00:00The Yankees did not have a good weekend north of the border. They lost both games to start their American League Division Series with the Blue Jays in game two. They fell to Toronto 13-7. They're now one game away from elimination as they are down 2-0 in the best of five series. Let's talk some Yankee baseball. We're going to do it with the founder of Uptown Sports, also contributor to Latino sports. It's my guy, Hector Beauchamp, joining me now. Hector, how are you doing? I hope you are well, other than the Yankees being down 2-0 in this series.
00:30I'm trying to stay positive like always, Dex. But, you know, being down 2-0 against your division rivals and the ALDS, it's not where you want to be. But, hey, anything can happen.
00:39It's not good. Now, Max Freed did not have a good day against the Blue Jays in game two. He struggled. Why did Freed struggle to navigate the Jays lineup? And how concerning is it that Toronto lit up the guy who's supposed to be the Yankees' ace here?
00:52And another question I have for you, Hector, is, is there truth to the narrative surrounding Freed underperforming in October?
01:00It kind of seems that there's some truth to that narrative, right? All season, Max Freed has been the stopper for the New York Yankees. And after game one's loss, you were expecting Max Freed to come out tonight and do that today.
01:11On the season, after the Yankees' loss, Max Freed is 11-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 16 starts after the Yankees' loss. And that's what you're expecting today. It didn't happen. Toronto hit them.
01:23And when you look at this Blue Jays' offense, one of the best offenses in baseball when it comes to putting balls in play. And that's what they did today. And it showed when the Yankees took them out being down 5-0.
01:33This game, they did do some things offensively. I think when people look at the score, 13-7, they put up seven runs. But they struggled to hit Tradia Savage, who set the Blue Jays' postseason record with 11 strikeouts in this one.
01:46Can you take anything at all from the runs that the Bronx Bombers put up late in this game and the offensive outbursts we finally saw from them late in this contest?
01:53I hope that you can take some positive away for it. Hopefully that it gives you some momentum coming back into Game 3 in the Bronx.
02:03But one thing to know, Anthony Martino pointed out on Twitter, when the Yankees are facing a pitcher that they haven't seen all season, they use their pitching machine, their TARJAC machine, which uses AI technology to mimic a pitcher's stuff and their mechanics.
02:16When the Yankees won against the Red Sox and immediately jumped on the plane to come to Toronto, they weren't able to do that.
02:22Granted, I'm not trying to use that as an excuse. But when the preparation is not there, you're going to see what happened.
02:27And credit to that young pitcher for the Blue Jays who showed out. He did exactly what Cam Slytler did in his last start against the Red Sox.
02:34And if you're a Blue Jays fan, you're super excited and positive going into Game 3.
02:38Yeah, you got to be excited if you're a Jays fan. You're up 2-0, headed back to the stadium.
02:41And pitching for the Yankees at the stadium is going to be Carlos Rodon.
02:45What's the confidence level for you in Carlos Rodon starting Game 3?
02:49And how does Rodon match up against this Jays lineup that is righty-heavy?
02:54Carlos Rodon mentioned it in the post-game press conference that he knows how tough the Blue Jays lineup is.
02:59And for his career, Carlos Rodon is 2-3 with a 4.72 ERA in nine appearances against the Blue Jays.
03:07That's not good numbers, but anything can happen.
03:09Just like I said, the Yankees, after dropping the first two games of a playoff series since 2001, they are 2-2 in those series.
03:16Normally, when a team wins the first two of a three-game or four-game set, they go on to win that 80% of the time.
03:23Hopefully, Carlos Rodon can find that magic and can pitch phenomenal for the Yankees.
03:26Because the Yankees did have to dip into their bullpen today.
03:29But we're going to need Carlos Rodon to match the Blue Jays in Game 3.
03:33And facing Shane Bieber, I know we're going to get into that.
03:36But I look forward to Carlos Rodon having a great start in the Bronx.
03:39All right.
03:39So you think Carlos Rodon can have it in the Boogie Down Bronx on Tuesday?
03:43But the thing is going to be the Yankees lineup, right?
03:46They're going to face Shane Bieber in Game 3.
03:49How important is it that they jump on him early in Game 3 at the stadium?
03:53Listen, a lot has been made about Aaron Judge and his struggles in the postseason.
03:59Derek Jeter said it earlier during the postgame show that they had with Fox that when you look at Aaron Judge and when you look at this Yankees lineup, right?
04:08Aaron Judge is not the only person that's in this lineup that needs to step up.
04:12Everybody else does.
04:13Trent Grisham, Ben Rice, John Carlos Stanton.
04:16I know Anthony Volpe has gotten a hit in every one of the postseason games that he has played.
04:19But if you're just relying solely on Aaron Judge to get you to the World Series, you're not going to go that far.
04:25Now, when it comes to Aaron Judge striking out with the bases loaded, that's going to happen.
04:30It's called baseball.
04:31But it's what do you do in the follow-up game?
04:34And today's follow-up game, I know he got a couple of singles.
04:36I know he got on base.
04:37But it wasn't that much of an impact that we were looking for from Aaron Judge.
04:41Yeah, that impact still waiting to be seen from Yankee fans.
04:45We'll see what the Yankees can do.
04:46They're down 2-0 in this series, Game 3 going down on Tuesday night at the stadium.
04:51We'll see if the Yankees can get back into the series.
04:54Not over yet.
04:55They got to take it with that mantra, Hector, one game at a time.
04:58That is Hector Beauchamp, the founder of Uptown Sports, also a contributor reporter for Latino Sports.
05:03Check him out there.
05:05Hector, always a pleasure talking to me, Yankees baseball with you.
05:07Thank you, my friend.
05:08Dex, always a pleasure talking to you.
05:10Hopefully, the next time we talk, there's some positive vibes that the Yankees go on to the next round,
05:14and it's not an elimination.
05:15You're asking for three straight.
05:16We'll see if they can do it.
05:17Got to take it one game at a time.
05:19Thank you, sir.
