00:00so we're here in Whitchurch and a rather lovely business what's it called?
00:18Walter's House of Coffee, Cocktails and Champaids
00:21and you gents are the men behind it, who have we got here then lads?
00:24So I'm Josh and this is my husband's house
00:27How long have you had the business here?
00:29About 3 months now
00:303 months?
00:31We opened on the 4th of July
00:33Wow, American Independence Day
00:363 months, it doesn't feel like a business that's 3 months old
00:40it feels like it's been here forever
00:42Yeah, that was kind of our intention
00:44we wanted to be a business that would settle in
00:46and felt like it had been in the community for a long time
00:49So what's your background, what were you up to before this then?
00:53So my husband Josh was a manager at Costa Coffee
00:56and I was manager at the Salvation Army in Shrewsbury
00:59I was going to take the service that place
01:01Cool, you get your coffees then
01:03so hence he didn't need any training on the coffee machine
01:06he knew what he was doing
01:07No training on the coffee machine, he died straight on it
01:09So for people who haven't been here, obviously they'll see the images
01:12but talk us through the ethos of your business
01:15it's very very chic isn't it?
01:17but without being pretentious
01:18It's very chic without being pretentious
01:20we don't offer a pretentious service
01:22it's very much we wanted people to be able to come in
01:25and enjoy a cup of coffee in Sclander
01:27whether you're spending £3 on a cup of coffee
01:31or £100 on champagne
01:33somewhere that everybody can enjoy and be part of
01:35and be part of the community
01:37And there's a piano at the front
01:39it's not just for show
01:40is it your sister Josh that plays the piano?
01:42My sister plays the piano
01:43but we also have a pianist
01:44which comes in most Friday and Saturday
01:47Yeah, yeah
01:48So she comes in to play for us
01:50and we also have other musicians coming in doing like little gigs
01:54Ok, fantastic
01:55Your husband tells me that you can sing a little bit as well
01:59Not very well, no
02:00That's not what he would say
02:02I don't believe a word of it
02:03So what are you opening to the evening as well then?
02:07We're open from 8 in the morning until 10 at night
02:10Monday to Saturday
02:11and we're open from 10 until 9 on a Sunday
02:15So that's where daytime is more people coming in for a coffee
02:18and then the champagnes and that tends to come in a bit more
02:21Sometimes they come in for a champagne of a lunch time
02:23Yeah, yeah
02:24There's no definitive time as we start serving alcohol from 11am
02:27Yeah
02:28And what sort of food do you offer people then?
02:30At the moment very small menu base
02:32So we've got a whole selection of cakes
02:34We do toast, bagels, smoked salmon, cream cheese, bagels, topped with caviar
02:40Yeah
02:41So we do a bit of a selection
02:42We're hoping to increase our menu offering over the next few months
02:45Your cakes look the part, they look gorgeous
02:48Oh yeah, thank you so much
02:49Yeah, yeah
02:50So if people want to find out a little bit more
02:53How can, and what's going on
02:55Like if you've got events on
02:56We have an Instagram account
02:57We also have our Facebook accounts to put the size events on
03:01But most of our events sell out before we even get a chance to post them so
03:05Yeah, yeah
03:06I'm curious, if you're open from that time in the morning to that time in the evening
03:10When do you get downtime?
03:12We don't very often get downtime
03:15Yeah
03:16This feels to us very much like our own home
03:18And we're welcoming people into our own home
03:20Yeah
03:21Giving them the drinks, the service, the chit chat
03:24Everybody who comes in here is like grand
03:27Well it looks gorgeous guys
03:29And you know, if today's clientele, packing it, are anything to go by
03:33Everyone's loving it
03:34So well done to the pair of you
03:36Thank you so much
03:37Tell us a story about this lovely painting of you and your husband
03:40So this painting, a couple of days ago
03:42Was left on our doorstep wrap-truck and bubble wrap
03:46It's got no signature
03:48And we believe a local artist has done it of us
03:51Wow
03:52But it's still a mystery and nobody's come forward with who's painted it
03:55That's going to bug you, if you still don't know in six months who's done that
03:59It's a lovely thing even though we don't know who it is
04:02Yeah, it is good
04:03It was a wonderful honour to be able to be somebody's inspiration for a painting
