00:00Welcome to the new video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today, we're talking about a hotly debated topic.
00:07Uber plans to introduce at least 20,000 to 1,000 self-driving robotaxis
00:11based on Lucid SUVs in several countries over the next few years.
00:16This would mean that Uber would not only act as an intermediary for the first time,
00:20but would also compete directly with drivers on the platform with its own vehicles.
00:25The cars used are based on the Gravity model from the U.S. electric car manufacturer Lucid.
00:30The conversion to autonomous use is made possible by technology from Nuro,
00:35for which Uber is supporting Lucid with around 280 million euros.
00:40This investment underscores Uber's ambition to become the world's leading robo-taxi platform.
00:46In the U.S., for example, autonomous vehicles from WMO can already be booked via the Uber app.
00:52In the future, cars from Volkswagen and Baidu are also set to be integrated.
00:56However, the move with its own vehicles marks a strategic change of direction.
01:03While the robo-taxi rivalry between WMO and Tesla is intensifying in Austin,
01:08Uber now also appears to be aiming for a dominant role in the future market for autonomous mobility.
