Asean nations should strengthen cooperation in tackling cross-border crime, as the increasingly complex security-related issues have deeply affected societies and people in the region, said Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in his opening remarks at the 30th Asean Political-Security Community Council Meeting on Saturday (Oct 25).

00:00Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan told participants at the 30th Arsyan Political Security Community Council meeting on Saturday that Arsyan nations should strengthen cooperation in tackling cross-border crime, as the increasingly complex security-related issues have deeply affected societies and people in the region.
00:24Mohamad said strengthening mechanism of cooperation across defense, law enforcement and legal institutions will be critical to safeguarding regional peace and stability.
00:54He said law ministers in the region are committed in promoting arbitration.
00:59This reminds us of the need to strengthen cooperation, coordination and regional efforts to counter the transnational crime.

01:30He said the long-awaited Arsyan Extradition Treaty is at its final stage of completion and it is expected to be signed next month.
01:39Leaders from the ten Arsyan member states as well as the newly joined Timor-Leste are in Kuala Lumpur for the 47th Arsyan Summit and its related summits.
01:50The three-day summit will begin on Sunday, also bringing together leaders from dialogue partners of the regional grouping, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, South Korea and China.
02:05The summit will see the leaders finding ways to defuse tensions in the South China Sea, address the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar and strengthen economic integration amid global trade uncertainties.
