00:00Welcome to the video from the AutoMagazine Tuning Blog in which we compare the Ford Couga and the Opel Grandland.
00:08Please note that our comparison is not a real direct comparison, but only a virtual one.
00:16The vehicles in the video are example vehicles for visual representation.
00:21In the hotly contested segment of midsize SUVs, the revised Ford Couga and the new Opel Grandland
00:28are undoubtedly among the most exciting models.
00:32Both manufacturers have geared their vehicles towards the latest technology,
00:36everyday usability, and efficiency, although their approaches are quite different.
00:42While the Couga now relies entirely on gasoline and hybrid drives,
00:47the Grandland also offers an all-electric variant.
00:50A clear sign of the future.
00:52Visually, Ford has given its Couga a comprehensive facelift for the 2024 model year.
01:00The redesigned radiator grille and horizontal LED headlights create a significantly wider-looking front design.
01:07At 4.60 meters long, the Couga remains true to its familiar proportions.
01:13The Opel Grandland, on the other hand, presents itself with a more futuristic design language.
01:18At approximately 4.60 meters long and featuring the new 3D visor grille,
01:24including the illuminated Opel lightning bolt, it stands out visually.
01:28The Matrix HD headlights and the deliberate lack of chrome give it a progressive look
01:33that clearly sets it apart from classic SUV shapes.
01:37The interior of the Couga is more traditional.
01:41The cockpit is dominated by the 3.2-inch touchscreen of the Sink Fear system,
01:45which handles not only infotainment but also climate control.
01:50The system is complemented by 5G connectivity and wireless smartphone integration.
01:56The instruments are fully digital,
01:58and a rotary selector lever in the center tunnel replaces the traditional gearshift lever.
02:03The Grandland, on the other hand, takes a clearly more futuristic direction.
02:07A horizontally-oriented cockpit with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 16-inch touchscreen,
02:14slightly angled toward the driver, creates a clean, modern look.
02:19Users online particularly praise the choice of recycled materials and the numerous storage options,
02:24such as the so-called Pixelbox for wireless charging.
02:29Ergonomically certified seats ensure a high level of comfort on long journeys.
02:33The Grandland also impresses with a generous cargo volume of at least 55 liters,
02:39which increases to over 1,600 liters with the rear seats folded down more than the Couga,
02:45whose cargo volume can be expanded from around 410 to around 540 liters
02:50and reaches a maximum of just over 1,500 liters.
02:55The Couga offers gasoline engines, full hybrids, and plug-in hybrids.
02:59The entry-level version with 150 horsepower comes with a manual 5-speed transmission,
03:05while the 180-horsepower full hybrid and the 243-horsepower plug-in hybrid
03:10both use a continuously variable automatic transmission.
03:14The latter combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor powered by a 14.4-kilowatt-hour battery,
03:22enabling an electric range of approximately 65 kilometers.
03:25Charging capacity is up to 3.7-kilowatts AC.
03:31Opel offers more choice here.
03:33The Spectrum begins with a mild hybrid with a 145-horsepower 1.2L turbo gasoline engine
03:40and extends to the plug-in hybrid with 195-horsepower system output
03:45and an electric range of around 85 kilometers thanks to a 17.8 kWh battery.
03:50The fully electric variant is currently available in two battery sizes, 73 and 82 kWh.
03:58The so-called long-range version with a 98 kWh battery and a range of up to 700 kilometers will follow shortly.
04:06A dual-motor variant with all-wheel drive, 320 horsepower output, and a range of 525 kilometers is also in the starting blocks.
04:17The charging capacities are very modern, with up to 11 kW AC and 160 kW DC.
04:24Prices for the Ford Cougar in Germany start at around €40,000 for the 150-horsepower gasoline engine,
04:32while the plug-in hybrid is available from around €47,000.
04:37The Opel Grandland with the mild hybrid starts at around €36,400.
04:43The plug-in hybrid version starts at just over €40,000.
04:47Those interested in the all-electric Grandland should expect a starting price of just under €47,000.
