00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog about the Sol Motors Pocket Rocket Electric Motorcycle.
00:13As always, you can find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video description.
00:18With the Pocket Rocket, Sol Motors from Boblingen has brought an eye-catching electric motorcycle onto the road.
00:24The machine is available in two performance classes and is aimed at drivers with a driving license class AM or A1.
00:32Starting at a price of just under €6,000, you can get on an electric bike that is guaranteed to attract attention.
00:39The design is unique.
00:42A large aluminum tube not only forms the visual rear wheel, but also serves as the upper frame cover and housing for the battery.
00:48Another thinner V-shaped tube connects the frame to the swingarm, the shock absorbers and the footrests.
00:57The unusual design is completed with a solo seat, minimalist handlebars and two 16-inch wheels.
01:05Anyone looking for a motorcycle that stands out from the crowd will find it here.
01:08The project is the brainchild of product designer Manuel Mesmer, who is himself an avid motorcyclist.
01:16For him, classic combustion engines were no longer up to date in the city.
01:21But he couldn't find a model among the electric motorcycles that excited him.
01:26So in 2018, he developed his own vehicle together with a locksmith friend and two former Porsche engineers.
01:33The cover of the rear tube with integrated taillight even comes from Mesmer's own 3D printer.
01:41Other components such as brakes and suspension were sourced from suppliers.
01:47The battery of the pocket rocket was integrated into the main tube for aesthetic reasons,
01:51which not only offers visual advantages, but also hides the wiring and makes the vehicle appear slimmer.
01:56The frame comes from an Austrian manufacturer that actually specializes in exhaust systems.
02:06During the development phase, Mesmer switched to more powerful 27-hutter cells in order to maximize the range.
02:14The battery has a capacity of 2.5 kWh and can be charged or removed directly on the bike.
02:20However, its weight of almost 17 kg makes transporting it to higher floors a bit cumbersome.
02:27A full charge takes around 4 hours.
02:30With a quick charger, the time is reduced to 2 hours.
02:34The pocket rocket is available in two versions.
02:39The basic version has an output of 4 kW, reaches a top speed of 45 kmph and can be driven with a Class AM driving license from the age of 15.
02:48It develops a torque of 120 Nm and achieves a maximum range of 108 kmph, according to the manufacturer.
03:00The more powerful pocket rocket S has an output of 6 kW, accelerates with 160 Nm and reaches a top speed of 85 kmph.
03:12Its range is 68 kmph, which should be more than sufficient for city traffic.
03:18The seat height is 840 mm.
03:21The vehicle weighs only 87 kg and offers an upright seating position thanks to the high-angled handlebars.
03:29A small display provides the most important information.
03:33The LED headlight is integrated into the main tube.
03:36The rear light also serves as the battery compartment cover.
03:39The front suspension offers 60 mm of suspension travel.
03:42At the rear, it is 50 mm sufficient for well-developed roads.
03:49The tires are from Heidenau and braking is provided by a hydraulic CBS brake via a front disc with a diameter of 222 mm and a rear disc with a diameter of 200 mm.
03:59The price for the pocket rocket starts at 5,990 euros.
04:06The pocket rocket S costs 6,990 euros.
04:10Both models can be ordered online.
04:13The frame is black as standard.
04:15If you want one of the new additional paint finishes, you will pay 190 euros extra.
04:19Different colored mudguards costs 60 euros and the sole lettering in a different color costs 30 euros.
