56James!
00:58:58They have created far more opportunities than Spurs.
00:59:02Gittins, clever ball in, little touch on by Charles Pedro.
00:59:05Fernandes could have hit it, Neto did.
00:59:09And then Spurs again really failing to get the ball away cleanly, and James over the top.
00:59:15Second minute of stoppage time.
00:59:17Chelsea again, a high defensive line of ten.
00:59:22This time slightly deeper, 12 yards outside the penalty area.
00:59:26He's played short.
00:59:27Chelsea can now come out.
00:59:34Tottenham fans booing.
00:59:36That's all the way through to Robertson.
00:59:38Listen to the Spurs fans.
00:59:40They are hating this.
00:59:45That's a lovely ball in.
00:59:47There's a chance for Charles Pedro to make it safe.
00:59:50Oh!
00:59:51And Gittins balloons it.
00:59:54Estaval, head up, sensible ball to Charles Pedro.
00:59:59Heavy touch, so he couldn't get the shot away.
01:00:01And Gittins probably wishes he hadn't got the shot away.
01:00:06That's a horrible finish.
01:00:10How many chances do they need to put this game to bed?
01:00:13Here's Estaval.
01:00:16Take on Saar, that's a mismatch.
01:00:18Enter Fernandes, Charles Pedro!
01:00:21Good save by Vicario.
01:00:22In terms of attacking football, there's been one team in it.
01:00:27And that's the team in blue.
01:00:31And Chelsea, five wins in a row against Spurs,
01:00:35who cannot get any success at home.
01:00:38Tottenham didn't muster a single effort on target in the second half.
01:00:42And just one in the entire game.
01:00:45Tottenham nil, Chelsea one.
01:00:48The performance was very good.
01:00:49I'm very happy, first of all, for the players,
01:00:52because we needed a reaction after the Sunderland game,
01:00:57for the fans, because it's a derby, it's a huge game.
01:01:00And also for the clean sheet, because we need to be defensively solid.
01:01:04We were definitely the second best today.
01:01:05Chelsea were better than us on the day.
01:01:08No doubt about that.
01:01:09We made so many, how can you say, simple passing mistakes
01:01:13and lost the ball too many times.
01:01:15A little bit, there could be many things.
01:01:17There could be performance on the day, there could be freshness,
01:01:19there could be decision-making and that we didn't have.
01:01:22What's your message now that you've won another away game?
01:01:25You're having a terrific season away.
01:01:26Yeah, exactly.
01:01:27In the last seven games, we won six and we lost one.
01:01:30So I think we are in the right path.
01:01:33But after Sunderland, we move on.
01:01:37And after today, we move on and continue.
01:01:39In three days, we have another game.
01:01:41In one week, another game.
01:01:42We don't stop.
01:01:42Chelsea's very good away form continues and Tottenham's poor home form continues.
01:01:48But Chelsea smothered them today.
01:01:50That's exactly what Chelsea did to Tottenham.
01:01:52They didn't allow them to play at all.
01:01:54Their midfield dominated.
01:01:56And again, the brilliant Caicedo, who I thought ran the show, was everywhere, was getting stuck
01:02:04in, winning tackles.
01:02:05But there's nowhere to go.
01:02:06Wherever Tottenham went, they had a player or two of Chelsea around them and stopping them from playing.
01:02:13And they really were excellent, the energy that Chelsea brought to the game, the way they stopped
01:02:18Tottenham playing and forcing them to do that mistake after mistake after mistake.
01:02:23Again, they run into Caicedo.
01:02:25They have a chance to clear it here, but no, there's no options.
01:02:28There's just no options at all for Tottenham.
01:02:31And they got caught on the ball so many times.
01:02:34And on that occasion, they were punished.
01:02:37It can go long, but they choose not to.
01:02:39But look, what options are they?
01:02:41Look at the four up front there.
01:02:42What are they going to do?
01:02:43How are they going to be found?
01:02:44They can't.
01:02:45So they try to play out.
01:02:46They get caught on the ball once again.
01:02:48It's a constant theme throughout the game.
01:02:50I mean, Chelsea should have won by three or four.
01:02:53And then out of desperation, look what happens here later on in the game.
01:02:57Goalkeeper goes straight through to the goalkeeper again.
01:03:00And then look at the state of Tottenham.
01:03:02Look how open they are.
01:03:03I mean, they really were awful, Tottenham Hotspur.
01:03:06Great credit to Chelsea.
01:03:08They made it very comfortable for themselves,
01:03:10albeit just with that one goal and Gittins skies it over.
01:03:15But it should have been three or four.
01:03:16And, yeah, it was a poor day for him and for Tottenham.
01:03:19And, Ashley, a lot of noise around about Bentica's challenge on Rhys James.
01:03:23What did you make of it?
01:03:25I'm happy that the referee, Jared Gillett, had a clear view of it.
01:03:29And he gave a yellow card.
01:03:30I'd agree.
01:03:30I think it's reckless, but not serious foul play.
01:03:34So it's definitely a foul.
01:03:36It's, as I say, it's reckless and it's a yellow card for me.
01:03:40The referee, we can see there, clearly can see he's got a good view straight on of it.
01:03:45And, yeah, it's a bad tackle, but it's not a red card, I think.
01:03:48If the referee decides that that's the yellow card, I can go with him.
01:03:52And then fans in the stadium, obviously, clearly could see this.
01:03:54And we're going to see an angle of this that's been kind of amplified a bit on social media,
01:03:59where Thomas Frank is encouraging Jed Spence and Mickey van der Ven to go and say thank you,
01:04:04or, you know, applaud the fans, as is the way quite often with matches these days.
01:04:09And they've said no, they're going straight in.
01:04:10What do you make of that?
01:04:11I totally get and understand why the players want to get in as soon as possible.
01:04:15They've been an embarrassment today.
01:04:16They've been booed off the pitch.
01:04:17Why?
01:04:18I get they just don't want to go out.
01:04:20They want to get off the pitch and they want to go in the dressing room and then say their sorry's later on.
01:04:24But I get it and understand it.
01:04:26As much as Thomas Frank likes to go around and thank the fans and clap to fans,
01:04:30I get the players' point of view that they've been absolutely awful today
01:04:33and they want to get off the pitch as quick as possible.
01:04:35Actually, he said it was a small issue, Frank.
01:04:37Yeah, I don't think it.
01:04:38I personally don't think it's a bit.
01:04:40I'm with you, Alan.
01:04:41I think just play better.
01:04:42That's that's the main thing.
01:04:43You've already played bad in a derby.
01:04:46You want to get back in the dressing room.
01:04:47You're frustrated.
01:04:48They're frustrated.
01:04:49It's not that's nothing personal against the manager or the fans.
01:04:51They just want to get inside.
01:04:52Yeah.
01:04:53Okay.
01:04:54Brighton hadn't conceded a goal in their last seven meetings with Leeds United at the Amex Stadium,
01:04:58going back over 13 years.
01:05:00Simon Brotherton, watch this one.
01:05:01Certainly a tricky trip for Leeds in recent times.
01:05:06The last time they won away at Brighton was 16 years ago,
01:05:09when the hosts were at the Withdean Stadium and both sides were in League One.
01:05:13Brighton make one change from last weekend's defeat at Old Trafford with Diego Gomez starting and
01:05:18Maxim Di Kaipo moving to the bench.
01:05:20Danny Welbeck scored both in the last home game to beat Newcastle and has five Premier League goals
01:05:26already.
01:05:27Leeds are unchanged as they look to follow up home success against West Ham by winning consecutive
01:05:32games for the first time this season.
01:05:34Slovenian international Jakar Bjel made his Premier League debut last time out.
01:05:38He starts again today, while USA international Brendan Aronsson scored his first goal of the campaign.
01:05:46Brighton Ovalvian with three wins so far this season.
01:05:48Pretty good ones though, beating Manchester City and Newcastle here both by two goals to one and
01:05:543-1 winners away to Chelsea and a bit unstuck at Old Trafford last week.
01:05:594-2 beaten by Manchester United but now Ayari takes it away from Ampadu and brings the save for Lucas Perry.
01:06:09Just got away from Ampadu and Ayari saw the chance to get a shot in but never really got hold of it.
01:06:15Minta away from Goodmanson.
01:06:23Lovely little playing to Matz-Nikvar, here's a chance, there's a goal, first chance of the game
01:06:29and Brighton Ovalvian are ahead and it's Danny Welbeck once again.
01:06:34Six Premier League goals already this season for Welbeck.
01:06:37He scored both in the last home match to see off Newcastle, he scored the first this afternoon.
01:06:46Minta, delicate touch, FIFA, Welbeck in the right place to sweep it home and Danny Welbeck's rich vein
01:06:56of form in front of goal continues.
01:07:02Suddenly the clouds have appeared and the heavens have opened.
01:07:09Tanaka.
01:07:11This is Okafor, Van Hecke is there first, collected here by Welbeck, chance to shoot!
01:07:19Dis-effort from Welbeck.
01:07:23Brighton's searching for a second goal.
01:07:26Brighton with a chance to break and Yankuba Minta has got Rutter up alongside him if he needs it.
01:07:42It's still Minta!
01:07:44It's Joshua!
01:07:47And Rutter stands there and looks at him as if to say, well why didn't you pass to me?
01:07:50But Yankuba Minta only had one thing on his mind here.
01:07:56Bial picking out Calvert-Lewin.
01:08:04Held up by Mats Vipa.
01:08:09Collected by Yankuba Minta.
01:08:10Calvert-Lewin has it back, able to get the shot in, it wasn't far wide of the post.
01:08:18At times Brighton's lead does look a rather precarious one.
01:08:21Van Hecke.
01:08:22Van Hecke.
01:08:29Welcome to set Yankuba Minta on his way.
01:08:32Teammates arriving, Yankuba Minta, searing burst of pace, there's a chance of his second goal.
01:08:40Diego Gomez, who was absolutely in the right place at the right time.
01:08:47It was created by Yankuba Minta, who had a big part to play in the opening goal as well.
01:08:55And now, away from Goodmanson, the Paraguayan international, finding the back of the net in the Premier League to go with the Carabao cut goals he scored earlier in the season.
01:09:06Rutter will chase, third favourite.
01:09:22Rutter getting in ahead of Jadon Bogle, and Welbeck in the thick of it too, and Bogle's made a mistake, it's Jorginho Rutter.
01:09:30And still, it's goal number three.
01:09:37Gomez at the double, just past the midway point of the second half.
01:09:42It's hard to see a route back for Leeds United now.
01:09:46Two goals in six minutes or so in the second half here.
01:09:50And Diego Gomez again, loitering with intent inside the penalty area for his second of the match.
01:09:57Brighton's third, Rutter did a lot of the hard work here.
01:10:02There's Brighton three, Leeds United nil.
01:10:05Here comes Kadioglu, into Baleba.
01:10:10Free kick.
01:10:13Pressure on Lucas Perry's goal coming up.
01:10:18And it comes.
01:10:21Gomez on a hat-trick, brings the save, Yasin Ayari.
01:10:25Leeds really at full stretch there to keep the ball out, to avoid conceding a fourth, but they manage it.
01:10:39Simas, cracking pass.
01:10:42Watson collects, the two subs trying to combine.
01:10:44Simas still keeps it alive.
01:10:47Leeds United really stretched at the back.
01:10:49And Yari brings an excellent save from Perry.
01:10:55Kirk Brighton really threatening a fourth here.
01:10:57And it was the two subs who'd just come onto the pitch, causing all the mayhem in the Leeds penalty area.
01:11:02And the final shot, beaten away.
01:11:04Leeds are staying down, caught in the tackle.
01:11:15And Lucas Mecha now, for Leeds, looks to at least get them on the board.
01:11:19Saved by Verbruggen.
01:11:22Pressure still on.
01:11:24Stack.
01:11:25Good play.
01:11:26And Verbruggen standing strong at his near post.
01:11:32Still need to have a score to go away at Brighton in the Premier League.
01:11:37Haven't beaten Brighton away from home for 16 years.
01:11:43Yes, it's not that we have to overanalyze this game.
01:11:46They were the better side today.
01:11:47They deserve to win.
01:11:48And for that, congratulations to Brighton.
01:11:50It's a fact, in the end, it was probably 50-50 possession.
01:11:53And we had seven to four corners.
01:11:56But they were way more creative out of their possession, out of their corners.
01:12:00And created more situations.
01:12:01And were also more clinical.
01:12:03And for that, they deserve to win the game today.
01:12:04Yeah, I think overall it was a good performance from the start.
01:12:08I think especially the first 20 minutes.
01:12:11Then we lost a little bit of control.
01:12:13But in the second half, we got it back.
01:12:16We kept the clean sheet.
01:12:17That was important for us.
01:12:18We scored some good goals.
01:12:20We created a lot of chances.
01:12:21So, overall, I was happy.
01:12:24And now it's really about getting this consistency into our results.
01:12:29Yeah, they've got great home form.
01:12:31And two goals for Diego Gomez.
01:12:33But it is the Englishman, Danny Welbeck, we are going to talk about.
01:12:36Because he is currently the top English player who is an out-and-out goalscorer.
01:12:44Actually, some of these aren't out-and-out goalscores, obviously, aren't centre-forwards.
01:12:47But in the Premier League at the moment.
01:12:49He's 35 later this month.
01:12:51Thomas Tuchel's about to announce another England squad this week.
01:12:54Is he a potential backup for Harry Kane?
01:12:56Oh, absolutely.
01:12:57Because of his form.
01:12:59Because of his goals.
01:13:02He's only been into double figures once in his career.
01:13:06And that was last season.
01:13:07So, there's no doubt about it that he seems to be getting better.
01:13:12I was just about to say the manager has probably said to him,
01:13:15you stay between the 18-yard box.
01:13:17You'll get your goals.
01:13:18There's no doubt about it.
01:13:19And you keep going.
01:13:20But some of these clips, when you see them in a minute,
01:13:22about him working hard and the running that he's putting in,
01:13:25the tracking back that he's actually doing.
01:13:27This part here, look.
01:13:28This is him getting back into his own box to try and defend.
01:13:31And then when all of a sudden they win the ball,
01:13:33just have a look at him, the way he's off.
01:13:36And, of course, England are not exactly blessed with numbers
01:13:39in that centre-forward position.
01:13:40So, absolutely, he deserves it
01:13:44if he does manage to get into the England squad.
01:13:49But, yeah, again, he helps set up the third goal
01:13:53with his work rate, with his closing down.
01:13:56And he's having a fabulous season.
01:13:57He really is.
01:13:58As I said, he is getting better.
01:14:00And there's no doubt that it's correct.
01:14:02There is talk about him being in the squad.
01:14:04A great professional.
01:14:05People seem to really like being around him.
01:14:07He's played in two World Cup squads before.
01:14:09You've played against him, Andrew.
01:14:11Yeah, I've played against him a few times.
01:14:12He was always tough to play against.
01:14:14Very powerful, strong, good runner.
01:14:17But, as you said, he just seems to be getting better with age.
01:14:21And, you know, regarding the England squad,
01:14:23I think he'd be a brilliant person to have around the camp.
01:14:25And sometimes you don't need, you know, a squad full of starters.
01:14:28You need good personalities in the squad
01:14:30that are happy to not start and come off the bench.
01:14:33And, of course, Thomas Tuchel's not bothered about the future.
01:14:36He's a bother about six weeks in the World Cup.
01:14:38That's all he's interested in.
01:14:39OK.
01:14:40No two teams had used more long throws this season
01:14:43than Crystal Palace and Brentford.
01:14:45James Fildon was at Selhurl Park.
01:14:48Keith Andrews says long throw criticism is snobbery.
01:14:53But success has always been about playing to your strengths.
01:14:55And these two teams are yielding the results of that
01:14:58with their best starts point-wise in five years.
01:15:01Palace played the same team
01:15:02for all three Premier League games in October.
01:15:05But one changed today with Jefferson Lerman making his second start.
01:15:08Adam Wharton is still out due to illness.
01:15:10Keith Andrews sticks with the same side
01:15:12that won against Liverpool last week.
01:15:13Only Erling Haaland has scored more than striker Igor Thiago,
01:15:17who himself is one of three to have netted more than Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta.
01:15:21Two of the league's leading marksmen going head-to-head here in South London.
01:15:26Brentford the winners on each of the last two meetings of these two sides.
01:15:30They did the double against them last season,
01:15:32winning both games by two goals to one.
01:15:36Saar has an opportunity to get in behind here.
01:15:39Palace have five forward.
01:15:41It's Maynus Saar across.
01:15:43And it was cut out before it reached Jeremy Pino.
01:15:47Lerma.
01:15:48Coyote gives it a whack.
01:15:51Well, Crystal Palace should have done far better in that situation.
01:15:54So the error by Vandenberghe.
01:15:56Palace suddenly had five forward here.
01:15:59It was a poor choice with Collins there to intercept.
01:16:03Much-needed win for Oliver Glasner on Wednesday.
01:16:06Three-nil winners at Liverpool.
01:16:07That after a run of three defeats in four in all competitions.
01:16:10Punches off the shins there of Wattara.
01:16:14Kamada.
01:16:15Mateta in between the lines.
01:16:18Pino.
01:16:20Brentford have a man down.
01:16:22Munoz coming in.
01:16:23So too Mateta.
01:16:24Homesdale then claiming handball, but the referee, Peter Banks, doesn't even react.
01:16:31Let's have another look.
01:16:32Might have been in a raised position there by Jamajuk, but no further action from the VAR.
01:16:39Certainly a very open game here at Selhurst Park, but low on clear-cut chances.
01:16:43That might be about to change because here's Mitchell.
01:16:47Kamada.
01:16:49Daichi Kamada.
01:16:51Just curling away from goal.
01:16:54Hasn't scored yet in the Premier League for Crystal Palace.
01:16:57Hasn't scored now for over a year.
01:17:01Always going away from the target.
01:17:05Lerma.
01:17:05Neat and tidy from Palace, who have Geyi coming forward.
01:17:10Toppled by Damska.
01:17:16Two arms up from Spain international.
01:17:18Yenemi Pino.
01:17:20Pino high.
01:17:22Locked in towards Mateta!
01:17:23Well, as they say around these parts, there ain't no striker better than Jean-Philippe Mateta.
01:17:34And exactly the kind of service he wanted there.
01:17:38A hat-trick here against Bournemouth in his last home league game.
01:17:42And he's off and running this afternoon.
01:17:45What a header that was.
01:17:46Lupin Pion Keneha.
01:17:48Swivelled, spun.
01:17:51And bounced it off the top of his head into that far corner.
01:17:55You won't see a better header this weekend.
01:18:00Munoz.
01:18:06And that's the Sarr.
01:18:09And that wasn't far away.
01:18:12Nearly another there for Crystal Palace.
01:18:15Drop for Sarr.
01:18:16Nice take on the chest.
01:18:19Just couldn't squeeze it the other side of the post.
01:18:26Palace trying the little triangle, but this time they might go a little longer.
01:18:35Jefferson Lerma with the long throw.
01:18:38In it goes.
01:18:38Off the head of Collins and in!
01:18:4120, 25, 26.
01:18:46The season of the long throw.
01:18:49And Brentford, who've been the masters of them for such a long time now.
01:18:53Undone by one defensively.
01:18:56Lerma put plenty of height on it.
01:18:59And there was the tiniest of flicks backwards.
01:19:01Off the head of Nathan Collins.
01:19:04Collins, a scorer in the week at Brundle Park against Grimsby.
01:19:07But he's put one into his own net here.
01:19:13Oh, given away by Collins, who's having a bit of a nightmare out there now.
01:19:17And Sarr in for three!
01:19:18Off the post!
01:19:20And the tether can't get there in time.
01:19:22Brentford at sixes and sevens defensively.
01:19:25Well, Collins there, so relaxed on the ball.
01:19:29Sarr pinched it off it.
01:19:31Back it came off the upright.
01:19:34It's dark.
01:19:35It's gloomy.
01:19:36It's South London.
01:19:38And Crystal Palace enjoying their afternoon now.
01:19:40Two goals to the good.
01:19:43Brentford have a throw.
01:19:45After Palace scored from their own throw a couple of minutes ago.
01:19:49It's Brentford's turn here to have a go.
01:19:51But Coyote goes short instead.
01:19:53Yarmouyuk.
01:19:54Henderson delivers.
01:19:56Ayer round the back.
01:19:58That is Brentford's first shot on target.
01:20:00With 57 and a half minutes gone.
01:20:09Ayer going in strongly.
01:20:10Fair challenge.
01:20:11Nelson.
01:20:15Lewis Potter.
01:20:17The two subs combining.
01:20:19Reece Nelson.
01:20:20Looking to Ben 1.
01:20:21Great save by Henderson.
01:20:24And that's as much as the Palace goalkeeper has had to do this afternoon.
01:20:30Lewis Potter just cushioning it back there to Nelson.
01:20:33Whose effort wasn't quite going in the corner.
01:20:36Disappointing afternoon for Keith Andrews' side.
01:20:38Have never really been in it.
01:20:40Honestly, superior side in this one.
01:20:44Top win.
01:20:45I think we were already happy because we knew that it was going to be a hard game.
01:20:49But I think we showed that we were also good in set pieces.
01:20:52We spoke about that before.
01:20:54And I think it's a really good three-point today.
01:20:57Naturally, players aren't robots.
01:20:58Players will make mistakes.
01:21:00I think there were elements of the first half that I wasn't bowled over with.
01:21:03Some scrappy bits where I thought we could have done a little bit better.
01:21:06We could have secured possession better than we had.
01:21:09But I think the players overall, over the last few weeks, have been outstanding.
01:21:12That's our second half.
01:21:14Really good character.
01:21:15Tried to break them down.
01:21:16Just couldn't quite find that little bit of magic, little bit of quality.
01:21:20And they've seen the game out.
01:21:21Great win.
01:21:22A very important win.
01:21:23And the game was exactly how we expected it.
01:21:25And I think I spoke about it before the game.
01:21:28It could be a set-play battle.
01:21:30And we're really pleased that we could win this set-play battle.
01:21:34I told Jeff Lerma three or four days ago that he would start against Brentford because we
01:21:38were going to meet him, especially in set plays.
01:21:40And he won the header on the far post.
01:21:42And great goal.
01:21:43And the other second, we were a little bit lucky with the arm goal.
01:21:45But on the other side, we caused chaos in their box.
01:21:48And we got the reward today.
01:21:49Yeah, Oliver Glasner rightly quite chuffed there that this set-piece battle he'd foreseen,
01:21:53his assistants had foreseen.
01:21:55You know, they edged it.
01:21:56Yeah, and he called it, obviously, because he brought Jefferson Lerma into the team.
01:21:59This is Coyote's long throw that's caused so much damage all season.
01:22:03And Lerma gets contact, first contact with that one.
01:22:07It's Coyote again with the long throw.
01:22:08Crystal Palace and Richards deal with it and win the second ball.
01:22:12Now, this is attacking.
01:22:13This is a great leap from that man again, Lerma again.
01:22:15And what a goal this is from Matteta because that's a good leap.
01:22:19But he's still got a lot to do on that Matteta.
01:22:21He guides it into the far corner.
01:22:24Really, really good goal.
01:22:25Another good goal for him and a great season.
01:22:27This is Jefferson Lerma's long throw-in, which then Brentford, ironically,
01:22:32don't deal with very well.
01:22:33And Nathan Collins ends up getting contact on it, but he's facing his own goal.
01:22:37So, that man, Oliver Glasner, is doing a great job this season.
01:22:40And he anticipated it being a battle of set-pieces.
01:22:44And it was, and he got the decision right.
01:22:47What a week for Crystal Palace.
01:22:48And beating the 11 at home as well.
01:22:50So, yeah, great week for them.
01:22:52Knocking Liverpool, of course, out of the League Cup, as you rightly say.
01:22:55OK, let's have a quick look at the table then, shall we?
01:22:59Arsenal are now seven points clear at the top after yet another victory without conceding.
01:23:04Victory for Liverpool helps Arna Slott's side rise to third.
01:23:08Wolves already eight points from safety and have become the first side in top-flight history
01:23:13to fail to win any of their first ten matches in excessive seasons.
01:23:17Nottingham Forest ended their run of four straight defeats without scoring,
01:23:20but a four points adrift of Burnley in 17th.
01:23:23Thank you so much for your company today, Ashley and Alan.
01:23:27Liverpool get back to winning ways.
01:23:29Slott stops the rot.
01:23:31And that's your lot.
01:23:32Good night.
01:23:33We'll see you next time.
01:23:33We'll see you next time.

01:23:35We'll see you next time.
01:23:36We'll see you next time.
01:23:36We'll see you next time.
01:23:37We'll see you next time.
01:23:38We'll see you next time.
01:23:39We'll see you next time.
01:23:40We'll see you next time.
01:23:41We'll see you next time.
01:23:42We'll see you next time.
01:23:43We'll see you next time.
01:23:44We'll see you next time.
01:23:45We'll see you next time.
01:23:46We'll see you next time.
01:23:47We'll see you next time.
