00:00Welcome to the new video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today, we're talking about a vehicle that not only breaks new ground in terms of technology,
00:07but also shakes up the image of its brand, the Lexus RZ550EF Sport.
00:14This all-electric SUV is set to deliver not only comfort and luxury,
00:18but also sportiness and futuristic innovations.
00:22Lexus, the luxury brand from Toyota, has always been known for its quiet gliding,
00:26the highest quality of workmanship, and stress-free travel.
00:31But with the RZ550EF Sport, the company is preparing to open a completely new chapter, at least in part.
00:39From the outside, the F Sport logo already reveals that this is not just any RZ.
00:44No, this model is the new top version.
00:47With two electric motors, one per axle, the SUV delivers a whopping 408 horsepower.
00:52That's quite an achievement, especially when you consider that the car weighs around 2.1 tons when unladen.
01:02Despite its impressive weight, the RZ accelerates from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.4 seconds.
01:11A value that catapults it into the league of sporty electric cars.
01:14But it stops at 180 kilometers per hour, electronically limited.
01:21A feature that can now be found in almost all electric vehicles.
01:26But performance alone does not make a sports model.
01:29To ensure that the RZ also impresses in terms of driving dynamics,
01:33Lexus has equipped the model with the so-called Direct F all-wheel drive.
01:37This system detects within milliseconds where traction is needed and distributes the drive power accordingly.
01:44This gives preference to the rear axle, especially when accelerating out of bends,
01:49which significantly reduces pitching movements.
01:52The result is a remarkably smooth driving character with enormous grip.
01:56Despite all its power, however, the RZ is not a real sports car.
02:01The weight is simply too high for that and the character is too relaxed overall.
02:05However, the real revolution takes place in the area where the driver and the vehicle communicate,
02:11the steering system.
02:13Lexus has completely dispensed with a mechanical steering column in the RZ 550EF Sport.
02:19Instead, a steer-by-wire system is used,
02:22in which sensors detect steering movements and a computer translates these into electronic commands for servo motors.
02:29This makes Lexus, alongside Tesla,
02:31one of the first manufacturers worldwide to offer such a system as standard.
02:35The operating concept does not use a traditional steering wheel, but rather a so-called yoke.
02:42This flattened control unit is more reminiscent of an aircraft cockpit than a car.
02:47The system offers advantages in everyday life.
02:50In the city, a steering movement of 200 degrees is sufficient to go from lock to lock.
02:55Ideal for maneuvering and parking.
02:57No more changing your grip.
02:59A small push is enough.
03:01However, anyone looking for a sporty drive will have a hard time.
03:04There is no feedback or feel for the front wheels.
03:08The steering seems synthetic, almost sterile.
03:12Although it effectively filters out unwanted vibrations,
03:14it also detracts from the authentic driving experience.
03:17It remains incomprehensible why the sporty top model in particular is equipped with this technology,
03:24especially since conventional steering is not even available as an option.
03:27Another quite curious feature is the ability to simulate a virtual 8-speed transmission using shift paddles behind the joke.
03:37If you pull on the right paddle, the system briefly interrupts the tractive force.
03:43A synthetic engine sound roar is played and a rev counter appears on the display.
03:47If you shift too late, you even end up in the artificial rev limiter.
03:52Technically speaking, this is nonsense, because electric cars don't need gears.
03:57But emotionally, this feature is probably supposed to enrich the driving experience.
04:01For many, it will probably remain a one-off gimmick.
04:06A battery with a usable capacity of 72 kWh is located under the body.
04:11This should achieve a range of up to 450 km according to WLTP.
04:18A solid value, if not the best in its class.
04:21However, the new preconditioning of the battery is really well done.
04:26Even at an outside temperature of minus 15 degrees,
04:29fast charging from 10 to 80% should take just around 30 minutes.
04:34At the home wallbox, RZ benefited from a new onboard charger with a charging capacity of 22 kW.
04:41which halves the charging time compared to its predecessor.
04:45Inside, Lexus shows just how luxurious a sporty SUV can be.
04:50The workmanship is of the highest standard.
04:53Fine materials such as ultra-uid permeate the interior.
04:57The sport seats offer excellent lateral support
04:59and the blue contrasting stitching provides the finishing touch in terms of dynamics.
05:04Lexus packs all of this into a design that is quite polarizing.
05:08Sporty, angular, technical and yet elegant.
05:12The question of price remains interesting.
05:15This has not yet been officially announced,
05:18but experts expect the RZ550 eSport to be priced significantly higher than the previous RZ450 e.
05:25The latter recently started at around €60,000,
05:28which is why the new top version can be expected to have an entry-level price of around €70,000.
05:33The market launch is scheduled for the turn of the year from 2025 to 2026.
05:41Anyone who is interested in a sporty electric SUV with innovative technology,
05:45but also some questionable gimmicks,
05:47should take a closer look at the Lexus RZ550 eF Sport.
05:50As always, the link to the full article can be found in the video description.
