00:00Welcome to the video of the CarMagazine Tuning Blog, where today we take a look at the extraordinary conversion of the Toyota Helix Champ by Gazoo Racing.
00:16If you would like information about a different vehicle, feel free to write to us with the name of the vehicle at contact at tuningblog.eu or leave a comment below the video.
00:25Toyota's Helix Champ, a simple pickup, is also known in Thailand and other markets as the Helix Ranger, Helix Tamario or Helix Scout.
00:36Originally designed as an affordable workhorse for emerging markets, the Helix Champ mutates into a real race car in the version of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team.
00:47This impressive conversion was created to compete in the Thai Super Pickup Series and meet the tough demands of a race car.
00:55Unveiled in late 2022 as part of the IMV Zero concept, the Helix Champ was launched last year as an affordable model for around âŹ12,000.
01:05This version is a diesel with a powerful 2.4-liter turbodiesel, rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, and a single cab.
01:18However, Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand has tuned it to deliver significantly more than the regular 150hp and 400Nm of torque of the standard model.
01:27The modifications are hard to miss.
01:32The Helix Champ in the redesign impresses with an aggressive body kit with fender flares, a striking rear wing, a lowered ride height, and a large intercooler.
01:41All of these measures ensure that the massive truck, which is based on a simple ladder frame, also visually gives the impression of a thoroughbred racing car.
01:52With this conversion, Toyota shows that even a pickup truck that was originally designed as an inexpensive and simple model has potential for the racetrack.
02:04Sure, aerodynamics are certainly not the greatest strength of a boxy vehicle like the Helix Champ.
02:09However, with a well-thought-out front splitter and rear wing, road-holding is improved and racing performance is raised to a new level.
02:21In the Super Pickup Series in Thailand, this long-wheelbase single-seater Helix Champ competes against rival models such as the Ford Ranger, the Mitsubishi Triton, and the Isuzu D-Max, which is sold as the Mazda BT-50 in some markets.
02:34This race-ready Helix Champ impressively demonstrates that Toyota Jess Racing can turn almost any vehicle into a potent race car with the right technology and dedication.
