00:00All right, I'm here to do, uh, sort of an unboxing. Yeah, pretty much an unboxing of something that I think is actually really cool. Now, um, sorry, I just needed to mute my computer.
00:21Um, basically, if, uh, if you don't know, you probably do by now, I went to Japan recently. I also went to Japan earlier this year, specifically Tokyo, and, um, this, and, uh, there were several things that I was introduced to by a friend of mine who has been there before, um, one of which being the Tokyo transit system and how you pay for it.
00:49Basically, you can sign up for what is known as a, an IC card, and it's one of two. You can either sign up for Suica or Pasmo. Those are two different companies that basically allow you to charge a card with money at various stations, and it'll, and the, uh, the money allows you to get through the various gates at the different stations, and, uh, basically just ride the Tokyo Metro.
01:19Um, and other metros around Japan, um, and everything. I specifically got signed up for a Suica card, which is a green and silver card with a penguin as their mascot, because Suica means penguin in Japanese.
01:32So, yeah. And what does this have to do with this? Basically, Nintendo, at the beginning of this year, if not late last year, released these really cool things that are recreations of old Famicom slash Nintendo, or NES cartridges, but mainly just the original Famicom, because I think the cartridges were changed over here, and with later iterations of the NES in Japan.
02:00Um, and what these are, are the, are IC card, uh, cases, holders, whatever you want to call them, based on five different Nintendo games from the NES era.
02:15This being, uh, this being, uh, a mix of Mario 2, the Japanese one, for some reason, I don't know why not the first one, uh, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid 1, uh, and the two volumes of Famicom Detective Club, which does have a remake on the Switch.
02:35Which, basically, that was just, like, a, like, a game and its sequel. I'm not sure what the hell goes on in it, but I'm assuming it's a detective game, because, well, just the title.
02:46But, yeah. I don't think it was originally released outside of Japan until the remake. So, yeah. Um, or remakes.
02:54But, yeah. Um, so, that is what this is. And, to give you guys a, this, preview of what this is, I have my Suica card in this, so I'm not taking it out.
03:06But this is what this is. It looks like a floppy disk, because that's, I'm pretty sure what the cartridges were back in the 80s and 90s.
03:13Or, at least, the 80s. Which would make sense. Um, and you load the Suica card, or whatever IC card you have, on the top here, or through the top here.
03:25And you have this thing, which basically makes it a keychain. I would just carry it around in my hand, with having the, uh, the chain around one of my fingers.
03:33And, yeah. And you can see, it's a Japanese logo for the first Legend of Zelda game. It's called The Hyrule Fantasy.
03:40And I'm assuming that in Japanese it says The Legend of Zelda. So, yeah. This is very interesting. Um, see, I mean, you have everything in Japanese.
03:50Side A, 1986 Nintendo, made in Japan. And then the back, side B. Same stuff, just different. Slightly different formatting.
04:00So, yeah. And that's actually really, really cool. So, in terms of this box. Um, if you get these separately in Japan, which you can.
04:09There's five of them. There's five of them. They are basically blind packs. Unless, if you get the full box, then you get all five at once.
04:16I, I didn't know this before, um, I looked up the information after I got back from Japan for the first time.
04:24Um, and, as a result, um, I got one of these. And it was in a blind pack. And it was the first volume of Famicom Detective Club.
04:38Yeah. Um, so when I went back to Japan, I just got the full set. Because, yeah, why not?
04:44So, you have on the front here, um, I'm assuming what the name of this is in Japanese. The Nintendo logo.
04:52Picture of the Japanese NES. A.K.A. the Famicom. Computer Disk System. This is Disk System 5.
05:00Then on the spine, er, the side here, you have a preview of these.
05:04One being for The Legend of Zelda. The other being for Mario 2.
05:07Two, you load up your IC card, which looks like the Suica cards and everything.
05:12And then on the other side, you have the other three that are in this.
05:15Like I said, Metroid and the two Famicom Detective Club things.
05:20And then you have these. So, yeah.
05:21Just a warning, if you plan on going to Japan and getting these, uh, which, these are only available in Japan.
05:27They are only available to ship in Japan.
05:29Because they are, you can order them on Nintendo Japan's website.
05:32But, again, they only ship in Japan.
05:35This will run you about 50 bucks.
05:37Yeah, a little bit over 50 bucks.
05:39It's like 7,000 something yen.
05:41So, yeah. Just to let you know.
05:44And Nintendo does not do tax-free shopping at the Nintendo store.
05:47They do at the Pokemon centers for no reason.
05:49Or for some reason.
05:50But for no reason whatsoever, they don't do the Nintendo store doing that.
05:57But, yeah.
05:58So, I did open these up when I was still in Japan just to take a look at them.
06:02But, yeah. So, you have one of these.
06:03Um, which I think this is the second thing of Famicom Detective Club.
06:07Um, yeah.
06:10So, you have that.
06:11Which, I actually like the cover of this.
06:12I like the art.
06:14Looks like, uh, a, um...
06:15A copy of, uh, what is it?
06:20Um, it was like, like, uh, an 80s poster for, like, Karate Kid or something.
06:26So, yeah.
06:26So, that's actually really cool.
06:28Anything like that.
06:29Um, I don't think you guys need to see much more of that.
06:31Because, um, you already know what one of these looks like.
06:35Because I have it right here.
06:35It's literally just a yellow, uh...
06:42Um...
06:45Trying to remember what the fu-
06:45I- I said that thing a bit ago.
06:48Um, floppy disk.
06:51So, yeah.
06:51Um, I think this is the first thing of
06:54Famicom Detective Club.
07:02Yep.
07:08Uh, uh...
07:10The thing for the pain is
07:11outside of this thing.
07:20So, yeah.
07:21Then this is the one that had
07:22like, Zelda in it.
07:38Box is a little bigger
07:39because I had to try to open it
07:40because it got...
07:41The- the flap
07:42when you open it
07:43got stuck on
07:44the sticker
07:46that keeps the plastic
07:48inside closed.
07:49And this should be, uh...
07:52I think, Metroid.
07:58Yep.
07:59Metroid.
08:01Kind of surprised on Metroid
08:03because, um...
08:05Metroid, while there-
08:06there are some fans in Japan,
08:07it's way more popular
08:08overseas, like in the U.S.
08:11And this should be Mario 2.
08:15Again, just really surprised
08:16that they're-
08:17that they did this
08:18for Mario 2.
08:20Specifically the Japanese one
08:21instead of, uh,
08:23Mario 1.
08:26Because
08:26Mario 1
08:27is pretty much
08:29the more,
08:30um...
08:32the more readily, like,
08:35popular of the two,
08:36more well-known
08:37and everything.
08:37especially when, like,
08:40you know,
08:40they released it in Japan.
08:41They didn't release Mario 2
08:43until, I think,
08:45one of the
08:45SNES compilations
08:47where they called it
08:49Mario 2 The Lost Levels
08:51or just Mario The Lost Levels
08:53um...
08:55internationally.
08:57Because
08:57for
08:58international audiences,
08:59Mario 2 was-
09:00was, like,
09:01deemed too hard
09:02for, um...
09:05a lot of people
09:06because it was made
09:07to be harder
09:08than the original game.
09:10Um...
09:11Because I think
09:11a lot of people
09:12probably deemed
09:12the first one harder
09:13so they did-
09:14or easy,
09:15really easy,
09:15so they made it harder.
09:17Um...
09:18So it's more a thing
09:19for challenge players.
09:21Um...
09:21So they turned
09:22a game called
09:23Doki Doki Panic
09:24into Mario 2 USA.
09:27So...
09:28Yeah,
09:28just if you don't know
09:29the history there
09:30of
09:31the game.
09:33So, yeah.
09:34Which is why
09:35they named
09:36Mario 2 Japan
09:37Mario The Lost Levels
09:39or Super Mario
09:39The Lost Levels
09:40or it was just
09:41Super Mario 2 The Lost Levels.
09:42I don't know.
09:43But they named it that
09:45or it seems to differentiate it
09:46from the USA version.
09:48But, yeah.
09:49And it's funny
09:49because Mario 2 USA
09:51is where we get
09:52a lot of the, um...
09:54Or not a lot of,
09:54but at least some
09:55of the more iconic
09:56enemies
09:57in the franchise.
09:59So that's kind of funny.
10:01But, yeah.
10:01So this is basically
10:02it for this.
10:03I just wanted to
10:04show this off
10:04because I thought
10:05this was really cool.
10:05So if you're in Japan
10:07and you go to
10:08a Nintendo store
10:09and you don't know
10:10about these
10:10or you don't have these
10:11pick that up.
10:13Pick that entire pack up
10:14because, again,
10:16blind packs
10:16if you don't do that.
10:18Um...
10:18I hate blind packs.
10:20But, yeah.
10:21Um...
10:22So I really don't
10:23have much else to say.
10:24So link's in the description
