00:00So we're in Bass Church near Shrewsbury and we're at the New Inn and we're with
00:03landlord, landlady. Introduce yourselves. I'm Dawn. And I'm Darren. And how long have you been here at the pub?
00:10Three years. Three years in October. Yeah and what was your background then? What were you up to before you were here?
00:16Always pubs. Been in pubs for a very long time. Yeah, yeah. Around the Shropshire area?
00:21Shropshire, Manchester, Liverpool. Oh right, well travelled. So it's a, I don't think I've come across this pub before.
00:29It's a lovely looking pub from the outside and very cosy inside. Just talk us through.
00:33It's a proper country kind of pub isn't it? Is that how we describe it?
00:37Yeah, we call it the hub of the village. It's where everybody comes to meet.
00:43We're very, very fortunate that we're well supported. We have things going on.
00:48We have quizzes once a month and music occasionally. Yeah.
00:54We get a lot from the church. We've got a lot of good regulars in the mass church.
00:58Yeah. Supporters.
01:00I mean, so there's about 3,000 people in the village, isn't there?
01:04And it seems like you've got quite a lot of facilities here really, for a 3,000.
01:08You know, there's quite a few different Indian restaurants, Chinese restaurants, I understand.
01:13Yeah, they've got pubs. We've got doctors, good bus room. Not part from Shrewsbury really.
01:18Yeah. Part of service. Yeah, yeah.
01:20We get lots of support. We get footballers. We've got two football, local football groups that come in.
01:28The young, we get the girls teams in on Saturdays, don't we?
01:35Oh yeah, the local football team. Yeah. Yeah.
01:38We have charity dues. Yeah.
01:40Where we've raised quite a bit of money for different, for local schools and charities.
01:47Cool. And you do food as well, yeah? Yeah.
01:50Yeah. Yeah.
01:51We do a lot of food. Yeah.
01:53Primarily known for great quality of food. Yeah, yeah.
01:57Very lucky we've got three fantastic chefs in the kitchen.
02:01So what sort of dishes are people raving about then and coming back for?
02:06We do a beef wellington. Yeah.
02:08People come back for time and time again. Yeah.
02:11And we do lots of fish dishes. Okay.
02:13Which fly out. Whatever Jake, our head chef, puts on, he tends to fly out, doesn't he?
02:19Yeah. Yeah.
02:20The specials are very special.
02:23And you've got a good selection of ales. What's going down well? I mean, butty back's always a firm fixture, isn't it?
02:30A firm favourite. Yeah, that's a big seller.
02:32Yeah, yeah. Is that the most popular one you would say?
02:35Yeah, I'd say the most popular. And then you go to the Shropshire Gold. Yeah.
02:41Which is a good session. Beer. And a good old favourite, three tons.
02:47Yeah, won a lot of awards, hasn't it? The three tons.
02:50Yeah, a good old three tons. So, yeah.
02:53And then a bit of rhubarb cider to chuck in a bit of a summer mix.
02:56A summer mix. That's for the summer.
02:58Yeah, yeah. And I can vouch for that. It's a nice drink as well, actually.
03:02Cool. Well, thank you for inviting us to your pub.
03:05We'll let our viewers have a little look around and we wish you continued success in business.
