00:00Fox host hits back at MAGA loyalists. Fox News anchor Brett Beyer defended the network after
00:06MAGA supporters criticized its protest of the Pentagon's new press rules. Several news outlets,
00:12including Fox, are protesting a policy announced by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, which the
00:17Pentagon Press Association called an unprecedented message of intimidation. The policy requires
00:22journalists to seek authorization before obtaining or soliciting any information from the Defense
00:27Department. The Pentagon has warned that violating the rules could be considered a criminal act
00:32and would not be protected under the First Amendment. Nearly all outlets have declined to
00:37comply with the new restrictions, which Beyer detailed on Fox News' special report.
00:42I covered the Pentagon for six and a half years. I covered the White House for four years,
00:46he said. I covered the Pentagon, and we knew not to walk into the tank, and the classified areas are
00:52off-limits. We obviously were always trying to get the story from different elements,
00:56and there was a freedom, but everybody had badges with them. At the White House,
01:00I never walked into the Oval Office or the Situation Room. These are stipulations that
01:05essentially are changing the dynamic about how to get information and how they disseminate
01:09information. Beyer responded directly to some of the online backlash. One ex-user wrote,
01:15News agencies don't get unfettered access to military intelligence. Don't care who you are.
01:21Beyer replied, Never did. But thanks.
01:23Another user commented, Sorry at Fox News. No one should have unfettered access to classified
01:29areas. Press restrictions make sense. I was shocked to learn they didn't already exist.
01:34Beyer said, We could never go in classified areas. Never.
