00:00There's a huge buzz on social media about the fan base running out of patience with Anthony Volpe.
00:05So what's Boone going to do with him and are there any options, I guess, out there to replace him?
00:13Yeah, I think he's going to keep running out there.
00:15I think, you know, I think Aaron Boone is one of Volpe's biggest supporters.
00:19You know, he said yesterday there's a lot of noise around it,
00:22but he thinks he's having a pretty productive offensive season.
00:25Which when you look at his OPS is, you know, we're almost at the halfway mark of the season.
00:30And Volpe's OPS is, you know, a few ticks above league average.
00:35You know, he had gotten off to before this last 15 day, you know, two week stretch, whatever it is.
00:41You know, he had been he had put together five, six week stretch where he was pretty consistent at the plate.
00:48You know, he's he's a guy who his first two years in the big leagues,
00:52he was either pretty hot or incredibly cold and often little in between.
00:57So I understand why he can be a kind of a maddening player to watch for the fan base.
01:02But it looked like he was kind of, you know, minimizing those.
01:06That's that's that streakiness until this last stretch here, where obviously it's, you know,
01:12it's been almost, you know, 10, 10 games, two weeks where he really cooled off in a big way.
01:18So but I think they're going to keep running him out there.
01:21I think they don't really have a ton of options behind him unless you want to play Oswald Peraza at shortstop,
01:25who's obviously a great defender, but hasn't really showed much at all with the bat whenever he's gotten any real opportunities in the big leagues.
01:34So I think the Yankees are banking on both be kind of snapping out of this and being, you know, a steady contributor.
01:43You know, he's had I think he has 20 doubles, he's 40 plus RBI.
01:48So when you know, those are both going to be career highs for him by the end of the year.
01:53When you stack him up against other shortstops, he's kind of the middle of the pack in terms of offensive production.
01:58And generally, he's been a strong defender. He's had a few more hiccups this year than regular and his base running is kind of falling off.
02:07He hasn't been as much of a stolen base threat. So, you know, it's it's tough to kind of know what to make a Volpe season to this point,
02:15because there has been some good moments. But obviously, this last two weeks is kind of cast cloud over that.
02:20But I think they're going to keep running him out there. He's going to be their guy.
02:23I think it would take a lot. I think it's going to take more, you know, a deeper strut, deeper slump than this to kind of get him out of there.
