00:21Mazda has finally responded to the wishes of MX-5 fans and is giving the popular Roadstar more power.
00:26While the large 2.0L Skyactiv-G engine with 184hp will soon be discontinued in this country,
00:35Mazda is launching a limited Special Edition in Japan as a victim of the strict EU edition regulations.
00:43The Mazda Spirit Racing Roadstar 12R is based on the soft-topped version and impresses with numerous innovations, both visually and technically.
00:51Under the hood, there is finally an increase in power.
00:54However, the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine has been revised again and now produces a whopping 197hp.
01:01Among other things, Mazda engineers have optimized the intake, exhaust, cylinder heads, pistons and camshafts.
01:08By comparison, when the ND generation was launched in 2015, the engine still produced 160hp before being increased to 184hp three years later.
01:18The current upgrade may only produce 16hp on paper, but in a car as light as the MX-5, you can definitely feel the difference.
01:26In addition to the more powerful engine, the 12R Special Edition offers an aerodynamic body kit and a special Aeroi paint job.
01:35Forged Race Tay 37 alloy wheels with Yokohama Advance ADO 9 tires ensure even better handling, while Brembo brakes up front provide the necessary deceleration.
01:48There is also a Fujitsubo exhaust, a rear spoiler, height-adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers and Recaro bucket seats with sable 4-point belts.
01:56SWAT, all of which are designed for maximum performance and sportiness.
02:01The interior is also designed to a high standard.
02:05Alcantara refines the steering wheel, the handbrake, the center console and the gear knob of the 6-speed manual transmission.
02:12A 12R badge on the rear and an individually numbered badge on the engine underline the exclusivity of this model.
02:18Only 200 units will be produced and the price is set at 7 million yen, which is equivalent to around 43,000 euros.
02:31Orders will start in Japan this fall and if demand is high, a lottery will decide who will be among the lucky buyers.
