For the first time in this country's history they will be playing host to a regional and international Badminton tournaments back to back. They are getting ready to host the Caribbean Badminton Championships and an International Open set to begin from October 31st. T&T is also expected to welcome the return of Former Badminton Coach Path Mehta who will be returning as a player.

00:00Well Trinidad and Tobago is getting set to host two back-to-back badminton tournaments,
00:05namely the Caribbean Badminton Championships and the International Badminton Open Championships.
00:11Both are set to take place at the National Racket Center in Tacarigua.
00:14Technical Director of the TNT Badminton Association, Anel C. Paul, indicated it's a historic landmark.
00:20Just a few days, Trinidad and Tobago, we are going to be the capital of badminton for that period.
00:27I don't think there has been, if I can remember, a time where badminton has held,
00:38in any Caribbean country they have held back-to-back tournaments like we are holding right now,
00:43the Caribbean Championship followed by the Trinidad and Tobago International.
00:47So exciting times certainly ahead.
00:50He is expecting a good outing from the national players at the Caribaco Championships,
00:55which gives the senior athletes a chance to compete.
00:58We would have our players in the men's singles, so we are really hoping for a good draw in the Caribbean Championship.
01:06We are hoping for some medals in the Caribbean Championship.
01:10But all the more, it will be a competitive feel of players at the Caribaco Championship.
01:18Who will be representing Trinidad and Tobago at Caribaco?
01:20All right, so Caribaco Championship, we are, unfortunately, we taught our national champion, Willie,
01:27as well as the runners-up, Rhys Makano.
01:32So we have, we have Brian Tinnenon, who will be representing us.
01:39We have, as well, Vance Dutaram.
01:44Four nations are expected to compete.
01:48TNT, Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica.
01:51Shaquida Debulay and Amara Urquhart will be representing for the women.
01:56For the International Open Tournament, which begins on November 5th,
02:00Indian coach Path Mehta will be the surprise player for TNT in the 16-team competition.
02:06Path Mehta, he is now wearing the red, white and black.
02:11He has chosen to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the International Tournament.
02:16So, based on BWF rule, he is allowed to do so.
02:20So he switched flag from his home country to represent Trinidad and Tobago.
02:25It's allowed in the International Tournament, but not in the Regional Tournament,
02:31unless you have a passport.
02:32So we are really hoping for good results in the men's singles.
02:39International players will be using the tournament to gain ranking points.
