00:15Toyota is setting new standards with the revised Helix, as the popular pickup not only gets Hybrid technology, but also an impressive upgrade in the off-road version GR Sport.
00:25The launch of the new products was at the IEA Transportation in Hanover, where the hybrid pickup celebrated its premiere.
00:34Two major innovations await us.
00:37Firstly, the 2.8L turbodiesel is equipped with a belt starter generator, which makes it a mild hybrid.
00:44According to Toyota, this technology saves around 5% fuel and at the same time improves driving performance.
00:50The starter generator, which also functions as an alternator and starter motor, can provide support during acceleration with up to 16 horsepower and 65 newton-meters of torque.
01:02A lightweight lithium-ion battery weighing just 7 kilograms provides the energy supply and is stowed away under the rear seat bench to save space.
01:11In addition, the hybrid system introduces the multi-terrain select system, which offers different driving programs for optimum traction on snow, sand or mud.
01:23Toyota promises not only greater efficiency here, but also more robust off-road capability, as even water crossings of up to 70 centimeters are said to be possible without any problems thanks to the encapsulated technology.
01:35On the other hand, the GR Sport version has been extensively revised, with Toyota taking inspiration from the Australian model.
01:44However, the 2.8L four-cylinder turbo diesel remains at 204 horsepower and 500 newton-meters of torque in Europe.
01:53Unlike in Australia, where the output has been increased to 224 horsepower and 550 newton-meters.
01:58However, what is also popular here in Germany is the improved chassis with new wishbones at the front, a reinforced rear axle and an increased track width of 14 centimeters at the front and 15.5 centimeters at the rear.
02:15The result? A firmer and sportier ride with less body roll.
02:20Visually, the Helix GR Sport also cuts a strong figure.
02:24Inspired by the Dakar Rally, the design features a distinctive front end with a new grille, skid plate and striking black mudguards that emphasize the wider track.
02:3717-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, red brake calipers with forks and robust side skirts round off the off-road look.
02:46Inside, sports seats with red seatbelts, an embroidered headrest and a revised multimedia system await.
02:52Apple CarPlay works wirelessly.
02:56A cable is required for Android Auto.
02:59Prices for the new models have not yet been officially announced, but it is expected that the GR Sport V variant could start at over €60,000.
03:09Sales will start in the first half of the year.
03:11Deliveries will begin in the second half of 2024.
