00:00Imagine you're on a plane, cruising at 16,000 feet, maybe sipping a little ginger ale,
00:04when all of a sudden the door next to you blows off mid-flight.
00:08No, it's not a disaster movie.
00:10It's Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 in January of 2024.
00:14Just six minutes after takeoff, a door plug detached, blasting open a hole in the fuselage.
00:19The plane made an emergency landing, and while no one died, the passengers experienced intense trauma.
00:24Three passengers sued Boeing and Alaska Airlines for $1 billion,
00:27alleging emotional and physical trauma.
00:29Investigation showed Boeing staff had removed the door plug during assembly,
00:33but missed reinstalling crucial bolts.
00:35The lawsuit was settled out of court in July of 2025,
00:38and although the terms weren't disclosed, the message was clear.
00:41Every detail in aviation matters, down to the last bolt.
00:44This incident added fuel to Boeing's existing fires, whistleblower reports,
00:48mounting losses, and growing scrutiny from the public.
