00:06Your character is very mysterious in a way.
00:10How would you describe him in a few words? Who is Freddy?
00:14Freddy is the loneliest man on the planet.
00:20I'm going to cry.
00:24Because it's true.
00:27Yeah, that was the window into the character.
00:29And, you know, what do we do in moments of loneliness?
00:32We think about, like, not always making the best choices.
00:36That's what we find Freddy doing.
00:38He doesn't make the right choices as a result of having been so isolated throughout his life.
00:45What was the biggest challenge for you as an actor to portray him?
00:51I think the biggest challenge for me was the sort of physical transformation I decided to try to go through for the role.
00:57When I got the role, I looked like I do now.
01:01And I was like, I don't think Freddy is in a healthy place.
01:04I don't think he looks healthy.
01:05I think he looks like he's about to disappear before your eyes.
01:11Like, he looks like death.
01:13I think that's what they say.
01:15When you stand close to him, you feel like you could get cancer.
01:19Like, and so for me, that challenge was to try to either go one extreme of trying to gain as much weight and become obese and, like, just gluttonous.
01:30Or to try to strip down and try to disappear.
01:34And so that's what I decided to use.
01:36And did you participate to the construction of the character or was everything on page?
01:45The dialogue was everything was on the page.
01:47That was all the mastermind of Dennis Lehane.
01:54The appearance was more collaborative.
01:59We all sort of threw our two cents in and came up with the look of Freddy.
