A former babysitter has been sentenced to one year's jail and fined RM15,000 by the Sessions Court in Seremban for negligence resulting in a toddler's death.

Judge N. Kanageswari also ordered 41-year-old Khairunnisa Ahmad Damamhuri to serve an additional four months in jail if she fails to pay the fine.

00:08being found guilty of negligence that led to the death of a 15-month-old girl in 2022.
00:14Sessions Court Judge N. Kanegeswari handed down the sentence on Monday against 41-year-old
00:19Khairunisa Ahmad Damamhuri, the caregiver responsible for baby Shifar, on the day she
00:24died. In addition to the jail term and fine, Khairunisa was ordered to complete 48 hours
00:30of community service within six months of her release and placed on a one-year good behavior
00:35bond of 5,000 ringgit. Should she fail to pay the fine, she faces an additional four months behind
00:41bars. Khairunisa was charged under the Child Act 2001 for negligence leading to the death of Noor
00:47Rania Ashifa Yusri, known as baby Shifa, at a nursery in Bandar Shri Sendayan on February 22, 2022.
00:55A coroner's court ruling in July 2024 found that the toddler died from compression of the neck
01:00after becoming entangled in a cloth cradle. Crucially, the coroner found that baby Shifa
01:05had been left unsupervised in a room for two hours before her death.
