00:24The Lexus RZ, which was initially introduced exclusively as an all-wheel-drive model in 2023, has undergone several adjustments in recent years.
00:34Due to moderate sales figures, Lexus introduced a front-wheel-drive variant in 2024.
00:40The model has been made even more attractive for 2025.
00:44The new base version standard lowers the starting price by a whopping $11,200 compared to the previous premium trim level of the RZ300E.
00:53That's about €10,300.
00:56A significant price reduction.
00:59This means that the 2025 Lexus RZ now starts at $430,975 including delivery costs, or around €41,300.
01:09But what was cut to make this price possible?
01:13The standard equipment does without some of the comfort features of the premium version.
01:16These include ventilated front seats, the Lexus memory system for the steering wheel and driver's seat, front door lights, a surround-view camera system, a rear-view camera washer, a panoramic glass roof, an electric tailgate with foot sensor, and automatically dimmable, folding and lowering exterior mirrors.
01:34The intuitive park assist with automatic braking function is also missing.
01:41Bitten paint finishes such as cloudburst grow, ear or copper crest with a black roof are also not available.
01:48However, the interior themes thunderstorm and macadamia, palomino and dapple gray are still available for all variants.
01:55The new RZ is available as both a 300E with front-wheel drive and as a 450E with all-wheel drive in the standard version.
02:06The battery sizes differ only slightly.
02:08The 300E has a capacity of 74 kWh, while the 450E offers 72.8 kWh.
02:19Interestingly, the elimination of the rear-drive axle on the 300E not only ensures a smoother ride, but also a longer range.
02:26With the smaller 18-inch wheels, the front-wheel drive model can achieve up to 265 miles according to EPA tests, while the larger 20-inch tires reduce the range to 223 miles.
02:40The 450D can achieve a maximum of 220 miles with 18-inch wheels and only 196 miles with the 20-inch ones.
02:49However, compared to the competition, such as the Tesla Model Y, these figures remain disappointing.
02:56The Lexus can't keep up in terms of acceleration either.
03:00The RZ needs 7.4 seconds to go from 0 to almost 60 miles per hour, while the 450 does it in a full 5 seconds.
03:09Tesla is clearly ahead here.
03:11The Model Y performance manages an impressive 3.5 seconds.
03:15It's no wonder that despite its high-quality workmanship and sophisticated features, only 8,381 Lexus RZs were sold in the U.S. in the first three quarters of 2024.
03:28After all, the Lexus RZ is based on the same platform as the Toyota BZ4X and the Subaru Solterra.
03:34It is produced in Japan at the renowned Motomashi plant, which speaks for its quality and precision.
