00:00Months after Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour announced she'd be stepping down from the role,
00:05she's tapped Chloe Mao as her successor.
00:10It was July of 1988 when Wintour was announced as Vogue's editor-in-chief,
00:15where she expanded the magazine's influence and turned it into one of the most powerful
00:20magazines in the world, including transforming the Met Gala into the blockbuster cultural event
00:26it is today.
00:27What was your favorite Met Gala theme of all time?
00:30Always, always the next one.
00:3237 years later, Vogue has announced Wintour's successor as 39-year-old Chloe Mao,
00:38who is about the same age as Wintour when she first accepted the same role.
00:42Mao is currently an editor at Vogue.com and co-host of podcast The Run-Through with Vogue,
00:48but has been at Vogue since 2011 when she started out as a social editor.
00:52Today we're going to talk about modern etiquette, because believe it or not,
00:55you can still be polite in 2015.
00:57Mao went on to become a contributing editor at Vogue, where she wrote features and oversaw special
01:03projects. She even recently interviewed Lauren Sanchez-Bezos for her June Vogue cover story when
01:09she married Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. In Vogue's announcement, Mao wrote,
01:14fashion and media are both evolving at breakneck speed, and I am so thrilled and awed to be part
01:20of that. I also feel incredibly fortunate to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor.
01:26In the role, editor-in-chief is in charge of things like editorial vision and content decisions.
01:32Mao told the New York Times that she knew whoever was in this role would not succeed if they produced
01:38what she called Anna Light, saying she's excited to put her own stamp on things.
01:43Now, Wintour is not completely done with Vogue. Condé Nast is the media company that publishes
01:49Vanity Fair, GQ, and Vogue, among other titles. Wintour became their chief content officer in 2020
01:56and will remain in that role, even as Mao replaces her as Vogue's editor-in-chief,
02:01effective immediately. With Straight Arrow News, I'm Kennedy Felton. Download our app or visit
