00:00You're watching The Postmatch Show on CBS Sports, powered by Verizon.
00:30Hello, good evening. Welcome along. So good to have you with us.
00:36We're going to talk about some of these Champions League results, including the one between Chelsea and Benfica, which Chelsea won 1-0.
00:41But first of all, let's go out to Stamford Bridge and join Mark Cucurella, who is live with the show.
00:45Cucurella! La Cucurella! La Cucurella!
00:50¿Cómo estás, mi amigo?
00:54Very good, very good. Thank you.
00:56Big win for you tonight, after some indifferent results there.
01:03Yeah, very important for us. I think it was the first game at home, after a long time without playing Champions League.
01:10I think it was important for us to win confidence and then for the fans as well, to create a good environment, because on Saturday you have another important game.
01:18Mark, how's it been for you with so many young defenders alongside you?
01:22You've almost been the leader, the elder statesman in that back four. Have you had to take on a lot more responsibility in the last few weeks?
01:28Has that message come from the manager?
01:31Well, I think, yeah, I think so. I try to help my teammates. I know it's difficult to play for a big club.
01:37And then if you are a young player, maybe you don't have this experience, but I think we have a lot of quality.
01:42Maybe we need to win a bit of confidence or to believe more in our qualities.
01:47I think we have been doing maybe silly mistakes, but we are here to learn, to improve, and every game is a new opportunity.
01:57Mark, I don't know if you know, but my team, Liverpool, lost tonight.
02:00So I'm not very happy. And you are playing them on Saturday. What are you thinking about the game? Are you confident?
02:07Yeah, I think so. I think Liverpool is a big team, but I think we play at home.
02:12We have a good opportunity. We came with a tough result last game.
02:17And I think we have a big opportunity to win three points before the international break.
02:21Mark, it's Thierry. Enhorabuena por el partido.
02:24I wanted to ask you a question. Is it important? Which I think it is for me, but I'm asking you.
02:32The boss always is changing the back four. Does it bother you or not?
02:40Well, I think the manager always tries to make the best line-up. Depends on the system that he's going to play.
02:48I think we need to be ready. It's not an excuse. We are here and we try to be always ready.
02:54When the moment arrives. And I think for different reasons, we are having a lot of changes.
03:00But I think we have the quality and it's not an excuse.
03:03We need to perform every game. And on Sunday, on Saturday, we have a good opportunity.
03:07Well, good luck for that game. But I need to ask you about something different.
03:11You know, we talk about trims on this show a lot, but your hair stands out.
03:14But it's magnifique.
03:19Thank you. Thank you. Different style.
03:23Different style, yeah. Anything else coming soon? I'd like you to see blonde again. Blonde was nice.
03:30It was difficult. It was difficult. We need to win something. If we can do something, we can be thinking about it.
03:35Mark, Mikey Richards tells me your haircut and hairstyle is his favourite in the Premier League.
03:40Yes, it is. Thank you. Thank you for the love.
03:46Mark, so good to see you. Congratulations. Thanks very much.
03:48Congratulations.
03:49Thank you very much. Good night.
03:50Thank you. Bye-bye.
03:51Bye-bye.
03:53All right, then. Was that true, by the way?
03:56I just made it up.
03:58But you know what? I think in the Premier League, I think he's had his hair pulled a few times, hasn't he?
04:03Yeah, he has, yeah.
04:04People have been red. I think they just can't help but just pull it. It's just that he needs to be pulled, doesn't it?
04:09Okay.
04:11Yeah, good shout, Jamie.
04:13So, should we take a look at the goal, then, that won the game? Chelsea 1-0 against Benfica.
04:19Here is the own goal for Benfica, actually.
04:21It is an own goal from Rios. And I mentioned Dedic on the switch there that you're going to see.
04:26I think it's Neto that will switch the ball for Garnaccio. And then Rios ends up scoring a non-goal.
04:33But this is what I'm talking about. Dedic is going to be occupied with the run of Fernandes inside, as you're going to see here.
04:39He didn't have to go. He went too tight. He doesn't know what the winger is doing on the other side.
04:43Neto finds Garnaccio. And Rios, unfortunately for him, scored a non-goal.
04:48Okay. So, let's go over to the game that you mentioned. Your game, Liverpool away against Galatasaray, Jamie.
04:55And talk about that one again. Because, obviously, like you said, not just a disappointing result tonight,
05:00but a disappointing period of time for Liverpool Football Club from your perspective.
05:04Let's take a look at the penalty incident that gave us that goal by Victor Osman.
05:09So, here we go. Let's take a look at the penalty incident.
05:12Yeah, I mean, listen, I thought it was a little bit harsh.
05:15You know, Sir Bozlade's got a natural right-back. It's Yilmazun and Aram here.
05:20It's a coming together. Listen, I think it's one of them, if it's four-year, you want the penalty.
05:24If it's against you, you think it's very harsh.
05:26You know, so, I mean, Galatasaray, I will say, you know, it was a penalty.
05:30Osserman, who caused Liverpool problems all night. Always looked dangerous going through on goal.
05:37He's obviously got a big reputation. He gets the only goal. He's up against Alisson there.
05:40But he caused, especially, Canate huge problems. I mean, who doesn't cause Canate problems right now?
05:45I mean, look at this.
05:46I mean, what happens here? He goes through Osserman.
05:49The goalkeeper, again, he was outstanding. Saves another 1v1. Gets injured.
05:52I don't know what he's done, but the injury comes from Canate again.
05:56This is happening every game. I've been a centre-back. I've made mistakes like that.
06:00But he's making that mistake every game without fail.
06:04You know, it can't go on. But the problem is, Liverpool have got no-one to replace him.
06:07But Liverpool, again, Canate involved. Listen, he's just trying to cheat and dive and get a penalty.
06:14He knows that the fella's got there before him. He knows that. But he does.
06:20Oh, Jimmy.
06:21No, he does. Listen, I think we all thought when the penalty was given, you know, when we watched the first time,
06:26he thought it wouldn't be given. We thought the defender had got there, but it wasn't the only mistake the referee made.
06:31Michael, what's it like sitting next to Jamie on a night like this?
06:37It is, um... I can't swear on this show, but, yeah.
06:42It's difficult.
06:43You have before.
06:47We all remember.
06:48Wow!
06:49We all remember.
06:49It is difficult, to say the least, shall we say.
06:53Entertaining.
06:53Football means a lot to me. And I don't like it when it doesn't go my way.
06:57What do you do when you go home? How do you, like, decompress?
07:00Well, I didn't have a great sleep last night, as you all know, I told you about it.
07:03Why? What happened when you sleep?
07:05I don't know. I got up at four in the morning to go to the toilet. I couldn't go back to sleep.
07:08I just didn't go back to sleep.
07:10But I won't sleep well tonight.
07:12In my head tonight, I'll be going through Liverpool's team against Chelsea, what slot should pick and what I'd do.
07:17Yeah, I'll be thinking about, like, who we should leave.
07:18Who would you pick?
07:20Just say midfield, the front six, say.
07:23Yeah, I think he's just almost got to go back to his team of last season and get that solid midfield three.
07:28So, Boz lay in there. You know, right back, you know, Conor Bradley's come on sub.
07:32Salah will start because he was sub.
07:34Isak or Iktiki?
07:36No, Izaak will play.
07:39Yeah, I just think Liverpool need to get back to being sort of more powerful and difficult to beat
07:44and not have as many sort of, you know, footballers and get the bigger players on the pitch.
07:49And as I said, make it difficult with Chelsea.
07:51And even Chelsea's talking about a great result.
07:53Obviously, we were watching the game as well.
07:54Benfica had a lot of chances.
07:55I think if Liverpool go there and put in, like, a normal Liverpool performance for this team,
07:59they can still win there.
08:01But they've got some...
08:02The manager's got a fixer in terms of how this team is set up.
08:05It's not right.
08:06Do you ever eat your feelings?
08:08Go home?
08:08Snack?
08:10I don't know where this is going, but I don't normally know.
08:13No, I was just wondering.
08:14I was just wondering if that was...
08:15Oh, you mean like the munchies when you get in?
08:17Yeah.
08:17No, is that what you do?
08:19I do sometimes, yeah.
08:20Do you?
08:20You do, don't you?
08:21No, not particularly, no.
08:25We get well fed here.
08:26The munchies, it's a different sort of munchies, though.
08:29Not that, Jamie, I'm talking about something else.
08:31I don't even try.
08:32What are you talking about?
08:33Anyway, let's go.
08:33What do you want about the munchies?
08:35Can you remind us what you said to Arnest Slott?
08:39Because some people don't know.
08:40I've seen it.
08:42What did you tell him?
08:44Oh, no, I wouldn't class it as telling him.
08:46He's the manager of Liverpool.
08:47No, you had an opinion?
08:48You know, yeah, I was commentating on the game and I asked him because what's really
08:52interesting, I think, with Slott, who come in and obviously, I mean, to win the league
08:57for Liverpool, I would stand it.
08:58But what he did is he took a Jürgen Klopp team and he almost took what we're watching
09:03now out of it.
09:05What we're watching right now for Liverpool was when Jürgen Klopp was trying to get the
09:09team on a journey to get to where they got to, which eventually became the best team
09:13in Europe.
09:13But in the first couple of years under Jürgen Klopp, the team was like that.
09:18It was very much end to end.
09:19And Slott came in and it looked like he just had a little bit of a calm and effect on the
09:24team.
09:25That's gone.
09:26It's almost like it's gone back to Jürgen Klopp type of team and it wasn't going well
09:30for Jürgen.
09:31And I thought Slott was sort of a slightly different type of manager.
09:34Now, it might be the personnel that they've brought in.
09:36It's not quite gelling.
09:37But I'm just, I'm intrigued the way it's gone back to that from where it was that sort
09:42of calm and influence last season.
09:43And we lost that basketball feel that we had, as I said, had great times in the year.
09:47It's not criticism by any means, but it was a different style of football.
09:51What are you laughing at?
09:52You're having a bad day, aren't you?
09:53You keep popping out.
09:55I know.
09:56Honest to God.
09:57Just put it back in.
09:59No.
10:00I don't even want people in my ear anymore, honestly.
10:02I don't need people in my ear.
10:03No sleep.
10:04Liverpool lost in your ear.
10:05All right, guys, we're going to go to a break.
10:08We're going to talk about some of the Champions League debutantes when we come back from this
10:12break.
10:12So we can talk about Karat Almaty, about Pachos, about Bodo Glimt.
10:18We will take you through all three of those as we come back.
10:35We will take you through all three of those as we come back.
10:48We will take you through all three of those as we come back.
10:53Hello, hello. Good evening. We're trying to fix Jamie's ear.
11:00It's a problem. Are you all right, Jamie? Let's see.
11:02Are you all right? Let's put Rob to the test.
11:04OK, all right. People wind me up.
11:07On this table.
11:08So there are three sides that are in action tonight
11:11who are Champions League debutantes this season
11:14who are playing their first game at home in this Champions League season.
11:17So we want to talk about them.
11:19The first of them being Kairat against Real Madrid.
11:22Listen, it was a big loss, ultimately, for Kairat against Real Madrid.
11:26But it could have been very different.
11:28It could have been different. It was from the kick-off.
11:29They started brightly and...
11:32This would have been one of the great moments of the Champions League this season, wouldn't it?
11:36It really would.
11:37And then just here, it was sat payoff, didn't get the correct purchase.
11:43Not enough.
11:44Not the correct pronunciation, Ian.
11:46LAUGHTER
11:48But the penalty incident, you know, we mentioned this earlier on,
11:57the goalkeeper, I'm sure he'll learn from that.
11:59Very young man.
12:01Go to the ball.
12:02Doesn't get there.
12:03But Mbappé, the man who's on absolutely fire now,
12:06going to be one of the big favourites for the Ballon d'Or.
12:11That's the face of a hat-trick.
12:16He's got from the business now, Thierry, isn't it?
12:18I mean, he's on a completely different level to anyone else.
12:20He looks lean, first step, his back.
12:24Everything looks like he used to be.
12:26Have a look at this.
12:26He scored a lot of goals last year, but the way he was playing wasn't the same.
12:30He looks on point.
12:31Long ball from Thibaut Courtois and you're not going to catch him when that happens.
12:35Great finish.
12:37What a finish.
12:40Look at that. Just a little dink.
12:45Wow.
12:46He's on fire, is that lad?
12:47He looks different this year.
12:48Yeah, but and then, I mean, Mbappé gets his hat-trick, doesn't he, there?
12:53Lovely finish.
12:55Oh, wow.
12:56This is what I'm talking about, Mbappé, he's back.
12:59All the people criticising him, I stood by him.
13:05What a finish.
13:07That was absolutely brilliant.
13:10Hey, we heard nothing back from when you made your appeal to him, did we?
13:14No, he'd be coming back, but this man, Kamavinga,
13:16I mean, he comes on and he makes a run into the box.
13:20Lovely little play from Rodrigo and then the header to make it 4-0.
13:25Them darting runs, game was over at this point.
13:30Lovely little finish, keeping no chance, no man's land.
13:33Lovely little goal to make it 4.
13:35Yeah, they finish it off.
13:39Diaz, he's just here at the back post.
13:41I'm not surprised by the way.
13:44Now, the big result for Real Madrid, they're expecting to win, of course,
13:46but they're really poor results in La Liga, didn't they, against, you know,
13:50their arch rivals from Madrid.
13:53So, a little nice victory for them, and the champions need to get back on track.
13:56But, hey, could I ask Thierry a question?
13:58Do you want to ask me, Matt, can Jamie ask Thierry a question?
14:02No, Thierry, I just wanted to ask you, on the back, remember this time last year,
14:07we were talking about Mbappe, and we talked about him playing, you know,
14:10Vinicius was in that left wing position, you were talking about,
14:12you weren't convinced he could play as a centre forward.
14:15Has anything changed in his game now as a centre forward?
14:18I would say that one thing that's very important that I afraid him is that
14:24Xabi Alonso said that's his team now.
14:27And you can see his mind is at peace with what he needs to do.
14:34Does he have the number nine role of, you know, holding the ball,
14:41running into the channel and being a pest in terms of putting pressure?
14:45No, but what he does right now is totally different.
14:49You can see the confidence.
14:50You can see also, I mentioned before, he's lean.
14:53That first step is back.
14:54He runs the line a bit better than what he used to do before.
14:57He understands who he's playing with.
14:59But, yeah, like I said, you know, is he your typical number nine?
15:04No, he's not.
15:05But does he have the numbers of a number nine?
15:07Like what he did last year was ridiculous.
15:10But this year is different.
15:11You can see the desire is back.
15:14But one thing is very important.
15:16When you have the trust of your coach and what I would say Xabi Alonso didn't say,
15:22I think, freed him.
15:24OK, good stuff.
15:25Well, Guillaume Balaguet, of course, you would have seen him earlier on in the pregame.
15:28If you're watching, he was there for us.
15:30He travelled all the way to Kazakhstan to go to this game in Almaty.
15:33And he sent us his thoughts after the final whistle.
15:37Can you hear the noise, Kate?
15:39The result is very important in football, but it's not the only thing.
15:43It's not the most important thing either sometimes, especially in a week like this.
15:47It's been an opportunity for the 280 Ramadi fans that travel here, for crews like ours,
15:52to get to know Kazakhstan and Almaty and Kairat, the club itself.
15:57All right.
15:58They perhaps didn't show that they belong to this level tonight or even against Sporting
16:03Club before, but what they've shown is a hospitality that I'll remember for good.
16:09Actually, I've tried also horse meat and horse milk with alcohol.
16:15That was interesting.
16:16But here, they're just actually happy that this has happened here, that Real Madrid has visited.
16:23OK, they lost 5-0, but for them, for the Kairat fans, I think they had a good night.
16:31OK, let's talk about another of these teams that is playing in their first Champions League
16:34season and had their first home game.
16:35That would be Pafos, a Cypriot team playing against Bayern Munich.
16:39And again, it was a bit of an ugly game for them.
16:41Yeah, it was.
16:42I mean, at one point, Bayern Munich, I mean, right from the start, they started to toy with them.
16:47Michael Lisset had an outstanding game.
16:50Harry Kane, once again, was doing whatever he's been doing for a very long time, scoring goals at will.
16:59But you can see, if you give that time to Michael Lisset to pick someone,
17:02and then Harry Kane to be able to pick his spot.
17:05And look at the angle, he has no angle.
17:08It's ridiculous.
17:09This is why, you know when people mention always XG or whatever, it's different for Harry Kane?
17:14Yes, yeah.
17:16This was a really good goal, though.
17:17Alise involved again, Thierry.
17:19Got a little one-two here with Jackson Pagre.
17:23Just outstanding.
17:25So much confidence oozing through these players at the moment.
17:29And last season, I didn't fancy them, but this season, I think they could go all the way,
17:35the way they played at this moment in time.
17:36Well, we're talking about Harry Kane, but they've certainly got good backup.
17:40And Jackson, he gets his first goal for Bayern Munich.
17:45He will get goals, there's no doubt about that.
17:47He's cooking.
17:48Alise always involved, isn't he? I love Alise.
17:50But as I said, Jackson's not bad backup.
17:52What are you thinking about going on to win the Champions League?
17:54Yeah, Harry Kane already is on his 18th goal of the season.
18:00But how is that even possible?
18:04Do they count training?
18:07This guy is just, he's not normal.
18:09I'm happy for him, what a player he is.
18:11But the goal of the night, it came for Paphos, didn't it?
18:15Look at this from Orsic.
18:17The way he hits it across the ball into that top corner, wow!
18:21A little bit of a bounce.
18:23Look at the purchase, the technique, the spin, the bend, they had absolutely everything.
18:30And then, Alise finishes.
18:32I mean, that's the thing that people will mention with Nicholas Jackson.
18:35That sometimes the 1v1, he doesn't finish well.
18:37What a thing!
18:37But the little step, yeah, you will see, Michael Alise at one point is going to take,
18:41he's going to have a little step to make sure he goes, you see?
18:45He went a bit further, so he can make sure that he can go around the ball to keep it on target.
18:51Yes, I mean, Michael is just, he's a different guy.
18:55Like, I just, again, we always talk about, I don't understand how the Premier League teams just let that guy go.
19:03Well, fair play to Vincent Kompany and Bayern Munich, but this guy should be in the Prem.
19:08I don't know, I don't understand, but, you know, it's good for Bayern Munich.
19:12So, the other debutante team that we wanted to tell you about that were playing their first home game were Bodo Glimt from Norway.
19:17They were playing at home against Tottenham Hotspur.
19:20Nearly came away with a famous win, nearly got a really good result here, Jamie.
19:23Penalty incident, Kate.
19:29It was smooth.
19:31Well, we've been working together for a while now.
19:38And the referee gives a penalty.
19:39Listen, we know in this competition you're going to get penalties a lot easier than maybe in other leagues.
19:45You probably saw that with the Liverpool game as well.
19:47It's just a challenge there, but he runs up like Harry Kane.
19:52He wears the number nine like Harry Kane and he misses a penalty like Harry Kane did for England against France.
19:57That is a bad penalty, isn't it?
20:00Oh, it's a poor one.
20:00Really bad.
20:01Exactly like yours, to be fair, in that pre-season for Man City.
20:04But then, hey, look at this for a finish.
20:07This is really nice.
20:08Comes in, fakes will go one way, curls it into the far corner.
20:13But they're on a plastic pitch in fairness to Spurs.
20:16It's a bit difficult.
20:17It's so plastic, plastic for him.
20:20Wow.
20:20What a finish that was.
20:22A great moment for him.
20:24The composure picks this spot.
20:26Oh.
20:26Vicaria, no chance.
20:28Really good finish.
20:33And then, Micah, you thought that, uh,
20:36Tottenham came back into it, but there's going to be a,
20:38a foul as that hopefully we will show.
20:42And it's been disallowed.
20:43I think there's a pulling of the, from the bin right there.
20:47Mm-hmm.
20:48So the goal wasn't allowed, because you would have to think that,
20:51that player being pulled there would have cleared the ball.
20:55So it was disallowed.
20:58And then, 2-0, what I know what Spurs are trying to do here.
21:02Goalkeeper involved to Jamie reference during the game.
21:06But again, take nothing away from the finish.
21:09Fakes a goal one way, comes back onto his left foot.
21:11Oh, finish, what a finish that is.
21:13I mean, look, he's got his arms up the goalkeeper.
21:16Okay, Van de Ven played a bad pass to him, but just, just get rid of it.
21:20Ultimately,
21:23Defenders got to be better than that.
21:24But take nothing away from the finish there.
21:27Excellent finish.
21:28Yes, but listen, we've seen Spurs in these positions a lot.
21:31Last season, lost a lot of games.
21:34But maybe there's a little bit more backbone in this team under Thomas Frank.
21:372-0 down, they come back here, Van de Ven.
21:41Big, powerful centre-half right in the middle of the goal.
21:45It's a brilliant delivery into the box.
21:47Probably just onside.
21:49Good idea.
21:49And gets them back into the game.
21:54With 20-25 minutes to go, so it was always on for them.
21:57And then the substitution, Micah?
21:59Yeah, the sub was an own goal.
22:01At the time when I was watching it, I thought it was a Richarlison goal.
22:06To be honest, they're working well down the side.
22:09And the goalkeeper saves it and then he comes off the defence.
22:12I mean, there's nothing he can do there.
22:14He was just on the field, just came on, right?
22:16He can't react in this situation.
22:18The ball's coming back too fast.
22:20It just came on, Micah, no?
22:21It just came on, yeah.
22:22I mean, but that's unlucky.
22:24He can't do that.
22:25He was checking to see if Richarlison was offside, but he was onside.
22:29But yeah, he was running away with the ball like he scored, but it didn't come off to him.
22:34OK, so we've got another half an hour to go in this post-game, I believe.
22:37We've got another four games to still take you through.
22:39So we will do that after a very short break, everybody. Stay with us.
23:09Oh, welcome back. It is so good to have you still with us.
23:25We're so happy that you're still here.
23:27What's your name again? Can't squat?
23:29Can't squat.
23:33OK, so we've got a couple of teams that got some big wins tonight that will take you through the highlights of their game.
23:37So Marseille against Ajax, then Atletico against Frankfurt.
23:40But let's start with that Marseille game in France.
23:42Thierry, 4-0, the final score.
23:44Shall we go through some of the action here?
23:46Yeah, it was a great game, great start, especially your man, Micah.
23:51He was on fire.
23:53I love that movement through the way and the standing that he had with Aubameyang.
23:58And then as soon as he goes, there was no catching him back.
24:01I mean, he used to play in Holland.
24:04So for him, scoring against Ajax is always a little dense.
24:08Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, Samba, yeah?
24:10Samba, yeah.
24:12Maybe Samba should make an appearance in table time.
24:15Yes, he should.
24:16Why do you do that?
24:17But it wasn't one, it was two.
24:19And this was a wonderful finish, too.
24:21My eyes are not ready for that.
24:23You have to respect Samba.
24:24Wow, really good finish.
24:26Samba's at near point.
24:27Wow, he was on fire in this game, wasn't it, Tietje?
24:31Bad job.
24:35And then Greenwood.
24:37Listen, we obviously have no issues with him off the pitch.
24:40There's never been any dealt with his talent here.
24:42No, seriously.
24:43I mean, it's been magnificent for Marseille.
24:48And, you know, people always, you know, it reminds me of a guy that was outstanding for Marseille.
24:52Chris Waddell, lefty, English.
24:55Obviously, Waddell did way more, but Greenwood is on his way to perform well there.
25:00And then, Abadiang, Jamie.
25:02Yeah, still going strong.
25:03Still going strong.
25:05Gets an assist for Bacau.
25:06He was the man the last time I asked.
25:08I won a trophy.
25:08Can you believe that?
25:10Yeah, he was the man.
25:11Ooh, first Champions League goal since October 2022 for Abadiang.
25:17Cheers for that, Sonny.
25:18I'll do that line on my head straight away.
25:20Everybody, speaking of table time and Samba, the Samba edition of the table time,
25:25let's find out how you guys have been voting.
25:28Oh, yeah.
25:29Is it coming back?
25:30Table time.
25:31What's the deal?
25:32Hang on.
25:33Give us table time.
25:34It's time to move on.
25:36Wow.
25:37Wow.
25:38Okay.
25:38Can we have another vote, though?
25:40What?
25:41Micah and Jamie, or just Jamie on his own?
25:43No.
25:43No, no, no.
25:44At the moment in time.
25:46No.
25:46No?
25:47No.
25:47You can't do it by yourself?
25:48You've got 24 hours.
25:50Just get a load of anti-inflammatories, Dan, and you'll be okay.
25:52Could we get him crutches or something, all right?
25:54Something, yeah.
25:54Something to get him up there.
25:55Okay.
25:55Crutches help?
25:56Crutches or something.
25:57I'll go up with something.
25:58He's not hurt his leg.
26:00Oh, dear.
26:01You just need some sleep, don't you?
26:03Yeah.
26:03Yeah.
26:04If Liverpool just scored a goal.
26:06Okay, well, I'm glad.
26:07Anyway, I think that's good voting, everybody.
26:09Well done.
26:10Atletico Madrid against Eintracht Frankfurt.
26:13Another big win for Atletico.
26:155-1 the final score.
26:16Was it 5-1 against Real Madrid as well?
26:185-2.
26:185-2.
26:195-2.
26:19Okay, there you go.
26:205-2, yes.
26:20Close.
26:21Close, but not the one.
26:22Thierry, first goal for Raspadori.
26:26Yes, Raspadori, as you're going to see here, it looks like the ball was dead on the other side
26:31for Simeone.
26:32It's going to be a little deflection here because Alvarez wanted to have a goal, deflated by, I think, Arthur, Thierry, and then Raspadori to finish it to make it 1-0.
26:47And it's his first goal for Atletico as well, Thierry.
26:53And then we have to talk about the defenders, though.
26:55Love the movement.
26:56Llanomal, he makes a move in the back post, a little tapping.
27:00He scores back to back for the first time in his career.
27:03Don't worry, I've got all the stats ready, TT.
27:05You can trust big nukes.
27:08That, by the way, the angle of, I think it's Julian Alvarez up to the corner, the way he bent it first.
27:15And then Griezmann, a favourite of the show, been one of the great players in this tournament for the last sort of 10 years or so.
27:22Oh!
27:22His 200th goal for Atletico, absolutely a legendary figure.
27:28Oh!
27:30Brilliant player for France, brilliant player for this club.
27:33Never yet been on the show.
27:35Never been on the show.
27:36Don't think so, has he?
27:37No, no.
27:39Might need you to put a request in there, Thierry.
27:41Thierry can make his magic.
27:43And then...
27:47The manager's son.
27:48Again.
27:49No, no, no.
27:49I'm just looking at the way Julian Alvarez bends those balls in the first...
27:53just in between the men on the first post and the post.
27:57It's lethal.
28:00Wow.
28:00Simeone and then...
28:03Oops.
28:03Kind of let's see an incident there.
28:06Yeah, you could see, you could see that Griezmann's going to flip the ball over and the ball is going to touch the end.
28:12I was going to see now the defender.
28:13Yeah.
28:15Whoops.
28:16Yeah.
28:16I'm looking for him.
28:17Yeah.
28:18Unlucky, but it's a pain.
28:19Yeah, a little Panenka.
28:22Alvarez!
28:23Yeah, the goalkeeper goes, I don't know if he wanted to go there, but nevertheless, not enough for the goalkeeper to take it out.
28:31And look, he's on fire.
28:33Six goals in his last three appearances.
28:35Yeah, assist also, let's not forget about that.
28:38You know, he can score free kicks, as you saw against Real Madrid.
28:41Um, you know what I think of him.
28:44Yeah, good result for Atletico Madrid, that one.
28:46Eintracht Frankfurt's worst defeat in Europe in 25 years.
28:49We will come back after a short break, everybody.
28:51We've still got more action for you.
28:52Stay with us.
28:53Eintracht Frankfurt's worst defeat in Europe in 25 years.
29:10Jinto.
29:12Eintracht Frankfurt's worst defeat in Europe in 25 years.
29:18Eintracht Frankfurt's worst defeat in Europe in 25 years.
29:22T기가 he was a champion in a league.
29:35Hi, everybody.
29:36Okay, so let's take you through the game between Inter Milan at home against a Slavia Prague 3-0
29:42win for Inter Milan.
29:43This one, Lautaro Martinez opening the scoring for Inter.
29:45Achorro, you watched this one, didn't you?
29:48You saw his goals?
29:49The first friend of the show was man of the match, Marcus Terrat.
29:51Okay, actually, but it's good to steal out our back, scoring goals, obviously, this one is a gift, it's an easy one, but for them to go really far in the Champions League and also in the league, you need this man to be scoring, and not only Marcus, it was important, people started to question him at the beginning of the season, and you can see, although it was an easy goal, how he is and how he reacted, it did matter, this is what I'm saying, this is why Marcus got man of the match, he terrorized.
30:21the whole team, every second time, step over, my man though, don't freeze, if he misses there, I mean, we have an issue, he's still got to make the run, look at him from out to him, totally, fantastic, and then Martinez again, he's some striker, isn't he, we talk about Harry Kane on the show, a lot, and rightly so, but his front 2-4, who overlaps, yes, centre back, this is a team who knows to play 3 at the back, Kate,
30:51that's done, look at him, and Martinez there again, killer, in front of the goal.
30:58As you mentioned, TT, Marcus Tarram, nephew, man of the match, like he was on match day one as well.
31:04Yeah, I mean, we were talking about that, if you don't score, and your team win 3-0, and you're a striker, you're man of the match, you must have played well.
31:11Yeah.
31:13Very nice, okay, let's talk about Etienne.
31:15Would you have preferred that, or would you prefer to have scored the goal, would you prefer to be man of the match, and be the best player on the pitch, or to have got a goal, because he hasn't scored tonight?
31:22Yeah, I didn't, I wasn't, as you know, that type of striker, like, if I didn't help, and we lost, I would have been upset, regardless if I scored, I didn't score, if I didn't do what I had to do for my team to perform.
31:33But I like this type of performance, you know, he goes into the channel, he gives the ball, he's not greedy, he knows Lautaro Martinez also needs to score goals, so, yeah, that type of performance, I wasn't the type of striker to think, like, okay, I didn't score today, like, I'm not going to celebrate, or I'm not going to, you know, we want 3-0, I didn't score.
31:50So, no, I prefer that, I always talk to, I always say to you guys, that I prefer an assist than a goal.
31:56Do you do the same on this show, with assists?
31:59Sorry?
31:59You know?
32:00Yes, I prefer an assist than a goal.
32:02You prefer a good show, rather than you shining, is what you're saying.
32:05Yeah, exactly that, yes.
32:09Okay.
32:10So, Inter Milan, one of three teams, with a 100% record so far in this competition, obviously still a bunch of play to come tomorrow as well.
32:16Let's talk about Atalanta at home against Bruges.
32:19Atalanta with a home win.
32:21After losing in their match day one opener, let's take a look.
32:25Yes, they won a lot with Solis sparring, as you can see here, a good goal.
32:34Oof.
32:35Goes back, cut left, push right, that gives you the edge to be able to bend it, and that was a great goal, and you thought that maybe I was going to be a win for Bruges.
32:47Oof.
32:50Oof.
32:51Oof.
32:55On Passilic, goalkeeper.
32:57Yes.
32:58I think it's a penalty.
33:00Who takes it, Jamie?
33:01Some absence.
33:03Some absence.
33:04Hey, I'll help you out, don't worry.
33:06Yeah, they come off the bench, didn't they?
33:08So, made a difference with the penalty, and then that momentum when you're at home, go on and get that late goal.
33:14Passilic.
33:15Passilic.
33:16Really good ball, isn't it?
33:19That's the first post move.
33:20Nobody reacts.
33:21Look at them daydreaming.
33:22Oh.
33:26Loving celebration.
33:27It's just great.
33:28What about, but he loves it.
33:31Yeah, important win for Atalanta, that one.
33:34Important news, or good news, Jose Mourinho, we were talking about him earlier in the show.
33:38We wanted to hear from him.
33:39We have heard from him.
33:40We've spoken to Peter Schmeichel at Stamford Bridge after Benfica's loss to Chelsea over there.
33:44We will hear that before we leave you tonight.
33:46We'll be back in just a minute.
33:48We'll be back in just a minute.
34:18We'll be back in just a minute.
34:48Serginio Dest and Ricardo Pepe's PSV.
34:51Will we see three Americans on the pitch?

35:20The Junkers
35:25The Junkers
35:27The Junkers
35:29The Junkers
35:31The Junkers
35:35OK, everybody, welcome back. One more time, we promised to get you Jose Mourinho's interview with Peter Schmeichel before the end of the night, so here you go.
35:47Well, Jose, first of all, thank you very much for talking to us.
35:49It's my pleasure.
35:50Let's not talk too much about the game, but more about the occasion you're coming back here to Stamford Bridge. How is that for you?
35:56You played many years in England, you know how it is.
36:00People in the UK, they have this culture, they don't forget the people that gave them happiness.
36:08And it happened when I came here with United, when I came here with Inter, it happened.
36:15I was waiting for the same. I think when you go to Old Trafford, it's not different. It's their culture.
36:24And of course in the game, my focus was the game and try to help the boys, but of course I listened to it and I had to say thanks to the guys.
36:36And your next game is here in England as well. There's another connection to how it all started for you because you go to Newcastle, obviously Bobby Robson's club.
36:45Yeah.
36:46That's going to be another emotional return to English football for you.
36:50It is. I never worked for the club, but the club up there, they know how much I love and how much respect I have for them.
37:00I learned that love from Mr. Robson. I played so many times at St. James, didn't win many times, to be honest.
37:10But every time I go there, I have the feeling. And especially since Bobby passed away, to go there and to look at his statue there always gives me a little bit of sadness.
37:24But at the same time, happiness to be so close to such an amazing personality.
37:30And you saw it today. Everyone thinks she's an amazing personality. We miss you here in England. It's nice to see you back.
37:36Thank you very much.
37:37Thank you so much.
37:38For spending time with us.
37:39Thank you so much.
37:40I will.
37:41Ah, wonderful. We haven't spoken to Peter yet. We are going to speak to him still, so don't worry about that.
37:45A very serene Jose Mourinho, wasn't it? Oh, okay. They're not sure if they can stay. They might be busy.
37:51I'm afraid everybody to stay after 11. Well, I'll stay. I'll speak to you, Peter. Very serene. Jose, did you not think?
37:57Yeah. Calm.
37:58Very good.
37:59Mm-hmm. Enjoyed that.
38:00Seven, six, five.
38:02I'm not hearing the count. Are you hearing the count?
38:04Yeah.
38:06Okay, everybody. CBS Sports Network, we are going to leave you, but we will continue on Paramount Plus.
38:11So CBS Sports Network, I don't hear a count. Thanks very much.
38:14Okay, Peter Schmeichel. I promised you, Peter Schmeichel, here he is.
38:19Finally.
38:21Peter, you got to speak to Jose, to the man himself. Obviously disappointing result for them, for Benfica tonight against Chelsea.
38:26But what did you make of his demeanour?
38:28Well, first of all, let me just say, he showed CBS and all of us a lot of respect.
38:34Because when you do the job that I do, you get told by the UEFA people who you actually get.
38:40You ask for somebody. And of course we ask for him and they say, there's no way he's going to do a minimum.
38:45That was kind of like five interviews.
38:47But he saw us and he came over and we got two questions with him and that was really, really nice.
38:52I mean, as you could see, he was, I won't say he was emotional, but he was strained, really strained.
38:57He, even before the game when I spoke to him, he sounded like he was, you know, a sore throat.
39:04But here, I could just see he was completely drained. It was just a lot for him. So maybe a lot of emotions.
39:09I know his family still lives here in Chelsea. So he is really, really coming back home.
39:15And of course, you know, you come here and you lose the game and the way they lost the game, you know, all that disappointment played in as well.
39:23Peter, I just wanted to just mention, you talk about getting Jose in there and obviously your maturity as a man now.
39:31You're loved in those, you know, mixed zones in there, as I said.
39:35But you've come a long way because there was an incident a couple of weeks ago.
39:39Where's this going?
39:40I know.
39:41A few weeks ago that I've seen.
39:43But it took me back to something that happened 30 years ago.
39:46How you dealt with a support system on the pitch.
39:53But look at that.
39:54Oh, wow.
39:55But when I talk about someone finding themselves and maturing themselves,
40:00I mean, look at this.
40:02Look how much you've changed.
40:04Look at you now.
40:05Look at you.
40:06Calming people.
40:07Look at this.
40:08Look at this.
40:09Look.
40:10Look.
40:11Calming everything down before the centre of trouble.
40:13Now the peacemaker.
40:15Oh, Peter.
40:16Actually, what was wrong with the first pitch?
40:19I prefer the first one, to be honest.
40:21You had to leave.
40:22You had to leave.
40:23You had to go out.
40:24Peter, I get to see you tomorrow.
40:25Oh, yes.
40:26I'm looking forward to it.
40:27Me too.
40:28Have you prepared yourself?
40:29You've got good questions for me.
40:30Oh, God, I hope so.
40:31Yeah, we're doing an episode of Kicking It With Peter Schmeichel tomorrow.
40:32Oh, wow.
40:33Yes.
40:34Oh, is that going to go really deep?
40:35I hope so.
40:36Well, you know, Peter's a very thoughtful person, so I think it will.
40:37Peter's always got thoughtful answers, doesn't he?
40:39Just so you know, mine did quite well, Pete, so you have to step your game up, mate.
40:43Oh, is it all about the numbers?
40:44Well, it's a numbers game, isn't it?
40:45It's a numbers game.
40:46How many numbers did he do?
40:47Did he do more than cherries?
40:48Kay, can I just ask you something?
41:01Yes, go ahead.
41:03Has Micah done it before me?
41:05Micah did do it before me.
41:07Yeah.
41:08Why?
41:09Do you know what, Peter, I don't request the guests.
41:11I don't get to make those requests, so that's all on production, I'm afraid.
41:15Not taking responsibility, yeah?
41:16responsibility. No, I am not taking responsibility for that one. We'll make it better, you and me,
41:22Peter. Let's up those numbers. Let's up the bar a little bit. We'll see you tomorrow. Thank you so
41:27much. Good to see you. Take care. Well, you've all done three minutes over time. Thank you so much.
41:35It's been good to sit with you. We will be back tomorrow, everybody. Hopefully you will have a
41:40better night's sleep tonight. One person we would like to wish a very, very good night's sleep to
41:45tonight is Rowena. Behind the scenes, we love her. She's a huge part of this team. It is her
41:50birthday today. So happy birthday. Enjoy the rest of the world. Yay! Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday,
42:02dear Rowena. Happy birthday to you.
42:13Rowena, you have an hour left, so we hope you enjoy it. An hour left of her birthday? No,
42:19she's an hour left of her birthday. Yes. Have a good one. Relax. Everybody, we'll be back
42:25tomorrow. Have a good one. Thank you so much for watching. God bless. Good night. See you all
42:29tomorrow. We'll be back tomorrow.
42:31An hour.
