00:00
so we're here in Whitchurch and a rather lovely business what's it called?
00:18
Walter's House of Coffee, Cocktails and Champaids
00:21
and you gents are the men behind it, who have we got here then lads?
00:24
So I'm Josh and this is my husband's house
00:27
How long have you had the business here?
00:29
About 3 months now
00:30
3 months?
00:31
We opened on the 4th of July
00:33
Wow, American Independence Day
00:36
3 months, it doesn't feel like a business that's 3 months old
00:40
it feels like it's been here forever
00:42
Yeah, that was kind of our intention
00:44
we wanted to be a business that would settle in
00:46
and felt like it had been in the community for a long time
00:49
So what's your background, what were you up to before this then?
00:53
So my husband Josh was a manager at Costa Coffee
00:56
and I was manager at the Salvation Army in Shrewsbury
00:59
I was going to take the service that place
01:01
Cool, you get your coffees then
01:03
so hence he didn't need any training on the coffee machine
01:06
he knew what he was doing
01:07
No training on the coffee machine, he died straight on it
01:09
So for people who haven't been here, obviously they'll see the images
01:12
but talk us through the ethos of your business
01:15
it's very very chic isn't it?
01:17
but without being pretentious
01:18
It's very chic without being pretentious
01:20
we don't offer a pretentious service
01:22
it's very much we wanted people to be able to come in
01:25
and enjoy a cup of coffee in Sclander
01:27
whether you're spending £3 on a cup of coffee
01:31
or £100 on champagne
01:33
somewhere that everybody can enjoy and be part of
01:35
and be part of the community
01:37
And there's a piano at the front
01:39
it's not just for show
01:40
is it your sister Josh that plays the piano?
01:42
My sister plays the piano
01:43
but we also have a pianist
01:44
which comes in most Friday and Saturday
01:47
Yeah, yeah
01:48
So she comes in to play for us
01:50
and we also have other musicians coming in doing like little gigs
01:54
Ok, fantastic
01:55
Your husband tells me that you can sing a little bit as well
01:59
Not very well, no
02:00
That's not what he would say
02:02
I don't believe a word of it
02:03
So what are you opening to the evening as well then?
02:07
We're open from 8 in the morning until 10 at night
02:10
Monday to Saturday
02:11
and we're open from 10 until 9 on a Sunday
02:15
So that's where daytime is more people coming in for a coffee
02:18
and then the champagnes and that tends to come in a bit more
02:21
Sometimes they come in for a champagne of a lunch time
02:23
Yeah, yeah
02:24
There's no definitive time as we start serving alcohol from 11am
02:27
Yeah
02:28
And what sort of food do you offer people then?
02:30
At the moment very small menu base
02:32
So we've got a whole selection of cakes
02:34
We do toast, bagels, smoked salmon, cream cheese, bagels, topped with caviar
02:40
Yeah
02:41
So we do a bit of a selection
02:42
We're hoping to increase our menu offering over the next few months
02:45
Your cakes look the part, they look gorgeous
02:48
Oh yeah, thank you so much
02:49
Yeah, yeah
02:50
So if people want to find out a little bit more
02:53
How can, and what's going on
02:55
Like if you've got events on
02:56
We have an Instagram account
02:57
We also have our Facebook accounts to put the size events on
03:01
But most of our events sell out before we even get a chance to post them so
03:05
Yeah, yeah
03:06
I'm curious, if you're open from that time in the morning to that time in the evening
03:10
When do you get downtime?
03:12
We don't very often get downtime
03:15
Yeah
03:16
This feels to us very much like our own home
03:18
And we're welcoming people into our own home
03:20
Yeah
03:21
Giving them the drinks, the service, the chit chat
03:24
Everybody who comes in here is like grand
03:27
Well it looks gorgeous guys
03:29
And you know, if today's clientele, packing it, are anything to go by
03:33
Everyone's loving it
03:34
So well done to the pair of you
03:36
Thank you so much
03:37
Tell us a story about this lovely painting of you and your husband
03:40
So this painting, a couple of days ago
03:42
Was left on our doorstep wrap-truck and bubble wrap
03:46
It's got no signature
03:48
And we believe a local artist has done it of us
03:51
Wow
03:52
But it's still a mystery and nobody's come forward with who's painted it
03:55
That's going to bug you, if you still don't know in six months who's done that
03:59
It's a lovely thing even though we don't know who it is
04:02
Yeah, it is good
04:03
It was a wonderful honour to be able to be somebody's inspiration for a painting
