Asean member states should strengthen regional integrity through shared accountability and closer public-private cooperation in the fight against corruption, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Speaking at the opening of the 21st Asean Parties Against Corruption (Asean-PAC) Principals Meeting on Tuesday (Oct 28), she said the region’s rapid development must be grounded in transparency, integrity and justice to safeguard public trust.
Azalina added that Malaysia’s ongoing reforms reflect its belief that the fight against corruption should be a collective regional effort.

00:51And our region is advancing rapidly economically, technologically and socially.
00:56Yet, this progress must go in tandem with integrity.
01:01As corruption, for all of us in this room is aware, erodes public trust, weakens governance and undermines the unity that defines ASEAN.
01:11That is why the theme of today's meeting, Strengthening ASEAN Unity, Public-Private Partnership to Combat Corruption, could not be timelier.
01:22It reminds us that the responsibility to uphold integrity belongs to all of us, government, businesses, civil society and citizens alike.
01:34Only through shared commitment can we build systems that reward honesty, attract the public interest and uphold the rule of law.
01:44Ladies and gentlemen, members of the audience, Malaysia remains steadfast in advancing reforms that strengthen good governance.
01:52Under the law and institutional reform portfolio, which I am responsible under the provinces department, we continue to fortify legal and institutional frameworks, enhance the independence of enforcement and oversight body, and also cultivate ethical leadership and civic responsibility across society.
02:14These reforms reflect the modern government's belief that integrity must transcend borders, that national progress and regional cooperation must go hand-in-hand.
02:28ASEAN-PAC has evolved into a vital platform for dialogue, mutual learning and cross-border collaboration.
02:35It demonstrates ASEAN's collective resolve to confront corruption in all forms, aligning our regional commitments with global efforts under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
02:50Let this meeting today not be a routine gathering, but a forum where commitments become cooperation and cooperation leads to tangible change.
03:02Let us all be bold out of this gathering and this meeting, to be bold, to be innovative, and to be forward-looking, to ensure that institutions that we are in charge of remain resilient, adaptive, and trusted by the people that we serve.
