00:00Silicon Valley leaders have launched a pro-AI political action committee ahead of next year's midterms.
00:07The new committee is called Leading the Future and is headed by two political strategists.
00:13They issued a joint statement saying, quote,
00:15This is about more than technology. It's about economic growth, national security, and global leadership.
00:21Leading the Future is here to make sure innovation wins.
00:24Major supporters of the new PAC include venture capitalist firm Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI president Greg Brockman.
00:31They've already raised $100 million in initial funding.
00:34A big difference between this PAC and others is this one is focused on a single issue.
00:39A political party reflects lots and lots of different issues that the party supports.
00:47Different candidates for the party may have somewhat different views of different issues.
00:50This is a very, very targeted, single issue oriented super PAC.
00:57The team behind the new PAC says the goal is to make sure the U.S. remains the global leader in AI through policies at the state and federal levels.
01:06Political action committees allow organizations to back candidates of their choosing without violating campaign finance laws.
01:12Those laws prevent companies from donating directly to candidates.
01:15I would be surprised if this particular new super PAC radically kind of changes the debate about these issues and the reaction to, you know, the enormous amounts of money that now are spent on our elections.
01:31It's already the case that in public opinion polling, you know, very large majorities of Americans don't like the system, don't like the amount of money that's spent on elections.
01:43The team from Leading the Future also put a heavy focus on making sure the U.S. stays ahead of China when it comes to AI.
