00:30The Giants
00:40Oh hi, it's so good to have you with us. Welcome along for this Champions League post-match show. What's wrong? Very sarcastic. Oh hi. Oh hi. No, it wasn't. It's good to have you with us. Kate Scott, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards. We're going to start by talking about the Real Madrid Marseille game. Real Madrid winning at the Bernabeu 2-1 the final score.
00:59Let's start with an early chance from Kylian Mbappe and go through the highlights.
01:02Ballon d'Or winner next year, of course. You never write off this man. I mean, he's just so good. He looks electric, Thierry. Talked to him about it before the game.
01:11But he just seems to be playing with a different sort of confidence at the moment. I know he scored a lot of goals last season. But he's actually playing well and scoring goals this season. And unlucky with that first shot. A little, what do you call that? Acrobatic? Yes. Yes.
01:28And then Timothy Weir from an assist from Greenwood scoring first ever American scoring at the Bernabeu. And believe it or not, his dad won the ball 30 years ago.
01:47No. Yes. Lovely moment.
01:50Take a bow. What a finish. Great asses from Greenwood. By the way, not being selfish. And you can celebrate.
01:57Oh, wow. That is cool. That is really cool. That's nice. That is amazing. Very nice. Like it. Who's better looking?
02:09Oh, is that squad of the Bernabeu in 1994? Hmm. Really? Do you think? Look at this. Look at the goal. Oh, it's coming. Ginela. Ginela. See you. That doesn't look like the Bernabeu, does it?
02:25Yeah. But back in the days, the pitches were not that great. Wow. What a team Paris had at that time.
02:36The Bernabeu had a glow, wasn't it? Ginela. Oh, that's the Ballon d'Or.
02:42Ballon d'Or, wow. Very cool. Mm-hmm. That's amazing.
02:48OK, so Real Madrid get two penalties in this game. Score both of them. Let's take a look at the first, Jamie.
02:53Yes, we look at it into them first before we get to the penalty. And yes, this is a penalty. There's no doubt about that.
03:00Rodrigo got the penalty on that side. He wanted to play on the left side. Vinicius was on the bench.
03:05You know, you can argue he's done his job in some ways there. You want a goal or an assist from attacking players.
03:12He's got the assist, if you like. He's given Real Madrid a great opportunity to get back into the game. And that was a great penalty.
03:19It was. That's one of them. Even the keeper goes the right way. It's just in that side net and fantastic.
03:24And that's what I was talking about at half-time. That's what Aubameyang can give you, running behind.
03:30He gets a bit lucky there, but he does put his body well on Militao. And then you would like to think that he will score there.
03:37That's what I'm talking about. He goes on Militao a bit. Militao doesn't stand his ground, sorry.
03:44But I backed him up to finish that, but he didn't.
03:48I guess one of the incidents you thought could be a key incident was Dani Carbajal getting red carded and Madrid going down to 10.
03:54Yeah, he's better than that. He's an experienced player. He's a red card. You don't go to the goalkeeper.
03:59The goalkeeper's reaction is very embarrassing, but, yeah, it's a red card. You can't put your head in someone's face like that.
04:07You and Clint Dempsey, wasn't it?
04:09But, come on. The referee gets it right. Definitely red card.
04:15Then we want to look at the, of course we always look at the incident first, so let's take a look at the penalty incident.
04:21That would be the second penalty.
04:23Listen, I'm furious with this. I mean, what defending that is? You're in the Bernabeu, you know, you're trying to hang on.
04:30You produce a brilliant tackle against one of the best players in the world and the ball bounces up and hits your hand.
04:35I actually think that might be one of the worst ones I've ever seen.
04:38I'm not trying to be dramatic. I can't. It's an amazing piece of defending. His arm is by his body.
04:44There's nothing he can do. And as soon as it hits him, he's trying to, he's getting his hand out.
04:49What is he supposed to do?
04:52The driver is taking him down, isn't he?
04:55Where is he supposed to go? His arm is coming down. His arm isn't outside. He hasn't done a wild swing.
05:00It's just next to his body, exactly where it should be.
05:04Brilliant piece of defending, getting penalised.
05:06I mean, listen, this is a group game. And listen, who knows?
05:11But they've got eight games or another seven games to rectify it and, you know, try and get through to the, you know, wherever they go through the knockout stage.
05:18Well, could you imagine losing a Champions League final like that?
05:21Mm.
05:22Unbelievable. It's, it's shocking.
05:24Well, I'm sure that our resident FIFA rules expert, Christina Unkle, would never defend that, would she?
05:30No.
05:31Let's welcome her in for the first time this new season.
05:33Christina!
05:34Christina.
05:35Christina.
05:36You agree with Jamie?
05:37Well, hello.
05:39You know what, Kay?
05:40That is definitely a leading way to answer, ask that question.
05:43And you know better than that.
05:44Ooh.
05:45No, I will not defend this with respect because I don't think it's the correct decision.
05:50There's been a lot of chatter as to whether this is the bracing arm, which is a part of the analysis of a handling offense.
05:55And the answer is it's not part of the bracing definition, right?
05:58Whereas where typically you have your hand underneath your body while you're supporting it for a slide.
06:02This is really a conversation as to whether or not this is deliberate or not.
06:06I think Jamie hit a lot of those categories on the head.
06:09At the end of the day, his body is in the natural silhouette of where it would be if you were going down on that type of a challenge.
06:15It's expected.
06:16He has nowhere else he can move his arms.
06:18And naturally that's where he would move his arms.
06:20But this is, you know, this is that conversation that we have where even the laws have now included into interpretation.
06:27Distance.
06:28Did he kick it into his own hands?
06:30You know, is the defender kicking the ball in by him making that challenge?
06:33The majority of that contact occurs because he is making that defensive challenge, which makes the ball pop into it.
06:39And so it's natural.
06:40So I don't like this decision.
06:41I don't think this is what should have been given.
06:43I think the decision should be no penalty.
06:45Now the question is going to come.
06:47Well, then why did VAR not recommend it down to overturn the penalty decision?
06:51And because this is not necessarily I still think this is wrong.
06:55I still think VAR should send it down for the referee to review because I do feel like this would fall under a clear and obvious error.
07:00And I think that's what the referees are going to find out from the UEFA Observer when we talk about it next week or when they discuss it with them in the next week that this should not have been a penalty given.
07:09And if given, we would want VAR to intervene to recommend no penalty.
07:13So wrong and wrong in short.
07:16Christina, another question, because we saw a similar incident that would have given Marseille a penalty earlier on in the game.
07:22Did that look more like a penalty than this one?
07:25Oh, yeah, that other one did look more like a penalty on this.
07:28But when we take a look at it, it's again, you know, where are your arms in this context of this play?
07:32Is it tight within your body?
07:34And one of the biggest questions in here, what brings this into more of an evaluation is because it is true shot on goal.
07:40He's bringing his arm in.
07:41He's in tight.
07:42The question is, is his elbow out further than it needs to be for where he's doing it?
07:46I prefer this not being called as a penalty.
07:48Yes, it's a shot on goal.
07:49Yes, he's moving, making a movement with his arms, but he's trying to get himself tighter in.
07:53And it's really not a full out extension.
07:55So I'm OK with no penalty given here.
07:57Go on.
07:58You wanted to say something?
07:59No, I just want, Christina, I just want to rush.
08:01When your name come up at the bottom, it said CBS Rules Analyst.
08:06I've never seen that title before.
08:08Is that a new one this season?
08:10We've used to say none of them for three years now.
08:12I guess so.
08:13It's always said Rules Analyst.
08:15It's always said Rules Analyst, yeah.
08:17I've never seen one.
08:19I have.
08:20Apologies, Christina.
08:22Christina, it's nice to hear you being on the same team as all of us.
08:26Thank you so much.
08:27Good to see you.
08:28Rules Analyst.
08:29Of course.
08:30I'll do as well.
08:31Titi looked very enthusiastic about that part.
08:35You already know what I think, so I don't know why you come back to me with that one.
08:39OK, so let's look at the penalty then, because Kylian Mbappe put it away, Thierry.
08:44Yeah, he did.
08:45I thought he was going to be on the same side.
08:49Don't care.
08:50Should have said that for me.
08:51But he didn't.
08:52That's when things are going your way.
08:53Great penalty at the end of the day if he goes in.
08:56Yes, Kylian Mbappe creeping his way up that list of all-time Champions League top scorers.
09:05Level now with Thomas Muller on 57.
09:08Still a fair way to go though, isn't it?
09:10Cristiano Ronaldo 140.
09:12It's just an insane number.
09:14Here's a treat for you, everybody.
09:16Kylian Mbappe with Anita Jones.
09:19No!
09:20Is he coming into the studio?
09:22He's coming into the studio.
09:23Ah!
09:24Congratulations on the win.
09:25First game in the Champions League for Real Madrid.
09:27You came clutch with two penalties.
09:29You got the Man of the Match award as well too.
09:31Give me your thoughts on the performance today.
09:33Oh, we're happy.
09:34Happy to start the Champions League with a win.
09:36At home it was important.
09:38We know how tough it is to start the Champions League with a win.
09:41That's what we did.
09:42It was not an easy game, but we're back with a win at home.
09:47All the fans are happy right now.
09:48But I think we can still improve.
09:50It's just the start of the season.
09:52We know what we do good, what we can improve.
09:54And we hope to be better on the next game and on the next weeks.
09:58Speaking of improving, you had 11 shots on target in that first half.
10:02How frustrating was it that you couldn't convert any of those before the penalty?
10:06We have to be better.
10:07We have to be better me first.
10:09I think we had many chances to open the score and we didn't.
10:15And at the end in the Champions League when you don't score, the other team score.
10:18That's what Marseille did.
10:19So at the end of the day we have to work on training more to be more efficient in front of the goal.
10:24And to score more goals.
10:25I think we can.
10:26We have the pot to share four.
10:27And we're going to do it in the next games.
10:29What's it like playing for Xabi Alonso?
10:31He's made it very clear that this team is going to be based around you.
10:35You are key for him.
10:36I'm important.
10:37Yes, but I think all the team are important.
10:40That's what he wants to say.
10:41That's everybody on the pitch.
10:42I have to bring something to the team to bring something to the table.
10:45And that's what we do for the moment.
10:47But we know also that we can improve.
10:50We can be better.
10:51It's just the start of a new project for him, for the team, for us too.
10:55So we have to learn and to listen what he's going to say and to be better.
11:00And just finally, next week, as you know, of course, it's a huge day in football.
11:04The Ballon d'Or.
11:05Which one?
11:06One of your national teammates, of course, is tipped to be the favourite in Dembele.
11:11Micah in the studio is saying, next year you're going to get it.
11:14What would it mean to you to win the Ballon d'Or one day?
11:18You know, now in the Ballon d'Or you have to win things before.
11:22So I just have to help my team to win trophies.
11:25And after we're going to see.
11:26But I'm happy if Dembele win it because he's my friend and I support him since the first day.
11:30So I'm going to be on TV, I'm going to watch and I hope he's going to win.
11:34Thank you so much, Kylian. Congratulations.
11:36Shout.
11:38What's wrong, Micah?
11:39That's the most ridiculous thing ever.
11:41We have players after having a two-way.
11:44Kiki, we've not spoke to him for years.
11:47And it's not even, you know what that's like?
11:49You know when you say to your parents back in the day, McDonald's,
11:52and I say to you, you've got McDonald's at home.
11:54You know, like, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just ridiculous.
11:59Honestly, girl.
12:00Did you just get accepted before?
12:02What did he do?
12:04You played with our emotions there.
12:07I thought it was live, I thought it was a live hit.
12:09Sorry.
12:10No, I got excited too.
12:11Have we ever had Kylian MbappĂŠ on the show before?
12:13Exactly!
12:14Have you ever had Kylian MbappĂŠ?
12:15He just scored a couple of goals, came into the studio?
12:18I think he's getting a little bit wound up,
12:20because when he mentioned, or I need to mention Micah,
12:23I'm not quite sure he knew who you were already.
12:24There wasn't a big reaction, was there?
12:26Oh, he knows who I am.
12:27Don't worry.
12:28Oh, yeah, we DM.
12:29Hey, we DM, don't worry about that.
12:30We DM?
12:31Don't worry, we DM.
12:32You've never DM'd Kylian MbappĂŠ?
12:33Hey.
12:34Has he DM'd you back?
12:35Has he DM'd you back?
12:36It doesn't matter.
12:37I mean, I'm getting the feeling that you might tell a few porkies about your phone.
12:42A few porkies?
12:43I mean, last night was a little porky, wasn't it?
12:45What was last night?
12:46NASA.
12:47TT?
12:48No, no, that was true.
12:49I saw the text.
12:50TT, was that true?
12:51You see the text in the end?
12:52I saw the text.
12:53It wasn't a porky.
12:54Has he come back to you with a text?
12:55He's not come back to you with a text.
12:56Hang on, so hang on, let me break this out.
12:58You text him?
12:59No, no, no.
13:00There was a text from NASA as well.
13:01No, no, no, no, no, no.
13:03Look, he texts me.
13:05What did he text?
13:07Thank you very much.
13:08It's one of the wonder the Champions League.
13:10Yeah, so let's see what he texts you.
13:12I'll show you what he texts me.
13:13What did he text you?
13:17Do you have banter with him?
13:19No, because...
13:20I have banter.
13:21Thank you, but I'm not sure about Liverpool next season.
13:24Ha ha.
13:25We are banter.
13:28What is this?
13:29What have we become?
13:30We are banter.
13:31Oh, my gosh.
13:32Oh, gosh.
13:35Fancy friends.
13:36I feel deflated after that.
13:38I know, it is a little disappointing.
13:39Next time.
13:40You don't look deflated.
13:41Ha ha ha.
13:42Ha ha ha.
13:43Ha ha ha.
13:44Ha ha ha.
13:45Ha ha ha.
13:46Ha ha ha ha.
13:47Ha ha ha ha.
13:48Ha ha ha.
13:49Ha ha ha.
13:50Ha ha ha.
13:51Ha ha ha.
13:52Ha ha ha.
13:53Ha ha ha.
13:54Ha ha ha.
13:55That was good.
13:56Next up, we're going to talk about Caravac getting their first win of this Champions League campaign.
14:00We'll be back in just a minute.
14:01Ha ha ha.
14:02Ha ha ha.
14:03Ha ha ha.
14:04Ha ha ha.
14:05Ha ha ha.
14:06Ha ha ha.
14:07Ha ha ha.
14:08Ha ha ha.
14:09Ha ha ha.
14:10Ha ha ha.
14:11Ha ha ha.
14:12Ha ha ha.
14:13Ha ha ha.
14:14Ha ha ha ha.
14:15Ha ha ha ha.
14:16Ha ha ha ha.
14:17Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
14:47Welcome back, everybody.
14:49Good to have you still with us.
14:50So we're going to talk about Carabac.
14:52We went to Benfica, a nine-and-a-half-hour flight from Baku to Lisbon
14:56and got their first win of this Champions League campaign.
15:00Haven't played in the Champions League for years.
15:01It's only the second time the club has ever played in the Champions League.
15:04So huge result for them today against a big team like Benfica.
15:07Let's take a look at some of the action.
15:10Mikey, let's nail it.
15:13We went through three qualified rounds just to get here.
15:15Outstanding.
15:15But it was Benfica who took the league.
15:18Baron Achea, Thierry tells me, pronunciation-wise.
15:22Gets him off to a good start from a set-piece.
15:24Lovely little guided header into that far corner.
15:29At this point, I thought they'd run away with it.
15:32Jamie?
15:33Yeah, Pavlidis makes it 2-0.
15:37And then you think it's going to be a comfortable win.
15:38I think everybody in the stadium, Carabac included, will be thinking,
15:42you know, I'm not going to get too much in this game.
15:45Turns, plenty of space in there.
15:48Tidy little finish.
15:49And again, you see ourselves in the studio, 2-0 Benfica.
15:52But it all turned around, Thierry.
15:54Yes, Leandro Andrade.
15:56I like the way he went, make sure he let that little jump before.
16:00Look up.
16:01There.
16:02While he was going to hit it, to make sure that the ball was going to stay low.
16:06And he did hit the target, obviously.
16:09Camilo Duran.
16:11And I mean, you can say, that's a great finish.
16:15I like that finish.
16:17I like that finish.
16:18And you need to make yourself fall to be able to go around the ball, to go across.
16:23And he did that ever so well.
16:242-2.
16:24And you think, like, there's no way that he can carry on like that.
16:28And Mike, I'm going to let you pronounce that now.
16:30Yeah, the defendant here is ridiculous.
16:34Go out to him.
16:35He don't go out to him.
16:37Then he didn't pick him out.
16:39He turns and shoots.
16:40It's a wonderful moment.
16:42But the defendant is abysmal.
16:45Lovely swivel.
16:47Miss hits into the corner.
16:48But who cares?
16:49What a win for Karabai.
16:52Great Norman.
16:53That's Champions League, isn't it?
16:55We had an underdog last season, didn't we?
16:57We had Brest last season.
17:03This season we've got Karabai.
17:05And we knew since we were.
17:07Winning at the finals.
17:08Yes.
17:09What does that do for a team like this that comes into a game, clearly an underdog?
17:14Massive.
17:14Listen, we said before the show that six teams can win it.
17:21So a lot of the teams are just delighted to be in the Champions League.
17:24They want memories.
17:24They want things they can look back on.
17:26But this is a game that they look back on in years to come.
17:28Not just this season, but it's a game that Bruno Laje and his players and those supporters
17:34look back on.
17:35That's one of those games, the way you've lost as well.
17:37A team that you've lost to as well.
17:39That's a big problem for you as a manager in the club.
17:41I've seen that scene last year with Benfica.
17:45Beginning of the Trepens team getting booed.
17:47Was it Barcelona that came back against them when they were well ahead?
17:50And they were getting booed.
17:51I saw the same thing and they went through.
17:53So let's think about that.
17:55And I know it was Barcelona that's Karabag, but I remember that scene, exact scene, last
17:59year at the beginning of the Champions League.
18:01Same way, that's how they left the field.
18:02Do you know who Karabag played in match day two, Jamie?
18:06No, I don't.
18:06Yes, it's Copenhagen.
18:08Oh, dude.
18:09It's going to be two wins from two at home.
18:12What are you saying about Copenhagen?
18:14I'm just saying if it'd be...
18:15I'm going to be in Copenhagen.
18:19They're the fixtures.
18:20Yeah.
18:21If you've done any research...
18:22It's a nine and a half hour flight.
18:29Any interest in us sending it over to Baku?
18:32If I can get a train there, I'll go.
18:33I'm not getting a flight.
18:34If we can figure out a train route for you...
18:36I will go.
18:37You will go.
18:37I will go, 100%.
18:38I will go.
18:39It will take you a couple of days.
18:40That's all right.
18:41What?
18:42I don't mind going on the train.
18:43No chance.
18:44Don't get such...
18:45This is what we want.
18:46We want the stories.
18:47You know?
18:48We will find a way for you to go there on the train.
18:51I will go.
18:52You will go?
18:53I will go.
18:53Mike and Richies will go to Carabag.
18:55Why are you...
18:56Stop it.
19:00And you don't answer.
19:04Jenny, is that all?
19:05All right.
19:06We're going to go to a quick break.
19:06We've got a couple of other games to go through for you.
19:08We'll be back in just a few seconds.
19:21We'll be back in just a few seconds.
19:51We'll be back in just a few seconds.
19:58Welcome back, everybody.
19:59Still got a few games to catch you up on so far this evening.
20:02We do just want to remind you, though, that Real Madrid got a 2-1 win over Marseille at the Bernabeu.
20:07It would be good to hear from the manager.
20:08So here is Guillain Balague with Xabi Alonso.
20:10If you play in the first 20 minutes, you're going to win every game, no problem.
20:16But you couldn't sustain that, could you?
20:18Yeah, no problem, but you have always an opponent, but for sure we have played, I think that
20:23the first half an hour was really good, especially against the ball.
20:28We have regained so many balls, we have created chances, and we were unlucky not to score
20:33that goal to get the lead, but anyway, the confidence was there, the good mood and the
20:38good flow was there, even conceding, and the first half I was really lucky, we have talked
20:44in the halftime, we were doing well, we had to keep doing that, the second half was a bit
20:49different, we were trying to build that control that we were going to have the chance, and
20:56luckily we got the red card, everything changed, but the spirit of the team didn't change, and
21:00we didn't want to just defend and to see what happened, we have been really, really aggressive,
21:06showing a lot of character to score that lead, and after we have been very mature to keep
21:11the lead.
21:12Well, that was interesting, did we all know that Guillaume had tattoos, I for one didn't?
21:18No.
21:19First time seeing that on air, for you two?
21:20You?
21:21No one else interesting?
21:22I've got a tattoo, ma'am.
21:23No, I've got no tattoos.
21:24No.
21:25Whatsoever?
21:26You neither?
21:27You?
21:28You?
21:29Nope.
21:30None?
21:31Oh.
21:32How many?
21:33Are we talking about Guillaume or me?
21:34You?
21:35Guillaume had two that we could see.
21:36I've seen them before when we were travelling.
21:38So I wasn't surprised.
21:39OK.
21:40Well, that was a nice wrap.
21:42Anyway, let's talk about Union Saint-Gilois making their debut in the Champions League,
21:48and what a debut it was.
21:49It got a win.
21:50Away to PSV Eindhoven, 3-1 the final score.
21:52Jamie, did you guys see much of this one?
21:54Yeah, I did.
21:55I saw quite a bit of it, yeah.
21:57LAUGHTER
21:58He's focused through the first goal.
22:01Oh!
22:02Pepe!
22:03Yeah, penalty.
22:04Pepe gave the penalty away.
22:05Oh, wait.
22:06Listen, we've all been in that situation, he doesn't know the play is there.
22:09Pepe.
22:10And there's that from Taylor.
22:12Thank God he appeared then.
22:14LAUGHTER
22:15And a penalty from David.
22:18LAUGHTER
22:19And then...
22:20It was two.
22:21The second goal was a really good goal, though, wasn't it, Jamie?
22:24I mean, El Hajj makes a beautiful run.
22:28Centre in the pitch.
22:29I think he's going to go one way.
22:30Is he going to look for a pass?
22:31No.
22:32He's going to chop here.
22:33Lovely.
22:34Can he find a finish?
22:35Of course he can.
22:36Off the bottom post and then Pepe involved again.
22:39Should have took the ball.
22:41And the man.
22:42Take everything away.
22:43It wasn't meant to be.
22:44I think this one, Jamie.
22:45And two-nil.
22:46I will.
22:47And this is McAllister.
22:49The brother of Alexis McAllister of Liverpool.
22:53What about Kevin?
22:54Yes.
22:55That was a homo.
22:56Correct.
22:57Yes.
22:58Oh.
22:59He throws maybe offside, but he makes his run perfectly timesy.
23:02Oh, he's got the gum shields.
23:03He's the ringer of him, isn't he?
23:05Oh, he looks like, isn't he?
23:07Brothers in Arms.
23:08What?
23:09Brothers in Arms.
23:10Ah.
23:11Okay.
23:12Who sang that song?
23:13I don't know the song.
23:14Nope.
23:15Nope.
23:16What's the song?
23:17How does it...
23:18Dire shaped, yeah?
23:19What?
23:20I'm going to do...
23:21Someone wants to sing?
23:22Yeah?
23:23I can't remember, actually.
23:24Just come to me, Brothers in Arms.
23:25A turn of...
23:26A turn of phrase.
23:27Dire shaped, Kate.
23:30Yeah.
23:31I heard that.
23:32That's what it would be like for Michael if he has to go to Carabag.
23:35So, we are going to go to one of the other later games.
23:39Juventus against Dortmund.
23:404-4.
23:41The final score.
23:42Eight goals in total.
23:43Wowee.
23:44Let's start with Adeyemi for Borussia Dortmund.
23:46Yeah.
23:47Great piece of play from Dortmund.
23:49Little ball from Gerasi.
23:51Gerasi.
23:52Surround the player.
23:53And Adeyemi, when he took that ball, he only had one idea.
23:56He took it so well.
23:57Went in.
23:58And you're going to see here.
23:59Memsha is going to give the ball to Gerasi.
24:01Flick it.
24:02When he goes around, there's no way you can stop in there.
24:051-0.
24:06I was going to see here, like what Gerasi did.
24:09And 1-0.
24:10Dortmund.
24:11What a finish.
24:12The power that he put in that.
24:13There's no way the goalkeeper can go and get that.
24:15Really.
24:16Really good finish.
24:18The man I've been talking about.
24:20Woo!
24:21Look at that one.
24:22Yield is.
24:23What a player.
24:24The way he just comes inside and bends it into the far corner.
24:28What a player he is and what a player he's going to be too.
24:32Wonderful, wonderful finish into that top corner.
24:35Technique was perfect.
24:37Keeper, no chance.
24:40Top back.
24:41All right.
24:44Was he Dortmund in the second?
24:46Nementia, yeah.
24:47He makes it too.
24:48I mean, it was so quick afterwards.
24:50As I said, a couple of minutes.
24:52But there's eight goals in this game.
24:54And seven goals from the 63rd minute onwards.
24:58Just shows how action-packed it was in that last sort of 30, 35 minutes.
25:03So didn't have time to sort of hold on to anything really, Juventus.
25:07And they were back in front.
25:08Richard Dortmund.
25:09Not for long.
25:10Not for long.
25:11But that man, Vlahovic.
25:13Ex-Fiorantina with a wonderful, wonderful strike.
25:17Time in the room.
25:18Perfect.
25:19Think he's going to go back to his left foot.
25:21No.
25:22Stays on his right.
25:23Lovely touch.
25:24Pass the goalkeeper to get him back in it.
25:26Really good finish.
25:292-2, but then.
25:31Cherry.
25:32Yan Kuto.
25:33We go on the other side.
25:34You can see him losing the ball.
25:38He gets it back.
25:39And I think the goalkeeper should do way better than this.
25:41But it's a hell of a strike.
25:42Yes, he hit it hard.
25:43But the goalkeeper cannot, right now, at a particular moment, let him score on that side.
25:49Defendiram lost the ball.
25:51Kuto didn't lose it before.
25:53He got it back.
25:543-2.
25:55And then your man, Mike.
25:58Yeah.
25:59I mean, lovely.
26:01Look at that for strength.
26:02Yield is.
26:03Post.
26:04Post.
26:05Looked like it was just going to creep in.
26:07Lovely little setback.
26:08I think the goalkeeper gets a little hand to it as well.
26:12He does.
26:13What a save that is.
26:16And then, you get a penalty incident here.
26:20Yeah.
26:21I mean, the ball hits his chest.
26:25And then, because I think the two hands are in a kind of awkward position, if you can
26:30say it in the round here after.
26:32It's, it's, it's a penalty.
26:34And there was a battle.
26:35And the man who had a big part of playing the game.
26:37Not just with this penalty.
26:38Yes.
26:39I mean, they had a battle to know who was going to take it.
26:42Gerasi or him.
26:43And to be fair, that particular moment we all thought it was over.
26:46But that's the goal I was talking about.
26:48Hey.
26:49Ben Sabahini has the chance to clear it now.
26:5293rd minute.
26:53Clear it.
26:54What are you doing now?
26:55He's trying to be cute.
26:56Toe pocket between the legs.
26:57Trying to not make the player.
26:58You lose the ball.
26:59Boom.
27:00Go.
27:01That particular moment we all said.
27:03You know what?
27:04They're going to get punished.
27:05You don't respect football.
27:06Karma will come and get you.
27:08Yeah.
27:09And it did.
27:10What are you doing?
27:1193rd minute.
27:12Kick the ball forward.
27:13Push up.
27:14And let's see the game out.
27:15You're trying to not make someone to make a pass.
27:17Next thing you know.
27:19Cross Violet, bitch.
27:21Lloyd Kelly.
27:22Yes.
27:23Do you remember seeing him in the Premier League?
27:26Yes.
27:27He was at Newcastle.
27:28And Bournemouth.
27:29Yes.
27:30What a game.
27:33What a game to start the Champions League.
27:35First day back.
27:36The Champions League is back, Kate.
27:37Yes, it is.
27:384-4 the final score.
27:39I'll tell you what.
27:40We can bring in a former Juventus player.
27:42Current Marseille player who scored against Real Madrid tonight.
27:45Timothy.
27:46Good to see you.
27:49How are you guys?
27:51We're good.
27:52We're good.
27:53How do you feel after that game?
27:54Obviously, to score at the Bernabeu is a big achievement personally.
27:57But to not get the win for the team has to be disappointing.
28:03Yeah, I think, you know, obviously, I'm happy to score my first goal for the club.
28:07I think the fans deserved it.
28:08But, you know, when you leave here without a win, it's kind of bittersweet.
28:13So, I mean, I would have preferred to win the game.
28:17Tim, is it Thierry?
28:18It's alright, Tonton?
28:19Oh, Tonton!
28:20Yes, it's alright.
28:21Now, I have one question for you.
28:24I mean, you said it yourself.
28:26I mean, we all know the most important thing is to win, but how did you feel to score at the Bernabeu knowing that you're the first ever American to score there?
28:39In the Champions League, yeah, obviously.
28:42It's a pleasure.
28:43I mean, it's a dream come true.
28:44I think as a kid you dream of moments like that and, you know, there's no better club to do it with.
28:49I'm so happy to be here at Marseille.
28:51And, you know, I just wanted to give the fans something to cheer about.
28:54So, you know, I'm super happy and, you know, the job doesn't stop here.
28:58I put this game behind me and now it's on to the next.
29:00Timothy, how is it working with the coach Deserby?
29:03We know him really well from his time in the Premier League.
29:06He was an outstanding coach and it looks like he's doing a similar job at Marseille.
29:09But how has he been for you personally?
29:14Personally, I mean, he's a players coach.
29:15He loves his players.
29:16And I think, you know, he was really one of the main reasons I came to the club.
29:20You know, he called me late night and told me how he wanted me.
29:23He's going to be able to make me a better player.
29:26And, you know, I believe him.
29:27I believe in his philosophy.
29:28I believe in everything he does and he shows the passion.
29:30I mean, once you have a coach that loves the game,
29:33it makes you want to love the game too and enjoy playing football.
29:37So, I'm super happy to be one of his players.
29:39And, you know, I'll fight to the death for him.
29:41So, yeah.
29:42So, if he was cooling you up late at night,
29:43are you saying he tapped you up?
29:48Come again? Sorry.
29:49Oh, my God. I love this again.
29:53Internationali.
29:54We were talking earlier, Micah, Jamie and everybody, about just what it was like walking into the Bernabeu
30:03and what kind of stadium that is and how you make it feel.
30:05Just from our perspective, you know, just working a game over there.
30:08How does it feel as a player?
30:09Was it the most impressive stadium you've walked into?
30:11Yeah, definitely. I mean, it's definitely football royalty.
30:18You feel it. You see it when you walk in.
30:20It's a field of dreams. It's somewhere that you want to play.
30:23And I think tonight we saw that from the boys.
30:26We put up a good fight.
30:27And I think it's that energy that you get from the Bernabeu.
30:29I mean, in 100 years, I didn't believe that I would play here.
30:32I grew up in Rosedale playing on a small turf pitch.
30:35So, you know, coming here, it was definitely a dream come true.
30:38And I'm definitely humbled and I'm so happy to be in my position.
30:43Tim, we saw the cover of Anze Mondiale.
30:45Obviously, your dad with the shirt of Marseille, yourself also with the shirt of Marseille.
30:50Your dad scored there with Paris Saint-Germain against Real Madrid.
30:55Obviously, how influential it was for you, obviously, to go to Marseille.
31:04You know, when I got the call from Marseille, my dad was the first one.
31:07He said he loved it there.
31:08He said, you know, it's something special playing for this club.
31:11I think the supporters, when you watch our home games, the supporters,
31:15I mean, even tonight, 4,000 tickets and almost 10,000 fans came.
31:19So, the support that we have here is incredible.
31:21And, you know, I'm just happy to be a part of that.
31:23And hopefully, I can do some great things here.
31:26Because I really want to succeed here.
31:28And I think that's the perfect way to pay back the fans for the love that they show to us every game.
31:33Well, Timothy, it's all a bit serious.
31:36You know what I mean?
31:37This is CBS, baby.
31:38And what we want to know is...
31:41You know what's coming, baby.
31:42Who's your favorite on the show?
31:46Who's my favorite?
31:48Tonton, Tonton Titi.
31:50Uncle Titi.
31:51Titi.
31:52Oh, yeah, yeah!
31:53Shit!
31:54I'm on this guy, too!
31:57Oh!
31:58Congratulations on our...
31:59Thanks for that, Timothy.
32:00...on a great night for you personally and scoring at the Bernabeu.
32:02I'm sure that feels like a dream come true.
32:04Congratulations!
32:05Congratulations!
32:06Thank you for joining us.
32:08Thank you for having me.
32:09Great goal.
32:11Thank you for having me.
32:12You know, tight.
32:13The back.
32:14The suit is tight.
32:15I was there.
32:16You can't even...
32:18You know?
32:19I know.
32:20Why can't anyone understand what you're saying?
32:24I think he chose not to understand that one, too.
32:26North London teams were both in action tonight.
32:28Tottenham and Arsenal.
32:29We're gonna talk about them in just a minute.
32:30Woo-hoo!
32:51Totty?
32:52Totty?
32:53Totty!
32:54No!
32:55Totty!
32:56We've been coaching on a team atkmale.
33:23We've been coaching towards the East.
33:25Count on the NFL on CBS for a fantastic week three slate, including the Bengals and Vikings beginning at noon Eastern with a special NFL Today with the guys throwing it back to celebrate five decades of our pregame show. You can always count on the NFL on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. So they get to celebrate five decades. We get to celebrate five years. We should definitely have some kind of jingle-y type music like this, I think, coming our way. That'd be nice, wouldn't it? Nice and snazzy. But we thought that since
33:55we're all celebrating something, we should do an NFL-based quiz for you two. A quiz? If you would like to play, you're very welcome to join in, I'm sure. I'll enjoy. Yes, you'll enjoy. What is it trying to find the logo? First person to... No. Oh, dear. No. No, Thierry. All right, so it's just you two. First person to shout out the correct answer, okay? The fridge. What? That's the only American footballer I know. The fridge?
34:25Is it not? It's from Don. Which cities do the Bengals and Vikings play in? Name the cities. Cincinnati.
34:33Yeah. Is one? I've just made that up. Is that true? Yes.
34:36Bengals. It was written earlier. It was? And? It was on the screen. The Vikings.
34:43Vikings. Minnesota? Indianapolis. You're very close. No, he's wrong. The Vikings. What did you say?
34:49Indianapolis. Minnesota, he said. No, he never.
34:53Yeah, he did. Yes, I said Minnesota. Okay. Wow. I thought that the Vikings play in Minneapolis.
34:58Did I say Minneapolis? No, you said Indianapolis. Oh.
35:03That's why the name is. Why do they say it like that? 1-1, 1-1.
35:06Indianapolis, yeah. Right. Did you come to a community? No, he said no.
35:09Anyways, how many players are on the field for each team during an NFL game?
35:14How many players on the team? 15. Wrong.
35:16On the, on the... 12, 11, 18. Correct.
35:22Nonsense.
35:23How many teams are there in the NFL? How many teams in the league?
35:2612. 18. More than that.
35:2816. 22. Start guessing. Come on.
35:3024, 26, 30. 30.
35:3432? Yes.
35:35Yeah!
35:35Oh, let's go, Micah.
35:37Let's go.
35:37Who won last year's Super Bowl?
35:39Oh, it was Figgy. The handsome guy. What's his name?
35:42Not you.
35:43With a green, with a green.
35:44Green Bay Packers.
35:45No.
35:45Green Bay Packers.
35:46Come on, Green.
35:47Oh, my God!
35:49Eagles!
35:49Eagles!
35:50Eagles!
35:50Eagles, yes!
35:51I did it.
35:53You lot aren't in the quiz.
35:54What's his name?
35:55Okay, final question.
35:57What's the point score, by the way?
35:58I'm winning.
35:59He's winning 3-2.
36:00Did we know?
36:00Yeah.
36:01We don't know.
36:01How many of our...
36:03How many our CBS colleagues...
36:06Oh, how many of our CBS colleagues can you name from the NFL?
36:09NFL Today's studio show?
36:11Come on.
36:12Zero.
36:13No, you can, surely.
36:14We did a Super Bowl show with them.
36:16Oh!
36:17Inside the NFL.
36:18No.
36:19No, wrong show.
36:21What's the funny show that copy us?
36:24It's a totally different show.
36:25Oh, it's basketball.
36:26Oh, is it?
36:27The CBS show.
36:28What are the name of the pundits?
36:28We did a Super Bowl show with them.
36:30Oh, the guy who does the news as well.
36:33Well, he does the CBS morning show.
36:35Yeah.
36:36Give us a...
36:36Come on.
36:38I haven't got a clue.
36:39I don't know.
36:40I don't know.
36:41I don't know.
36:42I don't know.
36:43I don't know.
36:44He's got glasses.
36:45Nate.
36:46Cool.
36:47Cool.
36:48Cool.
36:49Yeah, I think you should get a point for that.
36:50I'll get a point for that.
36:51Nick Burleson.
36:52The host.
36:53I wasn't on the trip.
36:54I wasn't on the trip.
36:55Oh, the...
36:56Oh, my gosh.
36:57Do your research.
36:58You should know.
36:59Yeah.
37:00Do your research.
37:01The host.
37:02Smooth.
37:03Smooth.
37:04Real smooth.
37:05Steve Hansen.
37:06No.
37:07Oh, my gosh.
37:08All right.
37:09Three all.
37:10It's a draw.
37:11It's a tie.
37:12It's...
37:13It's gotta be a winner.
37:14It's gotta be a winner.
37:15It's gotta be a winner.
37:16It's gotta be a winner.
37:17We're gonna do this every week.
37:18It's gotta be a winner.
37:19It's gotta be a winner.
37:20It's 3-3.
37:21What?
37:22It was 3-3?
37:23We need a winner.
37:24Yeah.
37:25We need a winner.
37:26We need a tiebreaker.
37:27We're...
37:28Next week, we'll roll it over.
37:29Oh, yeah.
37:30Roll over.
37:31All right.
37:32We are going to a quick break, everyone.
37:34We've got more still to come.
37:39Where's my lucky soccer?
37:53Well, tomorrow, Champions League opening week continues with another blockbuster day of action.
38:15We've got the defending champions, PSG, hosting Atalanta.
38:18Last season's runners-up, Inter Milan.
38:20They head to Ajax.
38:21And Liverpool play Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
38:24What a game that one is.
38:25All of that, plus a rematch of the 2012 final between Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
38:30And, as always, you can catch every single game live on Paramount Plus.
38:34Coverage of the two early games begins at noon.
38:36And we will be back with you at 2 p.m. Eastern.
38:39We'll be back in just a second after this break.
38:44Totti?
38:45Totti?
38:46Totti!
38:47Totti!
38:48Totti!
38:49Totti!
38:51Totti!
38:53Totti!
38:54Totti!
38:56Totti!
39:08Totti!
39:10Totti!
39:15Welcome back, everybody.
39:16Well, I promised you some North London action, but then we got distracted with an NFL quiz.
39:20So we're going to pick that back up now.
39:21Athletic club against Arsenal.
39:24So Arsenal playing away in Bilbao for their first one.
39:26What did you make of the opening game of the campaign, Arsenal, Thierry?
39:30I think it was good overall and we talked about the death of the team and that was the
39:36case.
39:37Tonight, Mikael Ateta went with Jocares and Eze at the beginning and it didn't work out
39:46a lot, although Jocares could have had a couple.
39:51And then Trossard came on and straight after that Martinelli came on and they combined on
39:57both goals.
39:58So that's what we're talking about when you have that luxury.
40:01On the bench, as you can see here, ball is cleared.
40:04The reaction straight away of Martinelli is to go in behind from the flick of Leandro Trossard.
40:12And then the finish could have been better, but at the end of the day, the ball went in
40:171-0.
40:18But again, it was, I think, like 30-plus seconds after he came on.
40:24So that was the impact that he had straight away and Trossard too, as he came on a bit
40:29before.
40:30And it will be all reversed after that, guys.
40:34Does that mean, Jamie, if you want to go?
40:35Yeah, I mean, we've mentioned before the game, weren't we?
40:38We're not just being clever after the event, we've mentioned how strong the squad is for
40:41Arsenal now.
40:42And the fact they then win the game with two players off the bench is just testament to
40:47that.
40:48And we've still got so many injuries as well.
40:50Four or five really top players who are not involved and they can still bring players off
40:53the bench with the quality of Trossard, Martinelli, Belgium international, Brazilian international.
40:59And they win the game for them.
41:01And the big thing with Arsenal is they're just so strong defensively.
41:04They never really look like losing the game.
41:06What about the other game that we haven't talked about in North London?
41:09Tottenham against Villarreal.
41:11One goal in it.
41:12It was an early mistake for Villarreal.
41:13Yeah, I mean, it wasn't the best of games, being totally honest.
41:16I'm being brutally honest.
41:17But they got the win and that's all that mattered.
41:19The goal came early as well and it's Spurs fastest ever Champions League goal.
41:23Three minutes and eight seconds.
41:26And it's an own goal by Lewis Junior.
41:29But that's the sort of luck you need.
41:31I'm delighted for Thomas Frank, a really good coach.
41:34He's done well for Spurs ever since he's been there from Brentford.
41:37And, yeah, sometimes you need that little bit of luck but the goalkeeper should be doing a lot better.
41:43But that was the first goal of the night, wasn't it?
41:45It was very early and it would have been the first night on the Champions League.
41:48I got very excited when that goal went in.
41:50Did you?
41:51And I think I scared someone.
41:52Scared who?
41:53Let's have a look.
41:54Keep watching.
41:55Go!
41:56Oh!
41:57Was it hot?
41:58Okay, let's take you over to Madrid one final time this evening.
42:14Because our friend Anita Jones and Guillaume Balague, they are both over there for us tonight.
42:19Anita, you've got Madrid tonight, Munich tomorrow.
42:23It's quite a journey for you.
42:24Yeah, it is.
42:25I know.
42:26I need to run off to bed.
42:27But let's talk about today because the conditions were hard for the players as well as us.
42:33The jacket's off for Guillaume, mine's undone because we are boiling.
42:38Never mind, dad.
42:39You were amazing with Kylian MbappĂŠ.
42:41That was a great interview, wasn't it?
42:43Brilliant interview.
42:44He was so relaxed.
42:45He just gave you everything.
42:46Michael, I heard you were crying a bit about that.
42:48Yeah, he was very selfish, Anita.
42:50I hope you're not that selfish on Thursday when we meet in Manchester because I'm the king of Manchester
42:56and I won't get you through some doors that you need to go through if you keep that up.
43:03First of all, you're going to get wrinkles.
43:06Second of all, Michael, I tried.
43:09I told Kylian, I was like, my guy Michael wants to talk to you.
43:12He said you're going to win the Ballon d'Or next year and it was a no.
43:16So I gave you a mention in the interview.
43:18Did he know who he was?
43:19I could try next week.
43:21Well, here's the thing.
43:24Kylian is going to be going to that game in Kazakhstan in a couple of weeks.
43:27So maybe you're going to put a word out there.
43:29I don't know.
43:30But maybe we need your help too, Michael.
43:31So do you want to give a little plea?
43:33Yeah.
43:34Kylian.
43:35Give us a pitch.
43:36Why don't you, Michael?
43:37I've been talking about you for so long now.
43:40Ever since I first laid eyes onto you.
43:44You were the one.
43:46You were the chosen one.
43:49We've got Thierry on me in the studio.
43:51He was my first love.
43:53But you are something special.
43:58Something I think about at night time.
44:03Someone who I dream about in the coldest of nights.
44:08So here's my pledge to you.
44:10Kiki, I love you.
44:12And the next time I see you, please, I want to be with you.
44:17I want to interview you.
44:19I want all of you.
44:23I want all of you.
44:24I want all of you.
44:25I want all of you.
44:26Yes.
44:27Yes.
44:28I want all of you.
44:29I want all of you.
44:30I want all of you.
44:31I want all of you.
44:32Yes.
44:33Yes.
44:34Everybody's all of you.
44:35Kiki.
44:36Oh, everyone's gone sign it.
44:37Awkward.
44:38It's clipped already.
44:39Sent to the press officer.
44:40And then in a couple of weeks in Kazakhstan, I'll make sure that that gets to him and that
44:55the message arrives and that him with a T in his eyes says, yes, you're also, what?
45:05You're the one for me or something like that.
45:07There's a little bit of discussion after your interview with Xabi Alonso about your tattoos.
45:11Yeah, showing the tats tonight, Guillaume.
45:14Oh, all right.
45:15How many have we got?
45:16Well, the piano or the fountain.
45:18I've got seven or eight.
45:20They all have a story.
45:21They all have a story.
45:22How many do you have?
45:23Come on.
45:24I'm going to go for a drink and tell a story.
45:26Well, that one, for instance.
45:29Can you see that one?
45:30No.
45:31Yeah, it says COVID.
45:32That's a force, the force of the universe that influences things that you don't see under
45:39the line, all these things that happen.
45:41Mystical.
45:42Because of that ulterior force.
45:44COVID.
45:45Okay.
45:46CDLVI.
45:47Is that like a number?
45:48To help him get that interview with...
45:50And that is a number, a Latin number.
45:52Mm.
