00:00The Education Ministry on Wednesday said it will implement 11 additional measures to enhance

00:07safety and address discipline across its institutions.

00:11The Ministry said 5 million ringgit had been approved to install CCTV cameras in selected

00:17schools nationwide, which will be in addition to the earlier 3 million ringgit allocation

00:22for CCTV installations.

00:25They said 10,096 new teachers will be deployed nationwide beginning next month.

00:31These will include more than 500 guidance and counselling teachers to strengthen psychosocial

00:35support for students.

00:37They said 600 full-time Hostel Assistant Wardens will be appointed from MyStep personnel to improve

00:43monitoring at such premises and ease existing warden's workload.

00:48The role of school liaison officers will be enhanced and the police will be tasked to

00:53monitor all educational institutions.

00:56The work of the SMART support team will also be enhanced to provide psychosocial assistance

01:01during crises.

01:02For discipline, the Ministry said existing rules allow caning, suspension and expulsion

01:08where appropriate, and principals and headmasters may delegate authority to teachers to discipline

01:14students.

01:15They said the student personality development system will be reviewed and improved, with

01:19institutions urged to prioritize responses to emerging discipline cases.

01:24The Ministry also said the child protection policy will be finalized soon, while mental health

01:30screening will be conducted on students from Year 1 to Form 6.
