00:00:00Only a teenager, in fact, is he our youngest rider?
00:00:03Yes, I believe he is. So there he is.
00:00:06Mattia Tusha in the 13 car. It's Cryhammer that's got control of it at the moment,
00:00:11but what a responsibility for a youngster, especially, I want a chance, I guess,
00:00:16especially as, for the moment, at least provisionally, top five.
00:00:19Nottingham, Anglia.
00:00:37За неделю до Уимблдона устроитесь поудобнее и наслаждайтесь красивой игрой.
00:00:43С понедельника в прямом эфире на Евроспорт 1.
00:00:46ATP Nottingham.
00:00:49Like anyone, I have doubts and insecurities.
00:00:54I struggle under the weight of expectation.
00:00:57These things have never stopped me, always trying to do my best.
00:01:01Here goes Jonathan Edwards, round two.
00:01:03Still can't quite believe it turned out to be the best ever.
00:01:05It's another world record. 18 metres 29.
00:01:10He's just taken triple jumping into a new age.
00:01:13Being an athlete was all-consuming.
00:01:16A single-minded devotion.
00:01:18Being on the other side is not so different.
00:01:21I love sport, the drama, the pursuit of athletic perfection.
00:01:25The genius, the madness, it sometimes brings.
00:01:29No, but Jack, there's no mark there.
00:01:32I'm Jonathan Edwards.
00:01:33You can only understand my obsession if you share my passion.
00:01:37Welcome back.
00:01:52And we also welcome back Chris Parsons.
00:01:56Chris, a lot of questions being asked of the Ford and the special dispensation it was given to actually take part in this Le Mans.
00:02:04It was essentially, at the behest of all the other teams, they had to give their permission, which of course they were glad to do.
00:02:12Yeah, but some of them are regretting that now because they didn't think the Fords would be quite this dominant.
00:02:19Well, they're not dominant because Tony Volander's out front at the moment, but they certainly have come on very quickly.
00:02:27As we said earlier, Jeremy and I saw them at Daytona in January.
00:02:32And they actually supplied the first car, I think it was yesterday or the day before, but the proper production ones aren't coming off till October.
00:02:49So, yes, is it a real production car?
00:02:53Well, I think it's fair to say that it's as near as you're going to get to a GT prototype.
00:02:59It's a quite remarkable looking beast.
00:03:01It's, I can't decide whether it's lovely or just a bit too Flash Gordon for my liking.
00:03:09It's certainly got that very large rear extension, the diffuser at the back end, which has now been permitted.
00:03:16And they seem to be getting longer and longer to the detriment of the look of the car, I believe.
00:03:20But anyway, here's your overall classification.
00:03:22The Toyota hybrids are one and three at the moment.
00:03:25The Porsche number two car is running second.
00:03:27They've had their issues, however, with the one car, as I'm sure you have seen, as proving that ill fortune is not just reserved for those further down the order.
00:03:39This is the LMP2, close running Rast and the Orica.
00:03:42It's Orica one and two just for the time being.
00:03:45Running 157 laps, so 12 laps down on the overall leader.
00:03:50But nonetheless, a great battle raging here and some very, very close calls.
00:03:54In fact, at the top of the timing sheets, we're seeing Conway and Dumas.
00:03:59And they're separated now by just 4.2 seconds.
00:04:01I'm not sure what the fuel load is for Dumas or when he's due in, but Jeremy, I'm sure, will be telling us fairly soon when he is due to make his call.
00:04:12But for the time being, Conway is staying in front of Dumas, but it is nice and tight.
00:04:17LMP2, Rast and Besh separated both Orica's, the 26th and the 46th, by a margin of 21 seconds.
00:04:25But on the outlap is Menelis in the 36th Alpine, and his interval is only 6.2 seconds down on that second-placed car.
00:04:36Vylander leads the pro class for the time being, with Richard Westbrook in attendance.
00:04:40It's Ferrari ahead of Ford.
00:04:43They were the two makes that had their performance hobbled.
00:04:50They were deemed to have been given too much of an advantage, and it needed to be pared back.
00:04:54Not very much, though.
00:04:56Yeah, well, it depends by degree.
00:04:58Still way out ahead.
00:04:59The Aston is, which is the next GT car up, is somewhere behind.
00:05:05But anyway, Jeremy says that the Dumas car is due in any minute, so...
00:05:15It's a running line, which probably explains why he was closing.
00:05:18Yeah, he's going to fall another minute.
00:05:21He's still lapping quite quickly, but there's no question about it, of the two cars at the moment.
00:05:28The Conway car is keeping the gap static.
00:05:31Doug Muller has just posted the fastest lap, and, in fact, he went through the third sector.
00:05:37And this is a one-minute stop-go penalty for the 22 car, by the way, for speeding in the slow zone.
00:05:44Frankly, that's just a wee bit silly.
00:05:47But he's going to have to pay a price for that.
00:05:51Way down the order, however, it's Maris in the 22 Ligio, running 47th at the moment.
00:05:57So no great shakes out front.
00:05:59Penalties will be issued.
00:06:01Oh, we're on an absolute stormer at the moment.
00:06:03Renny Rast has just fasted through two sectors.
00:06:07Sectors 1 and, indeed, 2.
00:06:10And he's on an absolute flyer in the 26 car, boys.
00:06:13Often, at this time of night, people, the cars do go quicker.
00:06:16The air is cold, so it's more dense.
00:06:19And the engines love it.
00:06:22And there's no overheating problems.
00:06:25And they can go very quickly.
00:06:27You often get very quick naps at this time of night.
00:06:30Well, it's the G-Drive Racing, a rather distinctive Jota machine.
00:06:34It's the Orica Nissan in bright orange.
00:06:37And he's just put in the fastest lap at a 3.36 for the class, we'll remind you.
00:06:45But what an impressive performance that was.
00:06:47There'll be more, potentially.
00:06:49I'm not sure whether we're going to see the 3.21 4.45 of Kobayashi in that number six car beaten.
00:06:57But you never know the way things are going at the moment.
00:07:00It is, as you say, Chris, we often find the speeds ramp up at about this time.
00:07:06The air seems to suit the functioning of the vehicles absolutely perfectly.
00:07:10Yes, it's more dense.
00:07:13And the drivers can really concentrate there.
00:07:16The headlights are fantastic.
00:07:19The lights around the circuit are good.
00:07:21They know exactly what to do.
00:07:23The circuit's rubbered in.
00:07:24The circuit hasn't been rubbered in much this week because of all the rain.
00:07:30So the circuit is now getting well rubbered in.
00:07:33Damien Faulkner gave us a lecture about that earlier.
00:07:36And the benefits of the circuit being rubbered in.
00:07:40So, yeah, good time to go quickly.
00:07:42Not going quickly.
00:07:43Marcel Fasso under investigation at the moment.
00:07:46Well, maybe.
00:07:48Pit Stop is under investigation for that car.
00:07:52The car 83 as well, likewise, is also being looked at for exactly the same reason.
00:07:58The 7 car came back in very quickly into its release.
00:08:03I'm not quite sure why.
00:08:04Find out for you in a moment.
00:08:06But the 2 car is on its mark.
00:08:08This is Dumas, who is closing, it seemed, on Conway.
00:08:12But a light load.
00:08:13And here he is now for his service.
00:08:16So, in the pits.
00:08:18Let's see how smooth this is.
00:08:19It's interesting to see that the mechanics are now gleaning the numbers every time the cars come in.
00:08:25So, they don't get hauled in by the clerk of the course.
00:08:29They've been extraordinarily strict today.
00:08:32And I'm actually wondering whether the light boards that have been supplied to the vehicles are actually a bad batch because so many of them have failed today.
00:08:44It's a combination, I think, of things.
00:08:47I mean, let's face it, we did start under some very wet conditions this morning.
00:08:52And I think what happens is that you get dirt and everything else, whatever, a car.
00:08:58Nighttime comes, there's bugs and everything else as well.
00:09:00And it just was, I think, one of those things.
00:09:04It is fairly warm out there.
00:09:07When the sun was out earlier on today, it was quite a little warmer.
00:09:10It has gone colder now, however.
00:09:12And I think we are going to see some quick times now.
00:09:14Frankly, if the Porsche, if the Porsche stands any chance at all, quite frankly, he has got to go for it.
00:09:23One way or the other, he has got to go very quickly over these few minutes.
00:09:28Now, it's a question of range.
00:09:30The Porsches are managing 13 laps or they were earlier on today.
00:09:33I don't know whether they've managed to extend that range.
00:09:36But 14 laps comfortably for Toyota, Audi managing 12.
00:09:41And that's being reflected at the moment.
00:09:43So, it all really comes down to reliability and hoping that no one goes off and there are no offs, no gravel traps or whatever.
00:09:57But reliability and Toyota look in a strong position.
00:10:01A one-minute stop-go penalty has been posed on the 22 car for speeding in the slow zone.
00:10:07And that's going to feel like an absolute age by the time they are on their marks and beginning to take it.
00:10:12Unless I'm going completely dirty, and I don't think I am, I've just seen that one of the quicker lapses that we've had for some time was actually not an Audi.
00:10:26It wasn't a Porsche.
00:10:29It wasn't even a Toyota.
00:10:31Well, tell us what it was.
00:10:32It's one of the cars that we are supposedly.
00:10:35Um, it's the, it's the, I've lost it now on the board.
00:10:42But no, it's a 3, it's a 3, it's a 3, it's a 3.36, it's a 3.36, which is a very, very, which is a reasonably, very quick time.
00:10:49Is it Menezes, is that who you're talking about?
00:10:52Well, Delis has actually just gone quicker than him with the, uh, uh, in fact, the times are getting faster and faster.
00:10:59Uh, Kane at the moment in the 42 car is just, uh, fastest through two sectors.
00:11:03And so these, the pace of the vehicles is coming to us at the moment.
00:11:07It seems that the, uh, the track and the oil problem that we had earlier on, it was all dry, by the way.
00:11:11It looked like rain at some point with the, uh, the oil dry being caught in the headlights.
00:11:16It wasn't a bit of it.
00:11:18It's all been, it's all been, uh, sent clear.
00:11:20Kane at the moment on an absolute stormer.
00:11:23Can he manage to land it through traffic?
00:11:26And it's, uh, again, uh, we can see that Brendan Hartley's come out of the pits in the number one Porsche.
00:11:33We thought we'd lost that one.
00:11:35So he's, he's set a, a sector one and sector two time.
00:11:39So the number one Porsche is, is coming out again.
00:11:44I'm still waiting for this, uh, Gibson 42.
00:11:46They've come across the line and completely stirred sector.
00:11:49Um, he's lit up the timing sheets, uh, timing boards on two of them and is clearly on a mission.
00:11:56I'm just wondering, uh, he cannot possibly be pitting and, uh, he's not being called as far as I can gather.
00:12:01Uh, 82 car on its marks just for the time being.
00:12:07Tidy service for this, uh, Ferrari.
00:12:09Uh, yellow zone three.
00:12:11And in fact, uh, a much slower section for, for Kane.
00:12:15There's sector three there.
00:12:17Um, and I'm just wondering whether that has it.
00:12:20I hope it's not him.
00:12:22Uh, we'll find out in just a few moments time.
00:12:24Yes.
00:12:25And there's Jeremy showing me in the gravel.
00:12:27Um, that's who that is, car number 60 in the gravel.
00:12:30There we go.
00:12:31Brendan Hartley's set a 323.
00:12:34So, uh, and that is considerably quicker than most of the other, the other hybrid cars are going at the moment.
00:12:40So, that car seems to have got over its problems and is, is back on, although it is on lap 134, whereas the leader is on lap 172.
00:12:53So, it's a long way down.
00:12:55Sorry, Chris.
00:12:56Richard Westbrook just, uh, exiting the pits, uh, in the 69 car.
00:13:00Uh, at least I think it's Richard still on board.
00:13:02I don't think we saw a, a, a driver change there.
00:13:0545 seconds in arrears, also on the outlap.
00:13:07Uh, also after service is, uh, Malocelli.
00:13:11Terrific battle here.
00:13:12And, uh, Ferrari still with the bragging rights.
00:13:14Uh, the 82 car we saw in just a, a few moments ago.
00:13:17He's away.
00:13:18So is, uh, Briscoe.
00:13:20Also on, uh, the lead lap then, uh, the car of Dirk Muller, the 68 car.
00:13:26So, uh, proper battle raging between, uh, that trio.
00:13:29And, in fact, uh, not much of a margin separating all of them.
00:13:32Oh, and, uh, and the Aston's only, only one lap back, uh, in front of all the, both of
00:13:42the Chevys.
00:13:43So, uh, that Aston's doing very well.
00:13:45We're on board the, uh, Chevrolet of Milner running in, uh, fifth place in class behind
00:13:51the Aston of, uh, uh, Sorensen.
00:13:54Some glorious sounds here.
00:13:55I'm looking at the grandstands as well.
00:13:57Largely empty, I must say.
00:13:59Um, get, grabbing some shut-eye.
00:14:01I'm always amazed, uh, Devel, at the ability of fans here, uh, to actually, uh, get themselves
00:14:06to sleep, especially when there's, uh, this kind of cacophony going on.
00:14:09But you used to spend a lot of your time here in a camper van in the infield of the, uh,
00:14:14Bugatti circuit, and you slept like a baby, I understand.
00:14:17Oh, well, I, actually, I worked through the night then, but I could actually go to sleep
00:14:21while racing was on, sort of, during the day, and I never had any problem with that.
00:14:25And, um, as far as I'm concerned, you know, I used to go the whole 24 hours.
00:14:31Uh, I don't know, because I'm not that stupid.
00:14:33Uh, I really don't, you know, there is a point at which you become incompetent.
00:14:38And, uh, I'm always incompetent, but, uh, you do become incompetent, and you're as well,
00:14:44sort of, to take a break from it.
00:14:46Uh, otherwise, it just goes on and on.
00:14:48I think that the other thing is that a lot of spectators who come here, when I used to come
00:14:52years and years ago, just purely, really impressed, before I was doing a commentator,
00:14:56I used to go out on the Mulsanne.
00:14:58I used to go down at the end of the Mulsanne.
00:15:00I used to spend an enormous amount of time going around the circuit and watching from different
00:15:03points, particularly in the dark, when you could get around.
00:15:06But there are so many spectators now that, uh, getting around the circuit is very, very
00:15:12difficult.
00:15:13Very, very different now.
00:15:14It takes absolutely ages.
00:15:15Very different now.
00:15:16Well, just, uh, following the 95 car of Sorensen at the moment, just staying with him as,
00:15:21uh, he circulates, running in, uh, fourth place, a lap down, and trying to un-lap himself.
00:15:27Well, the, uh, number seven car has, uh, moved by the 13.
00:15:32Um, this is the car that's going so quickly.
00:15:35Indeed.
00:15:36Um, and this was the one who had a pit stop under investigation.
00:15:39He's clearly, uh, got away with it, but, um, likewise, on a mission.
00:15:43This is Dirk Muller, uh, we're riding with right now.
00:15:46Um, the Red Strip, by the way, some of you asking about it, clearly it doesn't, uh, anger
00:15:49or upset the vision of the drivers, despite the fact it's carrying a bit of flair.
00:15:54It's for car identification as they are coming into the pits, so the, uh, the lollipop man
00:16:00knows who to waggle at.
00:16:01But, um, to my mind, it actually looks distracting, and likewise to many of the viewers.
00:16:06I'm just keeping an eye on these times again, and we've got a lot of people in the 325s
00:16:10now, we've got, what, can't we in the 324s on a regular basis, um, and the Rebellion has
00:16:17said, it's 326s, that is a quick car.
00:16:20That is a very quick car.
00:16:23Negri Jr. has just, uh, pitted in the Lige 49, and, um, the Rebellion, I think he's just
00:16:32about to come in for a pit stop, the 13 car, uh, but what a fight back by Audi.
00:16:37All credit to them, the 8 car and the 7, running in 4th and 5th place at the moment, albeit,
00:16:44uh, with a big deficit of, uh, what, 8 laps down is Marcel Fassler's 7 car.
00:16:51Yeah, but at the moment, you know, watching this carefully, uh, the Conway's Toyota have
00:16:56gone well, no great problems, the, that one Porsche has gone well, um, you know, surely
00:17:02in that little group, somebody is going to have a little bit of problem sooner or later.
00:17:07It might all tighten itself up again, yeah.
00:17:09Just pitting for Dirk Muller, uh, coming out of, uh, third position.
00:17:12In fact, here he comes, right down.
00:17:15Needs a tidy one for the Ford GT, uh, because the Aston of Sorensen has been on something of
00:17:20a mission.
00:17:20Let's have a look.
00:17:21Uh, Sorensen, uh, we remind you, a lap down running in 4th place, head of the Chevrolet
00:17:26of Milner.
00:17:28Great to see all of these, uh, makes being represented.
00:17:31Ferrari, Ford, Ford, Aston and Chevrolet.
00:17:34It's, it's a good mix, boys.
00:17:36It, it is lovely to have Ford back and, uh, have all these names back in, in GT racing.
00:17:43Terrific.
00:17:44It's, uh, it's great as well that the manufacturers were keen, uh, to put a spotlight on their own
00:17:49class and they knew that if Ford were racing here, that's precisely what would happen.
00:17:53So to everyone's advantage, but their performance advantage is something outstanding.
00:17:57Suggesting that they were sandbagging in the tests and got away with it for a long, long
00:18:01time.
00:18:02Um, well, they were modestly hobbled, I think it's fair to say, but clearly, uh, both Ferrari
00:18:09and Ford are functioning rather well, despite the disadvantages of, uh, extra weight that was
00:18:15imposed upon them.
00:18:15But the aerodynamics are right on the cars.
00:18:18That's the other thing.
00:18:19Um, when the GT40 was first delivered, there was all sorts of problems with aerodynamics
00:18:25on the cars.
00:18:26You don't get that today.
00:18:28At least it's properly understood.
00:18:29And when Ford came back, they did a very good job for the word go.
00:18:33Well, that, the, the Ford that we're seeing today has been quite a long time in, in the
00:18:39evolution of it.
00:18:40It doesn't, it didn't just appear overnight, you know, no, it wasn't just literally something
00:18:46to happen, you know, yesterday morning.
00:18:48Um, it does look otherworldly, I must admit, particularly, uh, at the rear end and, uh,
00:18:53just overshot the pit box by the looks of things.
00:18:55Uh, one of the Porsches indeed, uh, just, um, having to extricate himself, uh, with a brief
00:19:02reverse.
00:19:03That was Duval finally out and indeed away.
00:19:06We've now got the two, uh, Audis running, uh, one behind the other with Ollie Jarvis going
00:19:14out in the number eight and Marcel Fassler in, in number seven, albeit seven laps behind.
00:19:23These are the seven laps that car lost when it had the turbo change very early in the race.
00:19:30Yeah, he did lose some time, but the other car is, it is pretty well two laps.
00:19:38It just depends sort of where you look at it and when you look at it.
00:19:41Um, and it's, it's doable.
00:19:44It's doable.
00:19:44Um, just, uh, going to ask Jeremy if he can flag up when the Toyota of, uh, Mike Conway
00:19:51is due in.
00:19:52It wasn't that long ago that he was here.
00:19:54He's just completed lap 174 and we're still not even at the halfway stage within this race.
00:20:02Jeremy's saying he's halfway through his stint at the moment.
00:20:07So he's got a few, seven laps left.
00:20:10Well, he'll be flying because he's only got a minute and nine advantage.
00:20:15What's the average pit stop length?
00:20:17Well, better than six seconds.
00:20:20There we are.
00:20:21Just fuel alone.
00:20:22Well, if he takes one fuel alone, he'll come out with a lead.
00:20:25If it's absolutely impeccable of, uh, three seconds.
00:20:29That's how tight it is in the top boys.
00:20:31Don't see, he's going to fight it back.
00:20:32I mean, he's actually, um, funnily enough that Portia has done a very quick lap of a 324.
00:20:38And, uh, Conway's last lap was a 326.
00:20:43I don't think I can quite hear you.
00:20:45You just have a mic there.
00:20:46There we go.
00:20:47Oh, thank you very much.
00:20:48Thank you very much.

00:22:52be very tight the way it's standing at the moment min seven now is the gap dumar chasing on uh
00:22:57conway does need to pit it'll be his 13th stop incidentally uh 13 already taken by the porsche
00:23:03of dumar so the toyota range clearly displaying itself uh looking further down the order audis
00:23:10um looking at their pits striking out those uh for problems for the seven car they've had 14 stops
00:23:17so far with uh ollie jarvis on 14 uh 17 for uh uh the uh seven car of uh faster uh kramer in a big
00:23:26your part that is yes that's true i'm just looking along the along the line the uh cry harmer here
00:23:32of uh rebellion just dropping down into sixth place after that retrieval by audi which has been
00:23:37absolutely outstanding uh just shows it uh it's a never give up attitude that's required here
00:23:43in 24 hour race very much so looking at conway um he's been a little bit slow i think traffic
00:23:48probably has not been on his side if you don't have a clear run through traffic but just as you'd like
00:23:54you have every lap and probably that's the one he's suffering a little bit because he's dropped
00:23:58a little bit on that well we're on board with uh dumar at the moment with that uh porsche and in fact
00:24:04he's got a lot of clear running but he's clearly on a mission he's trying to catch uh mike conway at
00:24:09least close the gap so that once uh conway makes his stop he's going to be in a perfect position to
00:24:14retake the lead uh for porsche from toyota what a great battle we've got chris parsons
00:24:18this is just it's seesawing backwards and forwards with the pit stops but we know that the toyota can
00:24:24go further on a tankful than the porsche can and uh porsche uh toyota have also got two cars because
00:24:33they've got one in first place and third so they seem to have the upper hand at the moment
00:24:39fascinating under braking to see how the distance closes down um and here again and he's fine through
00:24:46gone that's it goodbye but remember two years ago toyota looked at this point in the race they had it
00:24:54had it completely wrapped up but about five o'clock in the morning just as it was getting light
00:24:59the car stopped it can all happen just like that um indeed the other thing of course is that when
00:25:06you get here i don't think we're going to have as sometimes is the case where you get a little bit
00:25:11of mist first thing in the morning i don't think it's going to happen this year um well i'm very
00:25:16surprised if we don't get some mist because there's so much ground uh moisture yeah um it depends on the
00:25:22temperature and the ambient temperature as to whether we do but that of course is the one thing
00:25:25when you're absolutely it's pitch dark and you're coming out into the light again that's when you
00:25:31really want to have your conways at the wheel so he's basically his eyes are in the whole thing is
00:25:37as it should be as it gets lighter that's what it can be the two things when you get dusk is difficult
00:25:43then when it gets light is difficult then and that's where the um the boys really can show their
00:25:49class uh the 90s tomato we could just caught a glimpse of it beautiful livery to my mind the uh
00:25:55the blue and white it's actually a very very pale blue incidentally rather than just a white but uh
00:26:01yeah uh functioning at 144 laps the lead car on 176 minute nine dumas uh uh narrowing of the gap
00:26:10was just extended ever so slightly and it looks like conway when he does come in at least if he's
00:26:15holding this kind of pace will actually re-exit and we're now tracing our leader uh lights flaring
00:26:23here you can't uh not overly defined it's uh luckily we've got hd television these days because
00:26:28uh you can actually pick out an awful lot more than he used to be able to yeah and uh standard
00:26:33definition where it was just a ball of light would have been very entertaining conway's just put in a
00:26:38one uh 324 yeah so uh and uh jumar 326 so conway's quite capable of fighting back it swings and
00:26:49roundabouts yeah it really is 38 cars uh battling once again and uh really posting in some spectacular
00:26:56times uh this is that g-drive racing um machine in bright orange not that you can see that at this
00:27:03time of night as we just uh go through some of the gaps that are um on the timing boards but
00:27:09graphically represented so you can see what the cars should look like if it wasn't so dark um but yes
00:27:14again dennis has just set a quickest first sector time this time it's a 34.362 so um if he doesn't get
00:27:23tangled up and it looks like it's just going to be overtaken right now i believe that's one of the
00:27:28forwards i beg your pardon um as it was uh revealed out of the shadows 12 hours and 34 minutes still
00:27:35remaining and uh the pace that these guys are traveling at still absolutely outstanding last uh
00:27:42lap was a 324 incidentally for conway and a 326 for dumas uh so just losing out uh second and a half
00:27:51over the 13 and more kilometers that make up this great track look at the time for 13 again right on
00:27:59the pace everybody's sort of saying oh well they can't really stay with the porsches they can't
00:28:06stay with the uh audi's they can't stay with the toyota's it's making a very very good job of it it is
00:28:13yeah the uh rebellions uh they've they've got a board as you mentioned it earlier that they draw a line
00:28:19through of the hybrid cars in front of them unfortunately for them they're out of the top
00:28:22five now because uh faster has managed to steer the number seven hybrid audi into fifth place so uh
00:28:30cryhammer is uh at the moment uh doing his level best to keep up but it's uh almost class of his own
00:28:37for the time being the privateers not quite sure whenever that's going to be equalized but uh for the
00:28:42time being not having a retrieval system and remarkably they are the fastest cars out here through the
00:28:48speed guns because of the variation in uh the pace of the hybrid cars uh drifting from a thousand
00:28:55horsepower down to 500 we saw perfectly as well on some of the kinks that we were experiencing
00:29:02around the track here we mentioned it earlier on today but um uh it's very difficult for the lmp2 cars
00:29:08to actually judge the approach speed of the hybrids because all of a sudden uh they can only have that
00:29:13they they they lose the hybrid drive the extra boost and they're essentially running at about the same
00:29:19pace as the p2 cars so if they don't get by um they kind of run alongside it causes a great deal of worry
00:29:26for just about everybody and next year that's going to be even even even more so because the lmp2 cars
00:29:33gain from 500 horsepower to 600 horsepower so they're going to be that much quicker she drives in uh this
00:29:41is uh the 38 car who really was on the attack and that's because he was about to pit uh so the fastest
00:29:47sector in one and is now here and being serviced uh running in uh fourth place uh Dennis incidentally so
00:29:56trying to uh uh make up the gap which stands at two minutes and 52 uh but still running uh just having
00:30:04a quick look now he is uh two laps down on the class leader as we stand one lap down plus uh some time
00:30:13here we are then 92 car
00:30:15and you really get an impression um but just how much light there is available i mean the modern
00:30:29modern headlights are fantastic i mean watching some of these girls on onboard really amazing
00:30:35gt cars running uh yellow headlamps by the way um the brightness the the sheer
00:30:40um amount of looms that are being put out by the uh p1 cars is uh quite startling i i think
00:30:49potentially distracting but um uh i guess it lights the way for just about everybody
00:30:55well you've got to take into account the amount of gain the golden cameras at night because that's
00:30:59also something another car that we've just seen coming back into the race is the clm
00:31:06with simon trumer uh at the wheel that we that's done 138 laps as as opposed to our leader with 177
00:31:17laps so well behind but considering they had a an engine fire in in free practice on wednesday
00:31:25afternoon they've done very well um how's the 84 car going at the moment just trying to have a quick
00:31:33looks trying to pick out where it is uh running 36th and in fact it uh it is uh christophe tanso who's
00:31:40on board at the moment that remarkable car which um is uh it's got the special garage 56 um
00:31:49denomination for new technology because it is switching between uh essentially a an adapted car for
00:31:56freddy so say and indeed uh the fully able-bodied drivers of tasso and bouvet so um great effort by
00:32:04them is being posted lovely on board shots we've got here uh on board the 92 which is running way down
00:32:09the order i'm afraid and the toyota and the porsche in the 324s both of them so there's certainly a huge
00:32:18effort being made here to try and maintain position i'm just looking carefully to see where brummie is
00:32:26he's still he's still on pace but he's got a little way to go before you know you'll have three on the
00:32:32same lap but it's a possibility but a remarkable performance by the ideas have brought themselves
00:32:37back up um they're not yet within real striking distance but they've gone extremely well and it's
00:32:43toyota porsche toyota then the two out is now running together um the 92 car by the way in the
00:32:49hands of uh jörg bergmeister who is um uh an extraordinarily handy driver um they um they've had a
00:32:58uh a full season in imsa mixed results in both the united states and indeed the uh world endurance
00:33:05championship and it makes results here as well but uh in that regard they are not alone the ferrari of uh
00:33:14maluchelli is the leading brand in the gt class um and for the time being at least breaking the hearts
00:33:21of uh ford but it's a tight battle nonetheless ford two and three at the moment with uh sorenson
00:33:28in the 24 aston martin running in uh 24th place overall but fourth in class jeremy and i are keeping
00:33:36our eye on sebastian bohemi he did a very slow lap last lap 33 but we wondered if there was a problem
00:33:45but then suddenly bounced straight back with a 24 so presumably traffic or traffic yeah it's traffic
00:33:51if the traffic if the traffic's kind you find if it's not tough um the other thing that we were
00:33:58talking earlier on was about uh changing disc pads and changing calipers one of the reasons why they
00:34:03rather change calipers it's as easy to change the calipers complete with discs as to chase it but the
00:34:08the units are all all made up exactly that's why but uh sebastian boy struggling 92 porsche he's
00:34:17falling back from uh uh in the porsche i'm actually wondering whether he's had a look here just
00:34:26trying to or has he got a flat tire i think he's got a problem with his front tire on the
00:34:36i was gonna say offside front tire because it is for us well i'm gonna fuel him and then we'll see
00:34:43whether he comes in let's have a look uh do you know what um engine let goes are not what you want
00:34:49just having a look to see where it is on track and in fact uh there we are um
00:34:55cars using all of uh uh all of the tarmac and some of it clearly with uh some degree of moisture
00:35:03there not quite sure what the fluid is but uh we've seen a couple of porsches go i'm afraid
00:35:08they're going to push it in the garage yes i think that's going into the garage well fueled and ready
00:35:14to go after that no uh no surprise there but um they've had their problems haven't they but they
00:35:21obviously having refueled it they obviously expected to come back out again so uh um
00:35:28maybe it wasn't the engine it was something else that was let letting the smoke out yeah pretty
00:35:32standard to fuel up even if there are some problems but uh clearly it looks like they're
00:35:37they're checking for uh um they're checking front suspension yeah just to see if all the ties are
00:35:44where they need where they need to be for the time being
00:35:50well no great movement they're gonna stay put just for the time being dubai incidentally uh lap down just
00:35:56waiting for these times to reveal themselves second uh half a second a lap quicker conway ahead of
00:36:02duma just for now so the closing speed of duma started to ebb just a little bit there's the 82 car
00:36:10class leader malicelli on board the ferrari we pick him up right now uh the gap from malicelli to briscoe
00:36:18we'll get it uh as the timing screens refresh after that crossing of the line but malicelli in a
00:36:25happy place at the moment this is great news for ferrari oh uh just like ford but we've got uh
00:36:31conway in the 324s we've got weimi in the 324s jarvis and faster all in the 324s now yes neville
00:36:39but then look right down the bottom in in 50th place yes and brendan hartley is doing 22s yeah in
00:36:47in porsche number one so there's nothing wrong with that car now not now no uh it's got a a mountain
00:36:54to climb however i'm gonna suggest even more than audi had at the beginning of this race but uh with
00:36:59still more than half the race to be completed in fact uh in 25 minutes time just a little bit less
00:37:07than that will only be at the halfway mark in this great race yeah he's got um he's got a fair but
00:37:13better time to make up but get himself into the probably in the teens i'd say he's faster uh just
00:37:20coming uh onto his marks had door problems earlier on incidentally uh here we are and also with the
00:37:30the five car also in uh buemi well up on the jacks didn't uh waiting it's a shame we just cut away
00:37:41before the uh uh before the wheel changes which they are rolling through now this is going to be a crucial
00:37:46stop for these guys uh the second place uh of the two toyota's running third incidentally is the five car
00:37:54well jenny's run a clock on them for us during these stops and we'll be doing throughout this
00:38:05evening uh he'll give us a time in a few moments time but a minute 52 down overall he's away uh
00:38:11dumar and conway conway about to come in i imagine he's only on 12 stops for the time being with his
00:38:18toyota 14 for buemi and in fact it's the hands of anthony davidson um anthony uh almost ultimate
00:38:26competitor i was talking about the potential for split strategies with only two cars i'm mentioning
00:38:32it earlier on this evening but um anthony said look we're just going to go for it as simple as that
00:38:37and uh it's a an aggressive strategy which is clearly paying off presumably he's he's going to take
00:38:43that car now through into the light yeah well that would be antagonized i'm anticipating this you
00:38:50know we said you know it it can be very very worrying if you're actually starting to come into half light
00:38:56and you can get yourself into all sorts of trouble doing that i don't know what time sunrise does
00:39:01anybody know it's usually about five o'clock yeah about five well uh we'll find it in a short while
00:39:06that's uh uh well that'll be a good long stint for uh uh uh anthony
00:39:14big flashes here from the uh number one porsche this is way down the order running in 50th place
00:39:21at the moment uh having completed uh on its uh 141st lap uh so 39 down on conway's toyota that leads
00:39:31this race and uh shows you what ill fortune can garner in terms of a disadvantage spirited fight back
00:39:42we're going to take ourselves a commercial break we'll be back with more live here at le mans after this
00:39:46the three weeks our effort is intense we really need a great training training it's a very complicated
00:40:03and it's very difficult to face because if there is really a lot of wind also who is walking behind
00:40:09and it's a lot of pain but i think that for the tour de france the most beautiful that of the last day that of the final
00:40:17and the champagne is a monument of truth is closer to nottingham anglia for a week before wimbledon
00:40:29we're back again at le mans at a time when we are still saying it's not yet quite halfway but what we can
00:40:51see now is as we suspected with the temperature as it is with the cars if you like spread a little
00:40:59bit now we're getting some really quick laps we've got 24s 26s and then of course we've got the
00:41:06revived i think that is a very good way of putting it the revived number one who when we last look he
00:41:12was in he was still in the um in the 22s i think it wasn't jerry back to the 24s at the moment so he's
00:41:19lapping roughly the same pace as the others yeah that wasn't that was a particularly quick lap at
00:41:2522. jeremy when sir when's mike conway due in uh mike conway is due in um next time around i would
00:41:33suggest next lap yeah this will be this will be his last lap i would think he's only it now and he's
00:41:39lapping very consistently uh as you just in the 24s last four laps have been within the same second which
00:41:45is which is pretty difficult to do when you're working your way through the traffic all the
00:41:49time but uh mike conway once again has done an excellent stint here he is now brings that car
00:41:54on to pit lane this is 181 laps completed then by our race leader and i think he's going to be able to
00:42:01rejoin without losing the lead is he going to make a is he going to stay in or is he going to get out
00:42:07though he's done a triple stint at the wheel of this car he took over behind the wheel at just before
00:42:14midnight and he's now done there for two hours and 40 minutes there's there's actually not a
00:42:22not an awful lot to choose between the pace of conway and davidson they're both of them i would
00:42:27say they're probably the quickest drivers in their respective cars it'll be very interesting to see
00:42:32what anthony can get down to in that car oh yeah um fresh tires cold air and uh could be very
00:42:41interesting yes sebastian broema was definitely struggling through since we had the safety car
00:42:46periods he was never really he never seemed pretty comfortable he was on the he wasn't on the phone to
00:42:50the team no on the radio to the team saying no yeah can we change tires um he was having difficulty
00:42:55building heat and size after the safety car interludes and and and has dropped back somewhat i mean he was
00:43:01he was only a few seconds behind number uh the the um porsche after the safety cars but uh dropped
00:43:09dropped a lot of time since then and was about uh half a minute behind when he came in to make the stop
00:43:15last time around anthony falls into that little group of drivers uh who when you put them uh on the um
00:43:25the test rig and everything else as well will suddenly stop and say i know i know that's what
00:43:31it says but if you do that i think it'll be better and they look at him and think well he must be out of
00:43:36his mind that that but he's usually right uh toyota have uh changed drivers yeah we have kobe ashley and
00:43:44now and roman juma did get past uh the number six toyota is now nine seconds behind roman juma yeah so that was
00:43:54uh a regular triple stint there for mike conway on that latest set of michelin tires now kobe kobe
00:44:01ashi takes over he'll be about 11 or 12 seconds behind him that's about right that's a little bit
00:44:06that's a little bit less than the time it takes to change the tire so because of that tire change
00:44:12uh the number six car has lost the lead for the first time since lap 143 that was when mike conway took over
00:44:19the lead uh of for the the most recent time and since lap uh since up 89 the number six cars led all bar
00:44:29now until now three laps so it's been really a pretty dominant performance over you know nearly 90
00:44:35odd laps here uh the number six cars led all by three of them well eight man if it is and i think it is
00:44:41with the size beche uh they've threatened to smack his fingers for not respecting the track limits
00:44:49yes we haven't heard the track limit one i've not seen that one before we thought we thought we'd put
00:44:57that one behind us yeah yeah we haven't seen too many of those not respecting the track limits but i suppose
00:45:05you know it you know it all makes work for the working man to do right
00:45:15getting up to speed 327 romance you my in the porsche
00:45:20329 davidson 327 yeah see that he's full of fuel and everything else as well so he's going to get rid of
00:45:28uh a bit of a bit of weight and then it'll start working its way back into the 224s again yeah another
00:45:37lap or two that yeah the the tires would have been heated there they have uh uh ovens here to heat up
00:45:43the tires before they put on the car uh of course they lose quite a bit of quite a bit of temperature
00:45:47actually by the time they're taking it out of the ovens and put on the car and driven slowly up the pit
00:45:52lane but it shouldn't take too long to get those tires up back to where they need to be
00:45:57to turn some quick laps but as you say level and he'll want to know the first couple of laps that
00:46:02he's out there he'll want to know where is there any vestige of oil if i get off the line there is
00:46:07any vestige you know all that sort of silly thing that people tend to forget when they come out i'll
00:46:12you know well yeah but no i mean no i mean he's got total confidence in his car and his ability and also
00:46:18he'll have been informed by uh yeah by sebastian powemi if there's anything out on the track that he needs
00:46:24to know about yeah watch this watch absolutely
00:46:32the other thing i'm not um i have looked at is the respective size of these guys and you probably would
00:46:38bear well i mean i know for example the davidson is not exactly the biggest guy in the world and
00:46:42the same replies to conway but conway is a little bit bigger than davidson and normally speaking what
00:46:48you try to do if you've got uh three drives in a car is to see if you can more or less keep them
00:46:53roughly the same size because it doesn't have course until you've got one big guy and two little ones
00:46:58yeah absolutely and yeah they are thankfully on both of those two cars so it does make life a lot easier
00:47:05from that perspective so kamee kamee kobe ashy is now no insectary that's weird that just a little bit
00:47:15of a glitch there three 25 one for dumas yeah uh we haven't got a time yet for cover actually have we
00:47:25really a proper time for him under 27 for davidson and a 27 also for ollie jarvis
00:47:36so it's still the same tune isn't it
00:47:41sector times is equaling roman jumar with a 30 32.97 exactly uh for the first sector and
00:47:54with that pit stop for the race leader last time around that has put the number eight car of oliver
00:48:00jarvis now back to just one lap down he had been locked a second time yeah when he came into the
00:48:05pits last time that was on lap 172 but he's now back just one lap down with that stock but then
00:48:11again the rate car is going to be he's going to be on pit lane in uh probably three more laps so that
00:48:16will bring back two laps off the pace and that will be roughly roughly the half distance lap i mean don't
00:48:23forget folks 12 hours over 13 minutes so it's not yet quite halfway and we've had some excitement we've
00:48:33had some changes now that was uh i saw very briefly there a shot of chris hoy did has he got over his
00:48:40problems that he had earlier on while i was off there i know he went off somewhere or the car went off
00:48:44somewhere other the chris hoy car is i'm just trying yeah pititola had a and off the birthday boy but
00:48:50it's okay now apparently so good and we're seeing that there's a uh drive-through penalty for uh the
00:48:58tracy chrome car uh for starting the engine while ref
00:49:14and i just thought we'd have got a respectable time for kawaiashi and we haven't got one of them
00:49:29we have a car in the wall here oh boy that looks like our nage yeah and it's going
00:49:37going not quite to the wall did it did they actually get to the wall no but it's going to be buried in
00:49:42the gravel trap isn't it 10 to half it's because loiter oh i think yeah nicholas loiter is where is he
00:49:51yeah i'm pretty sure it's 34 anyway i could only sort of see half see the number on it obviously a long
00:50:01way down yeah on the page 55th overall so um yeah it's one there's only one lmp2 car behind him
00:50:10actually that's the number 47 car that we saw expired a considerable time ago yeah
00:50:18and we're going to get a slow zone
00:50:20so it's going to cut the pace uh of the uh lap time certainly will roman to markup come in now is
00:50:31it you he's due in a couple of laps so probably next time around now we've got to cover ashley time look
00:50:41yeah because it was yeah that was the first flying lap yeah a 325 but it's giving us an idea you know
00:50:48that he's he is on the place oh yeah they are remarkably close and uh it's undoubtedly it has
00:50:57an awful lot to do with the fact that i think the toyota's have got that extra little balance of the
00:51:06extra lap and that could make all the difference yes but remember neville they both wrecked their
00:51:14engines spar which was the last race all right they were they were bottoming and uh they put it down
00:51:20to to bottoming but uh that was a six hour race and they lost both engines that was their story and
00:51:27they're sticking to it i would strongly suspect that um the cars were developed very very much around
00:51:36doing this particular race i think toyota came to this with every intention of whatever else they've
00:51:45got to if you like uh make any changes for we're going to have it absolutely right i think they did
00:51:52some proper testing and i think they've gone about it i think they've gone about it beautifully well
00:51:57they yes they certainly quite confidence seems to be there the whole of the time yeah yeah i was talking
00:52:03to brad kettler who's of course worked with the audi team for many many years based in north america
00:52:08worked with a champion team he's worked on that uh on the on the cars with lena gade uh for many many
00:52:14years unfortunately can't be here this this this year brad kettler because he had a road accident
00:52:19a couple of months ago now where he broke his sternum which wasn't very well i saw him at detroit
00:52:24a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me there how the the audi the audi team had definitely got the
00:52:32turner on their radar screen uh he said uh he suggested to me that the cars could be strong
00:52:37here and it certainly proved to be the case and yeah you know the first round at silverstone uh there
00:52:42was a sort of there was a calibration problem effectively with the gps system which uh affects
00:52:48all sorts of items on the car well who's that off the road that's the analysis that's number seven i think
00:52:55is it is it yeah that's the marcel fassler that's at the bottom of the hill after the dunlop car i've
00:53:06done look should be um perhaps i'm imagining it but it looks hot to me it doesn't look happy
00:53:16they've had all sorts of delays they have finally got themselves ahead of the number 13 car up into
00:53:22the fifth place overall it had the long delay early in the race where they lost six laps with a uh where
00:53:30they had to change a turbo well then later on they've had uh various other niggly little delays as well
00:53:35but yeah it is number seven yeah we can see that is yes sitting here or sitting there rather like alberton is
00:53:44alarm that's the audi that's had the troubles isn't it is
00:53:54so where is he exactly try hammers got past in the rebellion yeah where is he exactly he's just
00:54:01at the bottom of the hill is it les chapelles uh that away no that away that's away just after
00:54:10fast unlocked curves yeah oh dear that is you know so he's got a long way to go a long way to
00:54:16yeah to get back down then the old s isn't he and uh yeah he's uh cast grounded all you see
00:54:22they've got some electrical energy there because they only keep the headlights ablaze but nothing else
00:54:27now i'm presuming humor is in is in yes here we are and he's got the uh the audi going again oh
00:54:44this is lovely isn't it you know you switch it all off and try again and it's marvelous control alt delete
00:54:49yeah several times it took quite a while to get that car going again didn't it it's uh certainly
00:54:56not yet up to speed no no no well i don't think i don't care ah that's different i think he wishes
00:55:03he'd actually left it a little bit longer but he's there it sounds like he might be getting it back
00:55:12under electric power well you see it's certainly in limpo mode in some yeah it's going back isn't
00:55:18it but um the trouble is it's sort of yeah it is under electric prior but it's it's some it's
00:55:26unfortunately it's online isn't it he's got a long way to go yeah the circuit is eight and three
00:55:32quarter miles and he's only about two miles into the into the lap so he's got a good six miles to go
00:55:40yeah it's interesting that we've got of course now uh a lot of electricity if you like in the air
00:55:49it's going to be equally interesting if we get towards hydrogen isn't it when we get towards
00:55:56hydrogen yeah because exactly it's going to be another one isn't it yeah and i think um
00:56:02that's that far away there was a demonstration here yeah yesterday of a hydrogen car was there
00:56:10yeah they did a lap of the circuit bmw no no it was the uh the green gt ah yeah it's interesting
00:56:21also that there's this development that has been going on between toyota and bmw and one of the
00:56:26things that they're doing next year uh is going to give you a much larger range
00:56:35uh and funnily enough uh coming up over to the mall i followed my first two
00:56:47holy electric cars the american cars are teslas teslas uh one uh i sat with him on the m25
00:56:56bowling along quite nicely at 60 to 70 miles an hour indicated of course um and uh then was another
00:57:05one in the car park beautiful looking car it's like i've been to norway a couple of times recently
00:57:12and teslas are very popular there are lots of them yeah i was very impressed you know that it's gonna
00:57:20happen let's go ahead there's no doubt about it and volkswagen have announced that they're going
00:57:29yes a lot more electric cars yeah it's it's all changing and now we're putting the morgan away for
00:57:37five minutes as well and audi preparing they're here preparing for the excitement and it's still
00:57:46coming but he's taking some time it's going to mean that just trying to work out where he is and it's
00:57:53difficult in the dark isn't it you can easily see in the daylight you sort of someone can pick it out
00:57:57but here he is crawling home meanwhile i think he's very far away from us no i think i think that's still
00:58:08on the straight neville do you i think that's still he's actually still on the malls up yes
00:58:16what he is struggling then and he is going to struggle some more
00:58:19that's a frederich so say being lifted again into the yeah garage 56 entry kind of about 84 still
00:58:29running in 38th place overall christoph tanso has just a pretty lengthy stint at the wheel of
00:58:35that morgan nissen and it'll be frederich so so once again who takes over up the inside of that very
00:58:42nicely thank you very much and the lmp2 leader menendez in the alpine is four laps behind marcel fastler
00:58:56so i think he's going to take sixth place
00:59:02yeah we just have to wait and see what's wrong with this car it's it's still looking back it's still
00:59:07very much off the pace now is that coming headed towards uh it's still on the mall side this is
00:59:15think so where are we no no it's not yeah you're right so it took the first sector there took him
00:59:26over three minutes instead of 30 seconds so and he still hasn't got through no sector two exactly right
00:59:33yeah well
00:59:37we're going to leave you for a few moments by the time we come back so should he
00:59:49creo que bastante profesional que siempre me he preparado al cien por cien yo pienso
00:59:55primero en el tour y me preparo exclusivamente para el tour
