00:00Aaron, you had made the comment before the postseason started
00:03that you thought this was the most talented roster you had ever had here as the manager.
00:07Ultimately, why do you think you guys weren't able to get it done this season?
00:10Yeah, the ending's the worst, right?
00:17Especially when you know you have a really good group
00:19and a group of guys that really came together so well at the right time.
00:26The final couple months, this was a team.
00:30And it's a team that played for one another, did a lot of really good things,
00:35and we got beat here.
00:37Credit to the Blue Jays and the year they've had,
00:42and they beat us in the series, sickle as that.
00:47It doesn't make it any easier.
00:53It's a beat-up room in there.
00:57They're still sharing with one another.
01:00I felt like I should come out and owe you guys this,
01:04but know that the guys are in there still sharing with one another
01:09because they truly became a really close, close team
01:13and a really good team.
01:19It's the awful part of this is the journey you go on.
01:24This has been a tough year for me personally,
01:27you know, but all you go through to kind of become this kind of team you think
01:35could really do something special and for it to abruptly end is always difficult.
01:40You know, and you just, you know, it's a beautiful game that so many of us and you guys here,
01:53you know, certainly within our organization,
01:58every organization, you pour so much into the, to go on this long journey,
02:02to have a chance to chase a, chase a dream and win a championship.
02:06And when it, when it ends this way, it's, it's always, you know, it's terrible.
02:12It's, it's, it hurts.
02:17But I know for me personally, I know for a lot of those guys,
02:20it also continues to ignite your fire to want to get back and play in these meaningful games
02:26and, and have a chance at, at glory.
02:29So, um, thank you guys that cover us all the time and are here.
02:34And, and again, I want to congratulate the Blue Jays and their organization.
02:38They, they have, they've had a terrific team, terrific year and a build a, build an outstanding team.
02:43And, and, uh, you know, credit to John and, and those guys, they've, you know,
02:49they, they took it to us this series.
02:51Harry, you look at tonight in particular,
02:53the offense did have quite a few opportunities to, to get that they'd hit.
02:56What was their staff doing that just did not allow you guys to come through in those situations?
03:01Yeah. I mean, look, anytime you're a bullpen game, you know,
03:04obviously it doesn't always work, but, but it can be really effective because, you know,
03:10you usually build the lineup to go face another starting pitcher.
03:15They're bringing in people to face your lineup, you know, so you're getting guys and,
03:20and they have obviously a number of talented guys that, you know, pitched effectively and,
03:25uh, you know, we're able to, you know, hold us down enough.
03:29And, and when we did have some opportunities, we're able to thwart it enough.
03:33And, and, uh, so just obviously not our night.
03:39Good. Brennan on your right.
03:42Uh, what was your view on the jazz ball?
03:45Uh, ball, we, I kicked it off with stuff.
03:47Yeah. Yeah. Just, uh, you know, ball hit sharply. Um, but you know,
03:52one, one, he's going to turn all the time.
03:55And, uh, just coming off last night, the, the emotion from Grimmie yesterday.
03:58And did you feel some kind of carry over with this team?
04:00Do you think that it might've been, um, Ghana coming out a little bit flat
04:05instead of how, how heavy picks were?
04:07No, I, I, I felt kind of the opposite.
04:10So, uh, but, you know, you, you don't play, you know, you don't win games on emotion all the time.
04:19It's, it's about, you know, execution and, and, you know, they were, they were better than us tonight and in this series.
04:27A few folks down to Joel.
04:30Aaron, two things I've caused, but you described this as an awful year for me.
04:34Why?
04:36Did I say awful year for me?
04:38Cuff year.
04:38Yeah, just a hard year.
04:41I mean, there was just some tough moments and, um, you know, but, but also like in a lot of ways, very rewarding to go, go through some of the, some of the moments we went through, you know, in the middle of the season, especially, um, you know, to see this kind of team come together in a really special way.
05:04I mean, this, this, that is a tight knit and, and, and, and I feel like we got so much better in the final couple months of the season.
05:12So, so it was more, a very tough year on me.
05:15That's all.
05:17And it's not about me, but, uh, that's all I was saying.
05:21And, but also very rewarding to go through it and see what these guys became.
05:26And really, you, you, you, you have had to kind of give a version of this press conference a lot during your time here.
05:32Does it, does your belief system that things will change, take a dent at all, and that, that you guys will eventually break through this?
05:40Oh, no, I'm confident we'll break through.
05:43I have been every year.
05:45Uh, and I believe in so many of the people in that room.
05:49So, uh, that hasn't changed.
05:52Um, the fire hasn't changed.
05:55Um, it's hard to win the world series, you know, so, um, been chasing it all my life.
06:04Super rotor left, Aaron, run.
06:05What do you say to Aaron after a year like this, where he has one of the great offensive seasons in baseball history, is always optimistic the team will get there, yet in the end just keeps coming up as a team without vital.
06:21But sports doesn't mean it's not going to happen, and, and he and I wholeheartedly believe that it will.
06:28So, you know, again, you keep working your tail off to get back to this position and, and punch through it.
06:36And do you find that at some level, art to believe, with 10 years of the type of numbers he's putting out, that the braces hasn't happened?
06:45I don't know.
06:46Again, uh, I don't take anything for granted in this game.
06:49And being in it my whole life, I know how hard it is to, to win in the end.
06:54And, um, you know, so, I have too much respect for the, for the sport and the competition of it.
07:04Um, you know, for that.
07:08The Chris ran pretty well.
07:11Trent and Cody were obviously huge.
07:13Say it again.
07:14Trent and Cody were obviously huge for you.
07:16Well, you're obviously free agents now.
07:19I don't understand the season was done, but what is your hope with what happens with them and organization in all this?
07:24Yeah.
07:25I mean, yeah, I don't, I mean, that's, that's for another day.
07:29The, the thing I'll say about them is, you know, they're a big reason why, you know, I was so excited about this club down the stretch.
07:40And, and, and, and at this point, and just really proud of who those guys were, uh, and are, and who, what they became as players, as driving forces for our team.
07:53But in those two cases, the two people, those guys are in the room every single day and, and what they brought to the table as teammates every single day.
08:04You know, I appreciate that.
08:06And I, uh, grateful to, uh, to get to manage those two guys and, you know, who knows, hopefully, and, you know, hopefully in both cases, I get to keep going.
08:18So, you're right, Peter.
08:20What did you think of Schlitter tonight?
08:23And maybe more big picture, just how did this postseason run?
08:25How can that be foundational, I guess, going into next year with him?
08:29Yeah, I thought Schlitt was good tonight.
08:30Um, you know, didn't have the dominant swing and miss stuff, but I thought pitched really effectively, um, was filling up the strike zone.
08:40Um, I thought made a lot of key pitches when he needed to, um, mixed well, you know, gives up a run in the first inning, but doesn't flinch.
08:49And I thought was really efficient with, with obviously a good offensive club.
08:53So I, I thought he, I thought he threw the ball really well tonight.
08:56Like, you know, not the dominant one that he came off of, but he gave us a really good chance to win a baseball game.
09:02And then, uh, as far as foundationally, like, obviously, I think we all understand how excited we are about Cam and, and his future and, you know, what he could become in our rotation moving forward.
09:15So, um, you know, he, he had a phenomenal season and, um, and, and finished strong tonight.
09:23And, uh, Frobohach, Peter, Julian.
09:27Aaron, just defensively, what do you think sort of clicked you guys this year?
09:33Well, I, I mean, I, I mean, I think that's part of what I've been talking about the last couple of months.
09:39Like, I think we're at this point, a really good defensive team.
09:42Um, it became that when we had to go through some tough moments in the middle of the season, you know, in, you know, what came out of it and became a really good and well-rounded club.
09:56Um, you know, that's why, that's why this hurts in the end.
10:00Steininger, you're right, Ian.
10:02Aaron, you saw last year firsthand what it took to win the World Series because you were in it.
10:07How much is what you're feeling now connected to the fact that you didn't get a chance to get back and apply those lessons in the World Series?
10:16Yeah.
10:16I mean, maybe, um, maybe in some way that's part of it.
10:20Um, another part of it, again, is what I feel about this group and, uh, you know, where we're at as a club and just, you know, what I believe was a realistic job to get back there and win this thing.
10:35Um, again, as much as any team I felt like that I've had to this point, you know, I felt like, you know, this was a group that could make a real run at it, especially being, you know, as healthy as we were at this time of the year.
10:51Fourth, we're on your left there.
10:53Aaron, what did you feel was the biggest difference as to why the Blue Jays were able to win this series?
10:57Look, look, obviously they were able in the first few games, um, you know, to get to our starters and, and put up a lot of runs against, against us.
11:08You know, we, we didn't hold them down well enough in the first few games, you know, canned those out and throws really well tonight.
11:14And then, um, you know, they were able to, to add a couple across there late, but we didn't, you know, we didn't control them offensively enough, um, you know, to win big in the series.
11:28A couple last ones for you, Jay, get your mic.
11:37Aaron, what did you see on the, uh, Chisholm error play from your vantage point?
11:41Yeah, he missed, just missed, it just kicked off, sharply hit ball, but a, but a one hopper, one, he's going to turn all the time and just look like it skipped off his glove.
11:53Other questions?
11:54Yeah, Kate?
11:56You mentioned, you said earlier, it's sports.
12:00I, I imagine that's in some ways polluting to the randomness of it and, and the way that the postseason is, is a roulette wheel.
12:06How do you kind of wrangle with that, that it is such a small sample when you're, whether or not the best team always wins, you're, you're presented with a very small amount of games in order to win.
12:21That's, that's, that's part of the beauty of it.
12:24That's, I mean, that's the competition of it.
12:26That's the high stakes nature of it.
12:29And that's why playoff baseball is, is awesome.
12:33You know, I mean, you know, you watch even these other games that you're kind of watching and paying attention to, like the, the, the importance and the intensity of every single pitch is just, it's awesome.
12:48And, and it's what, you know, I think a lot of us sign up for and play for.
12:53And so that's just part of it.
12:55Like, you know, doesn't mean it's always kind.
13:01Good show.
13:02Some lights.
13:12You're not, I'm, I'm sorry on it, but it becomes a subject that we've heard.
13:16Do you have any reason to think you won't be bad managing the team used?
