00:00We've been on a great run of having offensive linemen play at the college level,
00:04but more importantly, the Division I level, which in Long Island football,
00:10I understand nationally we may not get the attention that is deserved here,
00:15but to put four guys in the last four years at the Division I level
00:21is a testament to, number one, what we're doing,
00:25but also the level of football that's being played here.
00:27It also helps that genetically they are 6'3", 6'5", 6'6", and 6'7".
00:34That always helps too, but yes, we do believe in the development of our linemen here at Sagem North.
00:39We have tough kids here. There's a toughness. This game is built on toughness.
00:44You come to Long Island, you're going to get a tough kid.
00:47You come to Sagem North, you're going to get a tough kid.
00:49So we do have a reputation here.
00:52If you look at this wall up here, you're dating back to the 80s.
00:56You see Michigan on here. You see Penn State on here.
00:59All the way, obviously, to the modern era, and now we're pumping out Syracuse.
01:02We're pumping out University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook.
01:06So we're very proud of that.
01:08It's really cool. I used to have a group chat with all the guys that go off to college,
01:12and I still talk to all those guys. I love seeing them.
01:15They've paved the way.
01:17Listen, I've been really lucky to coach some absolute monsters, and it's been easy.
01:22It's easy to coach those guys at a 6'6", 6'7", 280, 290 pounds, and it's fun, and they all love football, right?
01:30So that's been the most important thing.
01:32Those big bodies have all fallen in love with the game, and they just enjoy it, and they end up being pretty good because of it.
01:38The physical development, developing their bodies, we weigh our linemen in every week of the season and the offseason.
01:48So they get weighed in 52 weeks, and we are constantly monitoring the weight.
01:54We're constantly monitoring the calorie intake, and there's a pathway laid out for them as ninth graders.
02:00This is what you are to weigh when you are a sophomore.
02:04This is what you are to weigh when you are a junior.
02:06This is what you are to weigh when you're a senior, and it's obviously all different depending on their stature and their genetics and everything else.
02:13And then there's also standards for the weight room.
02:16This is what you are to lift in the power lifts as a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior.
02:22So it is laid out for them, yes.
02:24I think one of the biggest compliments you can get, and I actually talked to Coach Caputo about it this morning,
02:29when an opposing coach calls you after the game and says, oh my goodness, Coach, you guys were really physical.
02:35To me, that's the ultimate compliment you can get.
02:37The score is the score, wins and losses, but when an opposing coach says that your team was the most physical team they've played all year,
02:45I think that's really cool.
02:46When an offensive line's strongest position on the field, it's pretty cool.
02:51We're a great group, man.
02:53Being an offensive line, it's hard.
02:54You've got to get fashion helmets every play.
02:57You know, offensive line, you don't always get your praise.
03:00You don't always get your shine.
03:01It's always the guys catching the touchdowns.
03:03Nobody really looks at the offensive line, but it's a big part, big part in the operation here.
03:08Basically, we just run pulls and down blocks, so it's mainly that.
03:13We just do pull drills, down block drills, smash block drills, and it just translates very well to the plays we run over there.
03:20But really, for being kind of new to the position, my coaches have been really well and teaching me out.
03:28It's hard, man.
03:28Our coaches, they work us real hard, but that's why we are who we are.
03:33We're a great group.
03:33We're tight.
03:34Our coaches, we love practice.
03:36We love each other.
03:38It's awesome, man.
03:39It's awesome.
03:39They walk around the high school with their shirts that say hogs on them.
03:44You know, they have the picture of the razorback or the hog, and they get to create their hog shirt each year.
03:50And we take a lot of pride in being a part of that career.
03:54You're getting hit.
03:54You're smashing helmets with your opponents.
03:56You've got to work together, all five of us up front.
03:59We're all very tight.
04:00We're always hanging out outside of practice.
04:01We're a great group.
04:03We're very tight, you know.
04:04All these guys grew up with all of them.
04:07One of them is my neighbor.
04:08He's like one of my best friends, you know.
04:09Great group.
04:10We've got to work together, though.
04:11The offensive line will always lead the way here.
04:13Once again, we are going to run the ball.
04:18We do have a very good passing game because we have a pretty good quarterback.
04:22But once again, our offensive line will dictate the toughness of this team, this blue-collar mentality.
04:29So, yes, the offensive line will lead the way.
04:31Look out for us, man, you know.
04:33Nobody's expecting a big season out of us, but I think we can get it.
