Asean continues to stand firm and deliver results despite global uncertainties and escalating rivalries among major powers, said Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in his opening remarks at the Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting in conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 25.
Mohamad stressed that upholding the “Asean Way” of working together for peace and the prosperity of the region is crucial.
01:40The regional comprehensive economic partnership, RCEP, and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement, DEFAR,
01:49continue to deepen integration, strengthen supply chains, and attract global investment.
01:57At the same time, we continue to diversify our partnerships, expanding ties with India, Australia, European Union, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC.
02:09All over the world, our collective strength is gaining recognition,
02:15because the nations of ASEAN stand together and move as one.
02:20My dear colleagues, upholding our commitment to ASEAN way is crucial as we navigate the tides of change.
02:30The border conflicts between our neighbors this year has understandably opened some anxiety within the ASEAN community.
02:39It reminds us the fragility of peace.
02:42Fortunately, thanks to Tyler's meditation efforts, tensions have since de-escalated.
02:52We commend both countries for choosing the path of diplomacy and dialogue to resolve their differences.
03:00Whatever uncertainties lie ahead, we will face them the ASEAN way.
03:06Our diversity will continue to be our greatest source of strength.
03:11In that spirit, I extend my best wishes to our colleague, Her Excellency, Maa Teresa Lazarou, and the Philippines,
03:21as they assume the ASEAN Championship next year.
03:26Best of luck to you, Lazarou.
03:30Malaysia will continue to lend its support in strengthening our ASEAN community.
03:35It is our commitment to a brighter future for the children of Southeast Asia.
