The Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on Friday (Oct 31) sentenced Ismanira Abdul Manaf to five years' imprisonment for neglecting her autistic son, Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin, in a manner likely to cause physical harm.

Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh also ordered the 30-year-old to serve a two-year good behaviour bond and complete 120 hours of community service within six months of release.

The court dismissed the defence's stay of execution request, ordering Ismanira to begin her sentence immediately.

00:00The Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on Friday sentenced Ismaneera Abdul-Manaf, the mother of autistic child Zayn Rayan Abdul-Matin, to five years imprisonment after finding her guilty of neglecting her son in a manner likely to cause physical harm two years ago.
00:18In addition to the jail term, Judge Dr. Shializa Warno also ordered for 30-year-old Ismaneera to be placed on a two-year good behavior bond and to perform 120 hours of community service within six months of her release.
00:33The court dismissed the lawyer's request for a stay of execution and ordered for Ismaneera to serve her jail sentence immediately.
00:39The conviction was made under Section 31, Subsection 1, Subsection A of the Child Act 2001, which carried a maximum 20 years imprisonment, a fine of up to 50,000 ringgit, or both.
00:54Zayn Rayan, who had autism, was reported missing on December 5, 2023, before his body was discovered in a stream near his home at Edaman apartment, Damansara Damai, the following day.
01:08A post-mortem confirmed that he died from strangulation.
01:12His mother was charged with neglect in June 2024, while her husband, Zayn Ikhwan Zahari, was later acquitted after the court ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him.
