00:17What's it like being on the high streets?
00:19It's lovely, people get to park outside to be able to come in, so it's good to have parking outside.
00:25And then all the local villagers come in and we get people from further afield as well.
00:30Fantastic, so I was going to say what are we doing here then?
00:33But obviously it's Rangus Weeks and Kitchen Sinks, Kitchen Sinks, you know, your sweets and whatnot.
00:39So we always ask the question, but if there's one thing that you could pick out of Pankridge that you like the most, what do you reckon?
00:45Jaspers.

01:04For some reason the celebrities love Pankridge obviously.
01:07They do.
01:08So what about Pankridge Market, big favourite as well, top three things in the area, Pankridge Market?
01:13Pankridge Market's up there, definitely attracts a lot of people in and then obviously they come to the sweet shop.
01:18That's fantastic.
01:19Yeah, it's one of the busier days of the market days.
01:21Brilliant.
01:22So brilliant people, brilliant customers, brilliant market.
01:24Brilliant customers and it's just a very friendly place to live and work at.
01:28That's fantastic, thank you very much.
01:29So you're exchanging.
01:30So you said you might have been here for what 12 months, was it?
01:34It was about 12 months to say?
01:35And the Isle of Wight.
01:36Uh, here.
01:37Oh here, 12 months, yeah.
01:3812 months, yeah.
01:39So where did you live before?
01:40Isle of Wight.
01:41Isle of Wight.
01:42And also previously Germany as well.
01:43Germany a year ago, yeah.
01:44So, gotta ask the question.
01:46Yeah?
01:47Pankridge better than a lot of them.
01:49Can't beat the Isle of Wight.
01:51Can't beat the Isle of Wight.
01:53No, that's fantastic, that's fantastic.
01:55Obviously nice place, doesn't compare to the Isle of Wight though.
01:57Yeah.
01:58I mean, what do you like last time?
01:59Have you been here in Tarkman so far?
02:01I like the people actually.
02:03People?
02:04Yes.
02:05Probably people.
02:06They are, yeah.
02:07Ah, fantastic.
02:08Nice talkative people.
02:09It is, they're very very friendly as well.
02:10I've got to say, the High Street as well, it's sort of like, it's sort of, it's very, it feels very different.
02:14And you've got the market as well.
02:15Yeah, the market as well.
02:17Renowned market down here.
02:18Oh it is, yeah.
02:19And you sometimes get some famous places.
02:21We had Basil Brush down here the other week.
02:22Oh, did they?
02:23Yeah, we had Basil Brush down here the other week.
02:25Yeah, you know the guy off the line, you know the guy before the high business on Britain's Got Talent.
02:29And down here as well.
02:30Really?
02:31Yeah.
02:32To say for the stars.
02:33Yeah.
02:34So, if you could pick one of your favourite things, the one favourite thing, other than people,
02:37like Penbridge, what do you reckon it would be?
02:39Markets?
02:40Market?
02:41High Street?
02:42I like the markets out there.
02:44Markets.
02:45I do like the markets.
02:46I think that's going to be everyone's decision in the market.
02:49That's fantastic.
02:50Yeah.
02:51Right, so we're here with Phil.
02:52Phil, have a good, good weather for people.
02:54Hello.
02:55Good weather for Penbridge, isn't it?
02:56You know?
02:57It's blooming beautiful indeed.
02:58Always carry a brolly.
02:59Just in case.
03:00Smart man.
03:01Smart man.
03:02So, what's your history here then?
03:03What's your history here?
03:04How long have you been living here for?
03:05I started here in 1970.
03:071970.
03:08Got married in 1970.
03:09And moved to our first house here.
03:11Since then we've had five or six houses in Penbridge.
03:16Gradually moving up.
03:17And then as I got older, gradually moving down, you know.
03:20Man of the area.
03:21And so, yeah, I've been here, what, 56 years.
03:25Brilliant.
03:26So, over the 56 years, ask it every time.
03:28It's a question of the day.
03:29If you could pick one thing that's the best thing in the area, what do you reckon it is?
03:33The village life.
03:35The village life.
03:36I mean, look at it.
03:37I know, I know if you own one of the shops, you're going to say, we don't want it quiet.
03:41But it's lovely and quiet.
03:43Yeah.
03:44And it's safe.
03:45You can come out and you can walk out at night and feel safe, you know.
03:50Okay, we get the odd little spot of bother, but who doesn't?
03:53The youngsters have got to grow up, haven't they?
03:55Well, it's very different.
03:56It's very different from like, you know, your city-based, your city-based area.
04:00I was brought up and spent my childhood, should we say, in Wolverhampton.
04:04Okay, yeah.
04:05So, you know, but you, even in those days, you didn't want to stop in town much after half past 10.
04:11Now you're sick of houses, yeah.
04:13It's nice to say that.
04:14And there's some good pubs.
04:15So, village life.
04:16That's what you want.
04:17So, village life, yeah.
04:18Now, if you could pick, because you've been here for a while now, yeah.
04:20Yeah.
04:21So, you obviously know the shops, yeah.
04:22Pick one shop.
04:23Somebody from out of Pankridge is coming to visit.
04:24If you're going to point them in any direction at one shop, what do you reckon it would be?
04:27Oh, dear.
04:28Okay.
04:29It could be a shop, it could be a pub.
04:30It could be a pub, it could be a shop, it could be whichever you like.
04:32Well, at the moment, I'd send them down the jockey.
04:34The jockey?
04:35You know, which has not long been done out, actually, and they've made a fantastic job of
04:39it.
04:40It really is good.
04:41On this weather as well, huh?
04:42Nice cider.
04:43Lovely garden outside.
04:44And if you go just up here and round the corner, there's another pub.
04:48Right.
04:49No, the White Hart's down there.
04:52It's well, well to do for pubs.
04:54Oh, that's fantastic.
04:55And it's nice.
04:56But the shops, yeah.
04:57There's nothing you can't get here, if you really want it, you know.
05:01Because most people like they do go to the big supermarkets to do their weekly shop.
05:07But most of the essentials, you can get here.
05:10So, obviously, you've got a very prestigious market, you know.
05:13Very popular market.
05:14Oh, Penkridge Market.
05:15Do you visit them much?
05:16Do you go much?
05:17Oh, yeah, every week.
05:18Yeah.
05:19You know, like, yesterday was Bank Holiday, and I always have a car boot sale there on
05:23Bank Holiday, and they had the market on there.
05:25And if you've got the weather, it's a lovely half day out, and people come from miles to
05:30go to Penkridge Market.
05:31It's well known.
05:32If I go, I was up north a couple of weeks ago, and they said, where are you from?
05:36I said, oh, Penkridge, all right.
05:37And they all say, great market.
05:38Penkridge Market.
05:39Yeah, we've got a market, you know.
05:41We've had it for, I think, about a thousand years now, you know.
05:46And supermarkets have tried to build on there and get planning permission, but some king
05:52from a thousand years ago says, no, no, no, no supermarkets.
05:55So you're not looking for a house anywhere else anytime soon?
05:58No, no, no.
05:59We're quite happy where we are.
06:00That's fantastic.
06:01You know, we might sell it and spend the grandkids' inheritance.
06:05Well, there you go.
06:06For any potential buyers, you know, nice three bedroom house there in Penkridge.
06:11That's nice, yes, yes, yes.
06:12That's brilliant.
06:13Thank you very much.
06:14You're welcome.
06:15That's fantastic.
