00:05Today we're talking about the VW LaMondo L, a dynamically designed coupe sedan that Volkswagen has been offering exclusively for the Chinese market since 2022.
00:15The LaMondo L is much more than just a spruced-up Jetta.
00:20Although the model bears the traditional name LaMondo in China, which once stood for the Jetta in Germany, the new version has little in common with its staid predecessor.
00:30Contrary to what the additional L in the name suggests, this is not a long version, but rather a sporty alternative in Passat length with a height of around 1.5 meters, but significantly flatter.
00:44The wheelbase is 6 centimeters shorter than that of the Passat.
00:48Visually, the LaMondo L is a real surprise in the VW portfolio.
00:54The coupe-like basic shape with four doors gives the vehicle a sporty appearance that is rarely seen from the brand.
01:00The front is characterized by a strongly sculpted, slightly sloping bonnet and large, feather-shaped headlights.
01:09VW has dispensed with a classic radiator grille.
01:13Instead, there is a continuous LED light strip with an illuminated VW logo in the middle.
01:20Ventilation is provided by a large, high-rise air intake above the front apron.
01:24The rear is also impressive.
01:27Another continuous LED strip with an illuminated VW logo sits under the spoiler of the tailgate and emphasizes the width of the vehicle.
01:36Frameless doors and 18-inch rims round off the sporty design.
01:40The interior is more sober, but at a solid, modern VW knee level.
01:44The design is strongly based on the current Golf 8.
01:49Two screens, a digital 10-inch cockpit and a 12-inch infotainment system are positioned next to each other on the dashboard and connected by a slightly curved glass surface.
01:58The multifunction steering wheel, which is flattened at the bottom, is equipped with touch surfaces.
02:06The air outlets are integrated into the decor.
02:08The driver and front passenger sit on sports seats.
02:12The LaMondo L is powered exclusively by the familiar 1.4 LTSI petrol engine with 150 horsepower,
02:19which is combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
02:22The first examples were delivered in spring 2022.
02:28A facelift is now in preparation, for which two pictures have already been published.
