00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:09Today, we're all about the brand new Fangcheng Bao Leopard 5, a luxury SUV from BYD.
00:16You can find the link to read the entire article in our magazine in the video description.
00:21The Fangcheng Leopard 5, a hybrid off-roader, stands out not only because of its unusual name,
00:27but also because of its angular appearance, which is reminiscent of a cross between a
00:32Land Rover Defender and a Ford Bronco. The name Fangcheng means formula, while Bao translates
00:39to leopard. A fitting description for a vehicle that outshines the competition with an impressive
00:45range of 1,200 kilometers. Visually, BYD remains true to the classic boxy off-road vehicle aesthetic
00:54with this model, which has been considered robust and resilient for decades.
00:59The technical basis is the so-called dual-mode off-road platform, which, according to BYD,
01:05is the first exclusive hybrid platform for off-road use.
01:09The battery is integrated into the latter frame, which increases rigidity.
01:15A highlight is the hydraulic body control system P developed by BYD, which enables variable damper
01:21settings and controls all driver assistance systems and autonomous functions.
01:27The chassis of the Bao 5 consists of double wishbone axles with independent front and rear suspension,
01:33which ensures both off-road capability and comfort.
01:38This is complemented by electronic differential locks on the front and rear axles as well as a reduction
01:43gear that is activated by a lever.
01:45The off-road values also speak for themselves.
01:51With a front approach angle of 39 degrees, a rear angle of 35 degrees, a ramp angle of 27 degrees
01:58and a ground clearance of 310 millimeters, the Leopard 5 can easily keep up with the leaders in the
02:04off-road vehicle world.
02:05Under the hood is a plug-in hybrid system that delivers a combined output of an impressive
02:12687 horsepower and a maximum torque of 760 newm.
02:18The drive system consists of a 1.5-liter combustion engine with 194 horsepower and two electric motors
02:24that produce 2,727 horsepower and 387 horsepower respectively.
02:29Despite weighing over 2 tons, the Bao 5 accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.8 seconds
02:37and has a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
02:42The electric range is 125 kilometers, significantly more than the legally required 100 kilometers in China.
02:49The battery of the Fang Cheng Bao 5, a blade battery with 31.8 kilowatt hours, is generously dimensioned for a plug-in hybrid.
03:00However, the charging speed is somewhat disappointing.
03:03With a maximum of 6 kilowatts on an AC connection, BYD is significantly behind competitors such as Gilly, which can charge up to 22.
03:12With DC fast charging, the Bao 5 still achieves 100 kilowatts, which means the battery can be charged from 30 to 80% in around 15 minutes.
03:22Sufficient for a plug-in hybrid, but not a top value.
03:25BYD also focuses on luxury in the interior.
03:29Leather dominates the design and a generous panoramic roof creates a bright and pleasant ambience.
03:35The virtual instrument panel measures 12.3 inches, while the central touchscreen with 50.6 inches offers plenty of space for navigation and entertainment.
03:46Even the front passenger has not been forgotten and gets his own 12.3-inch screen.
03:52In addition, the Bao 5 has a head-up display with augmented reality, which projects the most important information directly into the driver's field of vision.
04:01With a length of 4.89 meters, the Fangcheng also offers plenty of space in the rear.
04:08A special highlight is a small refrigerator compartment, which keeps drinks pleasantly cool.
04:14Overall, the interior leaves a well-thought-out and high-quality impression.
04:19Even if the controls rely less heavily on touch functions than in many other models.
04:25The price in China is currently around 38,000 euros.
04:28A real bargain for a vehicle in this class.
04:32However, should the Model 5 make its way to Europe, the price is likely to increase considerably.
04:39Experts estimate around 75,000 euros, as Chinese manufacturers generally charge a surcharge of around 100% on the European market.
