So Jodie, Jodie if you don't mind saying where we are, promote the shop a little bit obviously.
00:09
We're at Trudy's Sweet Shop in Pankridge.
00:11
Fantastic, so what's it like going in there? Because obviously this is a very popular shop, loads of people love it.
00:17
What's it like being on the high streets?
00:19
It's lovely, people get to park outside to be able to come in, so it's good to have parking outside.
00:25
And then all the local villagers come in and we get people from further afield as well.
00:30
Fantastic, so I was going to say what are we doing here then?
00:33
But obviously it's Rangus Weeks and Kitchen Sinks, Kitchen Sinks, you know, your sweets and whatnot.
00:39
So we always ask the question, but if there's one thing that you could pick out of Pankridge that you like the most, what do you reckon?
00:45
Jaspers.
00:46
Jaspers.
00:50
I'll tell you what, Jaspers is quite well known, you know.
00:53
Jaspers is popular.
00:54
Jaspers is popular.
00:55
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
00:56
So you also do, I mean, there's also a strong link with celebrity around here, isn't there?
01:00
We've had...
01:01
We've had Basil Brosh, we've had Vigo Ven.
01:04
For some reason the celebrities love Pankridge obviously.
01:07
They do.
01:08
So what about Pankridge Market, big favourite as well, top three things in the area, Pankridge Market?
01:13
Pankridge Market's up there, definitely attracts a lot of people in and then obviously they come to the sweet shop.
01:18
That's fantastic.
01:19
Yeah, it's one of the busier days of the market days.
01:21
Brilliant.
01:22
So brilliant people, brilliant customers, brilliant market.
01:24
Brilliant customers and it's just a very friendly place to live and work at.
01:28
That's fantastic, thank you very much.
01:29
So you're exchanging.
01:30
So you said you might have been here for what 12 months, was it?
01:34
It was about 12 months to say?
01:35
And the Isle of Wight.
01:36
Uh, here.
01:37
Oh here, 12 months, yeah.
01:38
12 months, yeah.
01:39
So where did you live before?
01:40
Isle of Wight.
01:41
Isle of Wight.
01:42
And also previously Germany as well.
01:43
Germany a year ago, yeah.
01:44
So, gotta ask the question.
01:46
Yeah?
01:47
Pankridge better than a lot of them.
01:49
Can't beat the Isle of Wight.
01:51
Can't beat the Isle of Wight.
01:53
No, that's fantastic, that's fantastic.
01:55
Obviously nice place, doesn't compare to the Isle of Wight though.
01:57
Yeah.
01:58
I mean, what do you like last time?
01:59
Have you been here in Tarkman so far?
02:01
I like the people actually.
02:03
People?
02:04
Yes.
02:05
Probably people.
02:06
They are, yeah.
02:07
Ah, fantastic.
02:08
Nice talkative people.
02:09
It is, they're very very friendly as well.
02:10
I've got to say, the High Street as well, it's sort of like, it's sort of, it's very, it feels very different.
02:14
And you've got the market as well.
02:15
Yeah, the market as well.
02:17
Renowned market down here.
02:18
Oh it is, yeah.
02:19
And you sometimes get some famous places.
02:21
We had Basil Brush down here the other week.
02:22
Oh, did they?
02:23
Yeah, we had Basil Brush down here the other week.
02:25
Yeah, you know the guy off the line, you know the guy before the high business on Britain's Got Talent.
02:29
And down here as well.
02:30
Really?
02:31
Yeah.
02:32
To say for the stars.
02:33
Yeah.
02:34
So, if you could pick one of your favourite things, the one favourite thing, other than people,
02:37
like Penbridge, what do you reckon it would be?
02:39
Markets?
02:40
Market?
02:41
High Street?
02:42
I like the markets out there.
02:44
Markets.
02:45
I do like the markets.
02:46
I think that's going to be everyone's decision in the market.
02:49
That's fantastic.
02:50
Yeah.
02:51
Right, so we're here with Phil.
02:52
Phil, have a good, good weather for people.
02:54
Hello.
02:55
Good weather for Penbridge, isn't it?
02:56
You know?
02:57
It's blooming beautiful indeed.
02:58
Always carry a brolly.
02:59
Just in case.
03:00
Smart man.
03:01
Smart man.
03:02
So, what's your history here then?
03:03
What's your history here?
03:04
How long have you been living here for?
03:05
I started here in 1970.
03:07
1970.
03:08
Got married in 1970.
03:09
And moved to our first house here.
03:11
Since then we've had five or six houses in Penbridge.
03:16
Gradually moving up.
03:17
And then as I got older, gradually moving down, you know.
03:20
Man of the area.
03:21
And so, yeah, I've been here, what, 56 years.
03:25
Brilliant.
03:26
So, over the 56 years, ask it every time.
03:28
It's a question of the day.
03:29
If you could pick one thing that's the best thing in the area, what do you reckon it is?
03:33
The village life.
03:35
The village life.
03:36
I mean, look at it.
03:37
I know, I know if you own one of the shops, you're going to say, we don't want it quiet.
03:41
But it's lovely and quiet.
03:43
Yeah.
03:44
And it's safe.
03:45
You can come out and you can walk out at night and feel safe, you know.
03:50
Okay, we get the odd little spot of bother, but who doesn't?
03:53
The youngsters have got to grow up, haven't they?
03:55
Well, it's very different.
03:56
It's very different from like, you know, your city-based, your city-based area.
04:00
I was brought up and spent my childhood, should we say, in Wolverhampton.
04:04
Okay, yeah.
04:05
So, you know, but you, even in those days, you didn't want to stop in town much after half past 10.
04:11
Now you're sick of houses, yeah.
04:13
It's nice to say that.
04:14
And there's some good pubs.
04:15
So, village life.
04:16
That's what you want.
04:17
So, village life, yeah.
04:18
Now, if you could pick, because you've been here for a while now, yeah.
04:20
Yeah.
04:21
So, you obviously know the shops, yeah.
04:22
Pick one shop.
04:23
Somebody from out of Pankridge is coming to visit.
04:24
If you're going to point them in any direction at one shop, what do you reckon it would be?
04:27
Oh, dear.
04:28
Okay.
04:29
It could be a shop, it could be a pub.
04:30
It could be a pub, it could be a shop, it could be whichever you like.
04:32
Well, at the moment, I'd send them down the jockey.
04:34
The jockey?
04:35
You know, which has not long been done out, actually, and they've made a fantastic job of
04:39
it.
04:40
It really is good.
04:41
On this weather as well, huh?
04:42
Nice cider.
04:43
Lovely garden outside.
04:44
And if you go just up here and round the corner, there's another pub.
04:48
Right.
04:49
No, the White Hart's down there.
04:52
It's well, well to do for pubs.
04:54
Oh, that's fantastic.
04:55
And it's nice.
04:56
But the shops, yeah.
04:57
There's nothing you can't get here, if you really want it, you know.
05:01
Because most people like they do go to the big supermarkets to do their weekly shop.
05:07
But most of the essentials, you can get here.
05:10
So, obviously, you've got a very prestigious market, you know.
05:13
Very popular market.
05:14
Oh, Penkridge Market.
05:15
Do you visit them much?
05:16
Do you go much?
05:17
Oh, yeah, every week.
05:18
Yeah.
05:19
You know, like, yesterday was Bank Holiday, and I always have a car boot sale there on
05:23
Bank Holiday, and they had the market on there.
05:25
And if you've got the weather, it's a lovely half day out, and people come from miles to
05:30
go to Penkridge Market.
05:31
It's well known.
05:32
If I go, I was up north a couple of weeks ago, and they said, where are you from?
05:36
I said, oh, Penkridge, all right.
05:37
And they all say, great market.
05:38
Penkridge Market.
05:39
Yeah, we've got a market, you know.
05:41
We've had it for, I think, about a thousand years now, you know.
05:46
And supermarkets have tried to build on there and get planning permission, but some king
05:52
from a thousand years ago says, no, no, no, no supermarkets.
05:55
So you're not looking for a house anywhere else anytime soon?
05:58
No, no, no.
05:59
We're quite happy where we are.
06:00
That's fantastic.
06:01
You know, we might sell it and spend the grandkids' inheritance.
06:05
Well, there you go.
06:06
For any potential buyers, you know, nice three bedroom house there in Penkridge.
06:11
That's nice, yes, yes, yes.
06:12
That's brilliant.
06:13
Thank you very much.
06:14
You're welcome.
06:15
That's fantastic.
