00:30Nissan has transformed the legendary Godzilla and brought it into the world of electric mobility.
00:37This move serves as a harbinger of the next generation of the GTR, the R36, which will most likely also be electrified.
00:48Work on this project began in March 2023, when a team of volunteer engineers equipped the famous R22 GTR with an all-electric powertrain.
00:59The goal was to merge the character of the classic model with modern technology and thereby create a new kind of excitement.
01:06The result of this experiment will be presented to the public at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2025 and it is already causing quite a stir.
01:16Instead of the classic 2.6-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder, known as the RB26D a tape, the vehicle now features an electric drive.
01:31Nissan has so far refrained from providing precise technical details, but there is legitimate speculation about the performance figures.
01:38The original R32 GTR was officially limited to 280 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque, although in reality it often delivered more than 300 horsepower.
01:49This was due to a gentleman's agreement among Japanese car manufacturers not to officially declare power output above 280 horsepower.
01:58However, the highly tuned version of the RB6T achieved an impressive 2,000 horsepower.
02:04With the new electric powertrain, the R32 GTR-V is likely to enter a completely different performance dimension.
02:13A possible comparison is with the Nissan Ariya Nismo, which delivers up to 435 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque.
02:22With all-wheel drive and an electric motor on each axle, the electric R3 could achieve similar or even higher figures.
02:30Visually, the car remains largely faithful to the original.
02:34However, there are subtle changes such as the absence of fog lights and orange painted brake calipers that set it apart from the traditional model.
02:43Although the R230 GTR EV is likely to remain a one-off, Nissan is giving a clear indication of the company's future direction with this project.
02:52The Hyperforce concept, which is considered a possible foretaste of the R630, relies on solid-state batteries and a staggering 1,350 horsepower.
03:04Nissan has since stopped developing new internal combustion engines, so the next GTR will most likely be a fully electric car.
03:14With the company's solid-state battery technology not expected to be ready for market until 2028, the R36 is unlikely to be introduced until the end of this decade.
03:25While we wait for these futuristic vehicles to enter series production, the electric R32 is an exciting glimpse of what's to come.
03:36Between January 10 and 12, 2025, visitors to the Tokyo Auto Salon will not only be able to admire this unique model, but also an R35 GTR Nismo Special Edition, which is exclusively for the Japanese market.
03:52These two vehicles impressively demonstrate the innovative strength and the loyal commitment to the GTR DNA that is leading Nissan into the future.
