For Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, this fight didn’t start yesterday - it began in 2021 with the #MakeSchoolASaferPlace movement.

Four years later, the crisis they warned about has exploded into reality. Within just two weeks in October, Malaysia witnessed a string of disturbing cases: rape, violence, bullying, stabbings and even killings involving school students.

The Safe School Secretariat, a coalition of eight youth organisations, is now taking a decisive step: submitting a memorandum to the Ministry of Education with 10 concrete solutions to address the school safety crisis once and for all.

00:00rape joke will lead to actual violence normalization of violence and making fun of
00:05violence will lead to actual violence and now we see it happening to the
00:10current students that are in school actually from the Secretariat Sekolah
00:15Selamat or the Safe School Secretariat and basically we're actually a
00:19coalition of eight different youth organizations who believe in safer
00:23schools and the need of addressing of the current safety school crisis and I
00:30think that like me personally I was you know with hashtag me school safe place
00:34that happened in 2021 right so now up until today that's been four years in
00:39calling and in working of trying to make this idea of schools being a safer place
00:44and but basically when we saw this continuous pattern I think in within of
00:51two weeks we saw like five cases happening day by day of rape violence
00:58stabbing killing bullying and so I think it called me and my friends together that
01:04we actually needed to take a drastic action to make sure that this that the
01:10safety school crisis is actually being resolved and addressed by the Ministry of
01:14Education and I think that you know we tried like digital campaigns we tried
01:20raising awareness and I mean firstly within the Secretariat of the school
01:25safety I founded a organization Pucket of Pink and what we do is that we
01:30basically bring comprehensive sex education to schools in Klang Valley as
01:35well as marginalized communities all across Malaysia so you know for me
01:39personally it was that I tried you know using activism I tried spreading
01:44awareness by using my voice to spread for trying to call and make
01:50school safer and asking for these policy reforms by the then Minister of
01:54Education during that time which was Razi Jidin and coming four years we've
01:58changed government and now we see that all of the things that you know we
02:02basically talked about before coming to fruition I feel because we said that you
02:07know rape joke will lead to actual violence normalization of violence and making fun of
02:13violence will lead to actual violence and now we see it happening to the current
02:18students that are in school so we thought that okay we cannot wait we need to send
02:23memorandum and they've been asking then okay so if you've been talking about
02:26this like what's your solution and we've drafted 10 solutions
