00:36Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:38We begin this morning in Colombia, where the search for survivors has pushed into the night
00:42after the country's most powerful earthquake this century killed more than 160 people
00:47and left others trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
00:50The earthquake struck Western Colombia Monday, damaging about 1,600 buildings across the country.
00:55At least 61 totally collapsed.
00:58Captured on video this moment, just after the 7.4 quake hit.
01:06Part of a building giving way as debris crashes into the street and a wall of dust follows.
01:11But amid all that destruction, moments like this, rescue crews pulling a woman alive from the rubble
01:18in Montezales, carrying her out on a stretcher and into a waiting ambulance.
01:23This morning, that search continues, with people still believed to be trapped.
01:27This camera was watching the Navajo del Ruiz volcano when the earthquake hit.
01:32You can see just how violently the ground starts shaking.
01:35The quake was centered near San Jose del Palmar in Chaco, but the shaking was felt across Colombia
01:41and into neighboring Ecuador and Panama.
01:45The death toll has now reached at least 164, according to Reuters, with dozens more injured.
01:50Those numbers could still rise as crews reach some of the hardest-ed areas.
01:55Colombia has declared a national emergency, with troops, specialized rescue teams, and equipment
02:01now moving into the disaster zone.
02:03And for crews on the ground this morning, the priority has not changed.
02:07Find the people still buried in the rubble and get to them alive.
02:11President Trump says the Strait of Hormuz is open, and claims the U.S. now runs the critical
02:17shipping lane.
02:18Trump told reporters Monday the U.S. controls the Strait 100 percent, and called the Navy's
02:24blockade of ships heading to or from Iran, quote, infallible.
02:28Iran disagrees, insisting it controls security in the Strait, and Iran refuses to fully reopen
02:34it unless the U.S. meets a list of demands.
02:37Those include lifting sanctions and paying Iran for damage from the war.
02:42Trump's response?
02:44Iran should pay the United States instead.
02:46They asked for reparations, you might say, or they asked for money for the damage that
02:55we've done.
02:55I said, that's a good idea.
02:56Well, we're going to ask for money for the damage they've done over a 50-year period.
03:00Whether you go SS Cole or whether you go all of the people that were so badly hurt, so
03:05badly wounded or killed, many thousands of people.
03:08Trump also said Iran should compensate the families of protesters killed by the Iranian
03:13government, including what he claims are 52,000 people killed in the last five months.
03:19He says he has instructed his negotiators to make compensation part of any future talks.
03:25And this is getting a lot of attention this morning.
03:28President Trump publicly boarded Air Force One in Turkey last month, but he never left
03:33the country on it, according to the Washington Post.
03:36Trump had flown to Ankara for the NATO summit on the newer, Qatar-donated presidential jet.
03:42Before leaving, he said he would switch to the older Air Force One for old time's sake,
03:47and then boarded that plane in front of cameras.
03:49But minutes later, Trump secretly got off on the other side.
03:54The Post reports an airport catering truck, you can see it here in the pictures behind
03:58the plane, took the president and a small group of aides across the tarmac to a third plane,
04:05an Air Force C-32A.
04:07That plane flew Trump to Britain.
04:09The older Air Force One took off also, with reporters and some White House staff aboard,
04:14who believed the president was still with them.
04:17So why all the secrecy?
04:19U.S. officials previously told CBS News they had detected a credible plot by Iran and its
04:25proxies to fire a missile at the plane carrying Trump.
04:29The Secret Service then moved to a backup plan.
04:32The White House now says those kinds of precautions are necessary because enemies of the United States
04:37have their sights on the president.
04:39To a separate topic now, President Trump has signed an executive order calling for major changes to the
04:45childhood vaccine schedule, including spacing out shots and breaking up the MMR vaccine.
04:51The order calls for separating the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine into three individual shots,
04:58something that is not currently available in the U.S.
05:00It also calls for childhood vaccines to be given at separate appointments whenever possible.
05:06While announcing the changes, Trump once again raised the possibility of a connection between vaccines and autism.
05:13Decades ago, children received only a small fraction of the vaccines required today.
05:19In those times, people were much healthier.
05:21And of course, the high rates of autism now observed did not exist.
05:26Well, we do not know exactly what the cause is with respect to autism.
05:31It is essential to our research efforts that we have the very best vaccine recommendations in the entire world.
05:38So we're reducing them.
05:40We're changing it to visits over a period of a year, a year and a half.
05:43So they get 20 percent of what they would have gotten in one big shot.
05:48A big shot like the size of a large glass of something.
05:53But decades of research involving millions of children have found no link between childhood vaccines and autism.
06:00The order also directs the Health and Human Services Department to conduct more vaccine research
06:05and develop a plan to make separate measles, mumps and rubella shots available.
06:10Medical groups are pushing back.
06:12The American College of Physicians called the order part of a, quote,
06:16troubling pattern by the administration to attempt to unilaterally change vaccine guidance
06:21rather than relying on the transparent scientific review.
06:25And one of the sharpest responses came from within Trump's own party.
06:29Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, who is a doctor and chairs the Senate Health Committee,
06:33said flatly, this executive order is wrong.
06:36He added, vaccines are overwhelmingly safe.
06:39Vaccines are effective.
06:41Vaccines do not cause autism.
06:43We should note that states, not the federal government,
06:46still control vaccine requirements for schoolchildren.
06:49This morning, the U.S. has a new attorney general.
06:53Todd Blanche was sworn in Monday by federal appeals court judge Emile Bove,
06:58another former attorney for President Trump.
07:00Blanche won Senate confirmation early Saturday in a razor-thin 50 to 49 vote
07:05with every Democrat and two Republicans, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, voting against him.
07:11Blanche has already overseen investigations into several Trump opponents,
07:15including former FBI Director James Comey.
07:18But Blanche says he feels no pressure to placate the president.
07:22At the same time, he says the president has both the right and duty
07:26to involve himself in Justice Department matters.
07:29Blanche had already been leading the Justice Department on an acting basis
07:33since Trump fired Pam Bondi in April.
07:35We want to end this morning with some really sad news out of Big Bear, California.
07:41Jackie, the beloved bald eagle viewed by millions of people around the world, has died.
07:46She was about 14 years old.
07:48For years, people watched Jackie and her mate, Shadow, build their nest, weather snowstorms,
07:54care for their eggs, and raise their young all through a live stream high above Big Bear Lake.
08:00And people really did fall in love with them.
08:03Rescuers saved Jackie last month after she was found weak and unable to fly
08:07following a fight with two younger eagles.
08:10She spent more than three weeks at the Ojai Raptor Center,
08:13where veterinarians discovered she was severely anemic.
08:16They gave her a blood transfusion and round-the-clock care,
08:20but never found what was making her so sick.
08:23She died early Monday.
08:25Jackie leaves behind quite a legacy.
08:27She and Shadow raised several eaglets, including Luna and Sandy, who fledged just this summer.
08:34The Ojai Raptor Center ended its message about Jackie with this.
08:38To everyone who cared about Patient 26519, thank you.

08:46and for standing beside our team throughout these past weeks.
