00:00A new ICE facility being called the Cornhusker Clink is opening in Nebraska
00:04and residents we spoke with seem optimistic but still curious.
00:11The new facility will be in the town of McCook. The site is located at an already operational
00:16work ethic camp and will expand ICE detention space in the area by 280 beds. Today, the state
00:23of Nebraska is stepping up its support of President Trump's and Secretary Noem's immigration
00:27enforcement initiatives in several key ways, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen said. Secretary
00:32of Homeland Security Kristi Noem praised the governor and the state. The money for this
00:37new facility comes from the recent budget bill passed by the Trump administration. As part
00:42of this development, local Nebraska law enforcement will now also take a bigger role in policing
00:47immigrants. And it's a way to keep people in this community safe, keep people in Nebraska
00:56safe. That's what people like myself and people that will be working out there will be ensuring
01:02is the safety of the community and the safety of people in Nebraska and in the whole country.
01:06Others within the department still have some questions.
01:09With the fact that are illegal, don't have any address on file, supposedly, whenever they get
01:19released, where do they go? Do we make arrangements to send them wherever they want to go? Do we send
01:31them outside of the United States if the judge thinks that they can be in the country? Now, if they are found
01:47not guilty and they have to be released, where do we send them? People in the community also have some
01:53questions about the plan. We're trying to get more information so we know how we as a community need to
01:58position ourselves, how we can be both accommodating and prepared for whatever lies in store for what's
02:03happening out at the work ethic camp. While questions may linger, others are excited for what this
02:08facility will mean to the state of Nebraska. The other way I think it will bring a good impact on the
02:13business parts whereby it will influence a movement of people in this town. There will be
02:19facilitators who will be working here. It will bring in more workers into town. This facility
02:24follows other new alliterative detention centers like Alligator Alcatraz and the Deportation Depot in
02:30Florida. For Straight Arrow News, I'm Lauren Keenan. If you want more on this story,
