00:16The Chevrolet Spark EV was one of the first real electric cars from General Motors this century.

00:32Now that the Chevrolet Bolt has been discontinued, the Spark EV is making a comeback of sorts.
00:38However, the story is a bit more complicated than it seems at first glance.
00:43The new model is called the Chevrolet Spark EUV, but it is not simply a remake of the old 5-door hatchback.
00:51Instead, it is a small electric crossover, which makes perfect sense, since SUVs and crossover models are currently in demand.
01:00General Motors is probably hoping to attract more buyers to zero-emission vehicles with the new body style.
01:07However, the name is a bit misleading, because behind the Chevrolet logo is actually a Chinese vehicle.
01:14The Spark EUV is nothing more than a rebatched Baojunye Plus.
01:19A small electric crossover built by the Sarge GM Wooling Cooperation in China.
01:24The vehicle was only launched there last year and has a 101-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle.
01:33It also has a 42-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron phosphate battery, which should be sufficient for a range of 400 kilometers according to the CLTC test cycle.
01:43However, there is no all-wheel drive version or special underbody protection features.
01:50A Chinese tester who drove the two-door version described the vehicle as uncomfortable, cramped, but fun.
01:56The BUYP Plus biggest advantage in China is probably its price.

02:11For that money, customers get two 10.5-inch displays for the digital cockpit and infotainment system.

02:31The dimensions of the car are quite compact, measuring 3.90 centimeters long, 1.70 centimeters wide and with a wheelbase of 2.50 centimeters.
02:41Ultimately, the Sparky UV is an affordable, minimalist electric car for short distances with space for four people.
02:51It is unlikely that the vehicle will ever come to the US.
02:54Not least because of the high import duties.
02:58Instead, its first market area will be Brazil, where General Motors presented the Sparky UV as part of Chevrolet's Centennial in South America.
